Rewatch the whole series and try again

why don't I see animes drawn like this anymore

Everything is done digitally now.

False
This style had shown in test groups to attract less people. New artstyle as shown in kimi no na wa/your name. And My Hero Academia is both cheaper and shows to be more popular with test groups so that is going to be the default group. More thicker outlines, bigger eyes and more straight angles.

As an amateur animator myself I kinda hate this development. But mob psycho II has shown me that even with the new artstyle there can still be a focus on actual animation so I'm less bothered about it now.

Evangelion itself also has lots of cut corners within its animation so I can't really complain.

Attached: tumblr_mgznl3AHSy1riyvejo1_500.png (500x631, 254K)

Just finished the series 15 minutes ago and holy fuck am I confused

don't know but the medium peaked during the 90s because of that, current anime looks too shiny and less realistic somehow
also that drawing style made violence look somehow more sickening, the gore in end of evangelion or akira is really stomach turning

The animation's still done on paper, and digital mostly looks the same as cel if the production team wants it to look that way.

I've literally not even once heard about any test groups used in the industry. Styles just change over time, and if you go back ten years from Evangelion it doesn't look the same either.

It would have been perfect but the last segment was too sad.

I marathoned the first three episodes of the show and it was just a generic mecha anime. Is the movie really worth suffering through that shit? Why would it be so different?

he realized he wants others and to be an individual rather than a collective cesspool of consciousness

>generic
There's that meaningless word again.

one of the more interesting depictions of an apocalypse. it was literally orgasmic.

yeah the very last scene kinda bothers me. but.. it's still open ended. i cant imagine shinji and asuka can remain sane like that though.

they aren't even mechs because that implies they're robots, which they aren't, now kys

You post too much on here, time for a break.

it goes through silly anime tropes early in the show too, really comfy if youre into that stuff. but trust me it's worth it, the second half of the show + eoe is worth it though, shit gets fucked

mommy

What happened to Rei? She's now an immortal goddess out of our material world? Was she actually Sophia and Kaworu (Adam) was christ ?

This is deflection.

I'll gladly explain any questions you have

Did you watch EoE yet?

>It was a generic mech anime
It's not

>the movie really worth suffering through that shit
Yes

>Why would it be different
you will see

did you reply to the wrong person

No I have not, I suppose I should watch that next.

I'm not him but i see you post that line all the time, fuck off human bot.

What could possibly happens? They will fucking dies of starvation, there is probably no animals alive anymore and the water is fucked on the entire planet.

Concerning humanity, they can reproduce of course but their descendants will be inbreds unable to reproduce.

Maybe instrumentality was not finished and episode 25-26 of the show actually follow EoE.

She contained the soul of Lilith. She didnt become and immortal goddess, she just returned to her original form

Attached: 0_GHhHyLbFncvbhy7S.png (333x480, 150K)

Because you keep misusing the word. Don't try to deflect.

Just drink the tang bruh

I'm sure there will be other humans who reject instrumentality, and I personally don't think the WHOLE world is as fucked up as the ending. That's the exact spot the third impact happened, so it's not unreasonable to assume it's worst there than anywhere else.

>Maybe instrumentality was not finished and episode 25-26 of the show actually follow EoE.
Definitely not. We see exactly where they line up

watch it because it's the true ending

yes. oops

a masterpiece of shit

It's not the "true" ending. It's what's happening in the real world during the final 2 episodes

Maybe the Rebuild confused me because in them the entire planet ocean is fucked after second impact.
Do you know what exactly happened to Rei or Kaworu? They exist outside of the matter now?

it's the true ending. get fucked

yes. the movie is a legitimate masterpiece. even outside of the characters and story it has fantastic cinematography.

it's the unnecessary ending for redditors who are too stupid to understand the series and want more epic action scenes

How they will survive is really beside the point. The core of Evangelion's message is when Shinji rejects Instrumentality.

ok bud

Yeesh grow a pair

Both endings complement each other

no because in the show instrumentality happens and in the movie he rejects it. they're different.

It is not me you dumb fag, stop using deflect incorrectly if anything

Don't consider the rebuilds for even a second when thinking about EoE.

>What happened with Rei and Kaworu
Kaworu is dead. What we see during instrumentality is likely closer to a representation of Adam making himself more familiar to Shinji
Rei is technically dead too because Lilith was killed when Shinji rejected instrumentality, but her being transcends time and space as we see during the final scene of eoe and the first episode of NGE, so her final state is kinda hard to say

This. I can't possibly imagine watching one without the other

I wasn't using it incorrectly:
>a turning aside or off course : deviation
Maybe you should stop using words altogether.

Why do the rebuilds even exist?

You're an idiot. What do you think the "congratulations" scene is? That's him rejecting it.

We see the exact moment the congratulations scene occurs in EoE too.

part 4 will be anno's true masterpiece

the tv ending takes place after asuka and shinji, stranded at ground zero after the events of eoe, give in and "drink the tang". where they meet up with the rest of humanity. and it is happily ever after

Could the Rebuilds possibly be sequels of EoE?

I have very low expectations after the insanity that was 3.0

Attached: 1b77pc4c2cl21.jpg (812x1024, 61K)

All you really need to understand to get Eva is The Hedgehog's Dilemma.

Yes, but considering they were made decades later, I wouldn't look at stuff like the red ocean as evidence for any sort of EoE theory.

