Michael Hall hated it, most critics and so did I.
Why is Hollywood so utter shit at writing endings to good series like Dexter? What is their fucking problem?
Dexter Finale
Dexter was always shit. What a pussy premise. He's a serial killer who kills serial killers. Cop-out feel good bullshit. Serial killers are literal demons, not some archetype to subvert.
Next time try speaking in English faggot
Give something to a kike and they'll try to subvert it.
I think a lot of writers get bought away and distracted toward the ends of these series. They are riding that wave of success and not worrying about spending time and effort on a "good" finale. Ratings will be the same either way, so they just pursue other projects.
This tbqhwy
they're not wrong
Is that why christianism is good ? Because it’s a subversion of judaism?
Pleb Dexter fan detected. Fuck off faggot.
thanks for saying that
this show is shit. its fans are faggots.
Shows that last more than 5 seasons are bound to have shit endings. They’re simply going on far too long at this point. Only the Shield managed to overcome this, 7 great seasons and it ended up having most satisfying finale ever
The thing with Dexter's finale is that none of the original writers were even on the show anymore, they had already moved on to other shows before that.
If by a "subversion of judaism" you mean "yet anothter kiked religion" then yes.
(no, it's not good user)
No, I don't think there was any problem with the premise of the series itself. He was a modern day superhero of sorts. So yeah it was feel good and the plots were outlandish, but it all worked fine for me, and I have patrician taste.
My problem was they ended it in a very disjointed way -- very incongruous with the rest of the series.
1, 2 and 4 were the only good dexter seasons. Rest is meh
5 and 7 were also well written imo
The answer is simple and obvious. Most shows aren't made to end. They're meant to continue as long as possible for profit's sake. For these shows an ending was never part of the beginning so there's no good way to finish things off.
His English was fine though.
he is
No. It’s hard to write a finale.
well at least they threw in a topless scene with Vince's hapa daughter (in college)
All the perfectly valid criticisms of this show and you pick the gayest one possible.
What were your critiques? Subplots that went no where? Lazy character development. Lazy character motivation?
The weirdest part about this show is the premise is immediately ditched.
He’s supposed to have no emotions but quickly into the season he starts caring about stuff and at the end of it he really cares about finding Deb.
But it kinda works?
I still havent made it to the finale yet. I made it to the second or third episode with the chick that suddenly disappeared after the millennium change and just quit. I realized I really didn't give a shit about any of the characters anymore and all people tell me is that the ending was so unstatisfying its not worth it to keep going.
That said, the only thing I care about is if the sister is dead or not, they made her so retarded by the time I stopped I kinda hope they had Dexter snap and just kill her
That's called character development. You might have heard of it.
They wanted him to actually die, but Showtime was thinking about making some standalone TV movie sequels and demanded that he be kept alive.
America has a huge problem with fetishising violence and revenge. Two wrongs dont make a right, either you agree with killing people or you dont. There is no middle ground where you can arbitrarily condone some peoples opinions for killing but not others. This protagonist should not be idolised.
...
explains a ton
>muh finale
it was shit long, long before then
this
Kind of, except psychopaths don't just suddenly develop that sort of thing
Writing endings is hard, and people get very little experience in it because 99% of a writer's job on a TV series is to keep the series going, not to wrap it up.
Are the books worth reading assuming that I hate reading novels?
I die every time user, it's so funny
With hindsight and no investment in it anymore, it's amazing how hilariously bad S8 is
I used to be angry, every week it would upset me how bizarrely far it had fallen from 7 to 8, but FUCK is it a laugh fest
Keep going user, I'm going to burst
Dexter went wrong the moment they deviated from the book, which is to say by the end of the season 1.
Same thing once happened to Harry Reid according to his story
No, apparently they're bad.
The series and books only really share premise and characters, all the storylines are different and the "dark passenger" is a bit more...concrete and conscious than in the show it's literally the demon Moloch
I wonder what they were thinking when they filmed this.
I know people say this all the time, but usually the problem is in editing, or how the writing clashes in different scenes, so there's always that excuse of "maybe this was all they could salvage so they had to cobble together something even if they knew it didn't work".
This is just the visuals in one long shot. It's Naked Gun levels of comedy, NOBODY can take it seriously, and yet they did it anyways.
Show went to shit the moment he had a kid
I felt the same way. He shouldn't be expected to be a dad and a serial killer. It's dumb writing.
Also, end of season 7 was just kind of dumb in terms of character motivations. (not sure how to work spoilers on hear)

>Why is Hollywood so utter shit at writing endings to good series
The Sopranos
Breaking Bad
The West Wing
All impeccable endings. Maybe Dexter just wasn't a high enough caliber show to receive a great ending.
Or, press ctrl+s and type between the two blocks.
