I heard good things about Fleabag. Praise like "most original show since Breaking Bad" and "best thing on TV right now" were floating around the telesphere.
Sat down and watched the first episode a few days ago. I lasted less than 90 seconds before turning it off. Nothing says lazy screenwriting quite like having the main character turn to the camera and monologue. Wannabe edgy dialogue about anal sex (really? Is this the height of subversive edge for some people?) And the overall pathetic thirtysomething Bridget Jones vibe, except with a much more upper class looking character who seems incongruent with 2am booty call culture. "We've all been there," she warbles out. Well, no, honey, actually we haven't. A lot of us still go on real dates.
Does this show get any better? What am I missing here?
She also wrote Killing Eve which is also overhyped and filled with similarly upper-class "I'm just like you really guys!" cringe.

is this copypasta, it sounds like a retarded review from some website
Cooper Kelly
Did the praise come from internet journalists?
Asher Jenkins
It's shit fodder for London liberals
Oliver Williams
My dad likes this series, but as a 30 year old virgin I hardly have much sympathy for her. I enjoyed My Big Fat Diary more than this series about the inner world of women.
Charles Hill
>Nothing says lazy screenwriting quite like having the main character turn to the camera and monologue you're missing the point, the story is concentrated through her perspective for a reason. It doesn't make much sense at the start, but it becomes apparent that the imaginary friend/fourth-wall breaking stuff is a coping mechanism for her after a pretty horrific trauma, think of it as a way of detaching from the real world and indulging in a kind of narcissistic cynicism in order to protect herself from the truth. The same goes for all the promiscuous sex– she's not meant to be an appealing or admirable character
Gavin Perry
>the main character is supposed to be likable, they made you not want to watch her on purpose oh good that makes it watchable then
Cooper Campbell
totally agree OP it was very Poor but as the BEEBs is run by these monsters what can you expect
Carter Sullivan
>triggered snowflake stops watching show after 90 seconds >Does this show get any better? What am I missing here? A brain.
Noah Sanders

For some reason this woman is all over magazines. She wrote Killing Eve, she wrote Fleabag, she's writing for James Bond... all of the back of a 6/10 "muh vagina" comedy drama on BBC1. She is basically your instant diversity hire for female issues. Respect to her, we all have to make a living and she is half cute.
Tyler Martin
A good point. I found myself comparing the main character to Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) in Nightcrawler. Again, this is a character who is everything a human is not supposed to be: creepy, amoral, greedy, manipulative. And yet he's incredibly watchable, partially because he's very determined and manages to find his feet in a world where nobody is helping him out and he gets nothing for free, and partially because he absolutely refuses to play by anyone else's rules and really doesn't give a shit what anyone else does or says or thinks about him.
Jonathan Miller
>writing for James Bond i would be butthurt about this if james bond mattered anymore
Cameron Price
Based and smarterthanmepilled

Yes. Yes it did.
And from the BBC, which just happens to produce the show.
Hunter Watson
>likeable character = good character What a plebshite opinion, stop watching TV to feel validated by imaginary friends
Brandon Taylor

it's kinda like the freedom of being a wild predator, a lot of men at their core have a desire for something like that

Funniest British show since Peep Show
The episode where they go on a feminist retreat was hi-larious
Thomas Peterson
>She is basically your instant diversity hire for female issues it couldn't be that she's actually a talented and widely-respected writer, could it? the second series of Killing Eve totally shit the bed without her on board.
Jaxson Miller
SLUUUUUUTS Hugh Dennis was the most sympathetic and relatable misogynist I've ever seen on tv. The nigga just wanted to give his wife an orgasm
Aiden King
It's great tho, especially interactions with Godmother, family dinner in 2x01 and season 2 overall. Season 1 gets better when focus shifts from sex to family
The show is clearly not a praise to the modern lifestyle, despite any intentions from the writer
Thomas Butler
it could be a bit of both. Is fleabag a masterpiece? Not really, it's about as well written as some pleb shit like Mum or White Van Man, only targeted at a different audience. Is it competently written? Absolutely. Is Killing Eve good? I've never seen it.
But there is one thing to remember: This woman voiced LEET in Solo: a Star Wars story, and I guarantee she wrote some or all of the "character" lines. Let that sink in
Landon Gray
>90 seconds >What am I missing here?
The entire show, idiot.
Christian Gonzalez
>muh star wars have sex
Ryder Flores
I wouldn't call fleabag a masterpiece but its certainly a fresh air. At first glance it was the kind of show that'd put me off (strong, sassy female lead who doesn't care if she's likeable or not), but there's actually some serious psychological depth to the characters, especially in the first series. There's a palpable unspoken undercurrent of grief which colours absolutely everything, even when people are trying to hide it behind humour.
Killing Eve is good too, its almost like the game of cat-and-mouse between eve and villenelle becomes a psychosexual drama about lesbianic courting through violence. It's a fantasy but its certainly a unique one.
>This woman voiced LEET in Solo: a Star Wars story, and I guarantee she wrote some or all of the "character" lines she's spoken about that character publicly and stated that a lot of it is a very tongue-in-cheek jab at herself (or others who need to feel validation by championing causes), she frequently distances herself from the "feminist" label and doesn't like it when people call fleabag a feminist show because there's just so much else going on.
