I agree with you on the "strong woman" bullshit character, I think I would've been way more endearing if they tried to portray Legasov's colleagues and split her work (E.G. knowing about the water tanks, calculating the impact of that thermal explosion and interviewing the technicians)
In terms of the soundtrack and acting I just have to disagree with you I found them both to be effective and I'm glad none of the actors tried doing an accent they wouldn't be able to pull off to the same effect. And I'm glad the focus was on more subtle reactions rather than some of the over the top bullshit you find in most series that only pushes you out of what's happening.
They didn't get "nearly every fact wrong" and if you seriously think they did you should do some reading.

It's written with good intentions but severely lacking and very amateurish. They are pretty bad at sourcing and not mentioning any names when they provide exact quotes.
There is some inaccurate info and a lot of gaps, they are not mentioning the names of the people who undermined Legasov, such as Efim Slavsky. They doen't mention some of the decisions that Legasov was accused for being wrong were actually Velikhov's (cause they don't understand Russian and these are mentioned in Russian language videos that don't have subtitles or the written sources that can only be found by searching in Russian.)
Legasov even argued against Velikhov about digging under the reactor and installing a heat sink -and lost. He talks about it in the tapes. Other people mention too.
The biggest disinfo: Those tapes were NOT erased by the KGB. Period.That's a wild urban legend or propaganda.This person doesn't provide any sources for it.
Inga Legasova and Vladimir Gubarev both said they are in possession of the whole set of tapes. Gubarev makes it very clear.
When you read the transcript of the tapes it's pretty coherent and doesn't appear to be missing any parts. Besides there is some real dirt he is mentioning there, KGB would have erased THAT STUFF if they were to erase anything.
Also the sources this Tumblr user lists are incomplete, it's obvious they don't speak a word of Russian cause they learned only from subtitled documentaries about Legasov which are in short supply. There is tons of solid info out there if you understand Russian, but this person obviously doesn't cause they are not aware of the much more comprehensive sources.(Shame on you Russians. Why aren't you translating all that stuff? )

The USSR government didn't try to erase Legasov, nuclear scientists lead by Efim Slavsky did -despite Anatoly Petrovich Alexandrov, the most celebrated and respected scientist of the USSR, head of both the Soviet Academy of Sciences and Kurchatov Institute being extremely fond of Legasov and grooming him as his replacement.
Nikolai Ivanovich Ryzhkov, the Prime Minister of the USSR during Gorbachev years is very fond of Legasov and speaks very highly of him (both in his memoirs and every single interview about Chernobyl) he has been pretty consistent in interviews he gave over 2 decades so he's a pretty good source.

Oddly, Dr Guscova wasn't in the hospital scenes with Ludmila, even though they met.

Gorbachev said the final list already went through, they can give him the award next year once the unrest with the science community calms down -unrest stirred by Efim Slavsky followers and the nuclear scientists who never set foot in Chernobyl.
So Gorbachev told Ryzhkov "scientists don't advise giving" along with other ridiculous excuses and said "We'll give him something next year."
That next year never came, for Legasov didn't live to see the next week.
It was Efim Slavsky who gave him the watch and told him he is illiterate and should mind his own business when Legasov criticized the lack of containment structures. Ryzhkov forced Slavsky to retire after Legasov's death. Ryzhkov was pretty fucking powerful but the nuclear science and industry establishment was undermining Legasov and he was not savvy to the intrigue going on there. He had no clue cause it was a different world. When he figured Slavsky was the ringleader, he punished the guy by forcing him to retire in disgrace (Slavsky was pretty much untouchable as one of the two ancient demigods of Soviet science and nuclear enterprise along with Alexandrov.)
So Legasov had influential and powerful friends who were unable to help him.
There are people who talk trash about Legasov but all the trash they talk is easily refuted by multiple solid accounts so they can go eat a bowl of Plutonium.
Anyway I'm translating the stuff I wrote above.

I'm reading an extremely shitty machine translation. It's funny how Legasov tries to describe things as accurately as he can using different synonyms which all get translated into the same word in English.
One of the things he mentions about Shcherbina is that he did his best to understand the problems Legasovs team was trying to solve, like stabilising the temperature inside the core with lead by forcing the thermic energy into getting used up to achieve a phase transition, aka melting the lead. Other officials wanted them to use different cheaper metals like iron (which has a much higher melting point) because getting a lot of lead was difficult. Shcherbina not only immediately got them the lead, he got them even more than they asked for because "it was better to have too much than too little"

well to be fair most of the danger was very much exaggerated. the explosion wasnt even in the megaton range. it was more around 5 kilotons. a meltdown does not work the same way a bomb does. minszk certainely would not heve even nocited. superheated nuclear material hitting water may create some gass expansion, but a full on thermonuclear reaction? no. that requires external preassure to prevent dilution and also weapons grade refined urenium which is not the same stuff they use in powerplants. they use a mixture of isotops.

I find that piece interesting because it makes it feel like Dyatlov was really pushing the reactor to limit that night due to all the shit in his life but failed to account the AZ-5 (as he had no way of knowing). Kind like they did at Lenningard and managed to because there was no killer switch.
Lenningard was even more reckless but because they weren't shutting down the reactor instantly (the purpose was to raise reactor power) they manually inserted the control rods - emergency system had to kick in to prevent the reactor from accelerating because those idiots intentionally operated at OMR of 3.6 rods (in Chernobyl it was 6-8 but they never got the calculations out of the system so it's possible they were unaware the unstability the reactor was building up).

Even Anatoly Alexandrov, who was literally a demigod in the science scene (elected president of the Academy of sciences, godfather of nuclear energy, a living legend) didn't see it coming, he loved Legasov like a son and even he didn't have the power to do something.