I agree, just probably should have ended the series by that point though anyway
S4 ending had the potential to be a great finale
If they'd have left it there, we'd all remember Dexter as the show with one slightly duff season with 3 great ones who pulled off a really risky cliffhanger ending
But execs gotta plough that shit for money
>either you agree with killing or you don't, there is no middle ground
>either you're fine with ISIS burning people alive or you'd stand by as your wife is being raped
from what i read somewhere, Dexters original ending was Deb kills Dexter and dropped him into the sea
the bosses at showtime wanted dexter to continue on just in case they wanted to bring the show back
Because it's not worth the money to hire great writers to make a great ending when the producers already made a fortune up to that point. What's the point of making a great ending if it won't lead to more episodes and more cash? At least that's how I imagine they reason it.
Thank you for this prototypically leddit comment
What are you talking about? Lost had the perfect ending
Dexter was a wasted opportunity. They should have dived way deeper inside Dexter's mind but instead they decided to go for the normie route and the show lost its tracks not even midway through. It was still enjoyable but you felt like Dexter's character was going to go anywhere. They tried to make him look like the good guy too much, he was a psychopath who was addicted to killing people and they should have had give more space to this, maybe by directly confrontanting him with his bloodlust against innocent people. There was just too morale to Dexter's character which didn't work considering the premise. The finale was terrible but yeah pretty much everyone knows that.
Of course
Yeah should've been him starting off with killers but then slowly progressing into him killing just regular people and trying to justify that.
By the end he should've just realised that he was yet just another serial killer and offed himself.
>America has a huge problem with fetishising violence and revenge
Almost every human being on this planet does. Get over yourself.
Saxon
Never got the hype, Dexter was never good
>dude like killing is wrong
>sure Jamal please rob and rape my daughter, vengeance is awful
Based clueless retard
>tells jews god has abandoned them in favour of the gentile
>literally fashions his own whip and beats Jewish ursurers out of the holy temple
>calls jews devil worshippers
>NUH UH ITS JUST ANOTHER KIKE RELIGION
There are very few shows, good or not, that manage to satisfy with their endings. Even satisfying or cathartic endings can sometimes be a little too saccharine to actually be good. The Office is a great show with a satisfying ending through its catharsis and great ensemble reuniting, but it was in an emotionally manipulative way that was too saccharine. Seinfeld, by all accounts a great show, had an ending that was lackluster, it wasn't awful, but it was basically just a clip show, with a punchline that was a huge letdown. Entourage, another excellent show, had a couple of season finales that felt like they could have been satisfying endings, but the series finale was another example of emotional manipulation, with Ari getting back together with his wife, Vince getting married and E and Sloan seeming to actually get back together with her being pregnant. They even had a second chance at a satisfying ending with the movie, which was actually pretty entertaining, but again it just didn't have a satisfying ending, it felt like a long episode of the show, or a two or three episode arc pushed into movie format.
For dramas, Breaking Bad had a decent ending, then it added a few more endings with other episodes. I would have put the best ending as the third last episode, but they kept going with Walt's contrived revenge/save Jesse/make sure his kids were taken care of scheme, and it just felt a little too easy after the rest of the show. Lost is an example of a decent ending that failed to satisfy most fans for various reasons, in universe and out. While the island may not have been purgatory in name, it was more or less purgatory in concept, and when everybody figured that out in season 2, the creators swore up and down it wasn't the case. Then, instead of moving forward with their original plan and staying silent, they just kept adding layer after layer of sci-fi/mystical mystery, and answered very few of the pertinent questions.
yeah cmon i know its obligatory but the sopranos exist
The Bible's ending is the best of all time.
Total apocalypse on Earth.
All the fags burn.
And the Jews get called out for being Satan's children.
You can't fathom a better end-times than the Christian one.
>good series
>Dexter
As long as we understand the books are retarded too
>replace all the writers with women
>show immediately goes to shit
what happen????
Aside from the show never being good to begin with, I suspect the writers were doing their best to get it cancelled. I'm pretty sure they wanted to end it after season 5 or 6 but Showtime kept pushing them to make more, which is probably why it ended in a way that they could bring it back one day.
Not all the psychos are the same
Based true Christian
unironically I accidentally watched only to the Season 4, and skipped mjorily of Season 3,
reasons why : I watched Arrow Season 1 and Breaking Bad parallel and my torrent upload of Season 3 got fucked up.
Also then Daredevil started, and then I just stopped watched shows because Metal Gear Solid V TPP came out (and in some way ruined my life).
And only then I heard that somehow Season 4 considered as peak.
Then I YT watched how his sister discovered he is a killa (before I watched Dexter to begin with)
and then ending of Season 8, with stupid video where they mixed X-Men Origins Wolverine
