Temple of Doom drags too long. It takes like an hour to get off. Then action is great but too short as it ends after like 30 minutes.

Temple and Crusade definitely have that "80's feel". Raiders feels like a 70's flick. I think it's because MTV premiered in 1981 and up until about the mid 80's movies still had a sort of gritty lived in look to them while the pacing and tone were slower. It's not just Raiders, look at Spielberg and Lucas' work as Directors and Producers until about 1984-1985. Jaws, Star Wars, CEOT3K, Empire, Raiders, Poltergeist, Gremlins, even Back to the Future.

They just feel different compared to movies later in the decade and I blame MTV for it.

A good example is the Friday the 13th flicks. I'd say up until 6 the series still had a low fi quality. Same with Ghostbusters and Beverly Hills Cop. But by 85 everything got slicker and faster because people felt they had to come up to a certain visual level.

This is why people always say that Empire Strikes Back is the most "boring" of the Star Wars movies. But it takes its time to draw you in like Conan The Barbarian, another movie that has a pace and tone that you never see anymore.

Also, compare the scene's between Indy and Sallah in Raiders which feel dramatic and their scene's in Crusade where it's cartoonish. The back to the future trilogy has the same problem. Part 1, as crazy as shit might be, still has the feel of a real movie while 2 and 3 feel like cartoons.

the opening and ending scenes of last crusade are among the best in cinema history. river phoenix did a great job as young indy, and the group riding off into the sunset while the score swells is transcendent kino.

Everyone also seems to forget that Leigh Brackett (who worked on The Big Sleep, Rio Bravo, The Long Goodbye and was also a Sci-fi novelist) co-Scripted Empire while Phillip Kaufman (The Right Stuff) did the preliminary work on Raiders. That’s not even including the contributions of those films Directors and the rest of the cast/crew. Kasdan has spent the last 35+ years writing shit and even Directed that fucking dreadful adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Dreamcatcher. So I’m inclined to believe that Kasdan was just in the right place at the right time and got more credit than he deserved!!!FACT!!!