They are """sequels""" but take place in their own self contained timeloop. Some time after the events of EoE the universe resets itself, and we get the rebuilds.

Why are these NGE threads popping up everywhere all of a sudden
I don't want to be paranoid but I just recently started this series, on episode 14 and the timing is just too impeccable. What the fuck are you fucks playing at?

I'm not deflecting because i'm not the person that called it generic.

This. The rebuilds are so far off from what I want out of Evangelion that honestly I just wish they didn't exist

It just came to Netflix with a new dub

You're the brainlet here bud. They congratulate him not for rejecting it but realizing that he has found out himself and his insecurities
>We see the exact moment the congratulations scene occurs in EoE too.
"No."

>dub

Just no

I'm rewatching it now and it's crazy how on the nose the first half is

You posted:
>
That's a clear-cut case of deflection, doing the same thing as

You fucking asked, idiot

instrumentality happens in both and shinji rejects it in both.

the scene of him choking asuka in eoe is where it starts, and in the scenes afterwards he comes to terms with why instrumentality is not a solution to his problems like he first thought and rejects it.

in 25/26 the episodes start mid-instrumentality and offer a different perspective on shinji coming to terms with himself, but the result is the same with him rejecting it at the end, hence the congratulations scene.

3.0 could have been kino as fucks if we get what was in the preview.

>far off from what I want out of Evangelion
What exactly did you want from it after EoE? A recap of the best moments in the TV series with a better budget? I kinda like this low key fuck you to the fans who keep asking for more after everything's been said and done. I hope Anno dilly-dallies on 4.44 5ever, fuck everyone who thinks they're entitled to closure

watch the netflix release or the original?

On repeated viewings, you don't get so distracted by all the flashy symbolism that Anno only added because Christian mythology is very exotic and strange in Japan.

Hey asshole, that's just a different person being a shameless subfag. I'm the one who asked (and thank you for responding)

Hayashibara: So there will be two episode 25s.
Anno: Right, it will be a multi-ending.
Hayashibara: So, a dual... ah, a multi-ending. After episode 24 the endings will diverge.
Anno: Right.
Hayashibara: There will be two of them.
Anno: There will be two of them.
Hayashibara: Ah, two endings.
Anno: Yes.
Hayashibara: In terms of gaming - is it called a simulation game? What do you call it? The ending for that [particular] self changes as you go on [through the game].
Anno: Right, a multi-ending [game].

get shit on faggot

Again not deflection. Just tired of seeing you post the same thing every other thread.

I'd rather die than do it with you.

We do though. We see the exact final shot of NGE right as he rejects it. Pic related. That's our way of knowing exactly where the 2 endings line up, before popping out of Lilith's eyeball

>What exactly did you want from it after EoE?
Nothing.

Either is fine. They both have positives and negatives
Personally, I'd say the Netflix version
>Has better voice acting
>Is a bit easier to understand given the way they word things
>has worse dialog
>Certain characters don't carry the same energy as they did in the original
>Also lacks the original outro, which is a shame but shouldnt be a deal breaker

Really it's up to you

Forgot pic

Attached: DBsjLQlXcAAibYA.png (400x300, 195K)

i havnt watched the rebuilds yet. i have a weird question, is there nudity/nipples in them?

Evangelion is essential depressioncore of all mediums.

yes

i mean that is the most popular interpretation

i have watched tons of torture porn or video nasties over the years but violence in anime during that time period has an actual effect on me, the gritty drawing style back then and the attention to details beats real world practical effects easily. watch stuff like genocyber and tell me you don't feel uneasy afterwards, it's like a bad trip

Attached: 51251.png (1920x1080, 3M)

Not really

It is deflection because instead of addressing the topic you make this about me, even though it has nothing to do with me. You don't want to talk about the fact that the word is being misused.

whose nipples do we see? is it just rei/rei clones or do we get some juicy mari and asuka? all i truly want is misato tiddies though x.x

no misato tittiez

The point is they are better equipped emotionally to exist in relation to one another, everyone else may return to individual existence if they wish

Could we make an alternate epic ending where Instrumentality never happens and the Eva series is defeated by the three pilots fighting together? Just says Rei wishes to transform Lilith into Unit-00 when she merges with it making a reverse scene of her death as Rei II to symbolize her resurrection with a more powerful Eva being her original body.

Asuka and her fight together the Eva series, Unit 02 eat the core of one of the birds to get an S2 engine with infinite energy, they also use their wings to attack the Eva series on Sky.

Then Shinji came on Eva 01 with his more powerful wings, and do an epic final battle against the ultimate Eva called Yaldabaoth being the awful fusion of the remaining birds, with Cruel Angel's thesis on the background.

The movie finish with the rapture of the three Evas on the sky, they ascend slowly on the sky with a light covering the field, the moms souls and Rei saying goodbye to Asuka and Shinji with some Christian music on the background.

I don't care, you post the same sentence over and over again, that is the issue.

>this is actually what weebs believe
Embarrassing desu

>Could we make an alternate epic ending where Instrumentality never happens
Look up Evangelion Anima.

It's a novel about a timeline that takes place 3 years after the 3rd impact was supposed to happen but never does thanks to Kaji outing Seele before they have a chance to start instrumentality

Attached: C_-P0owVoAAI0c7.jpg (850x600, 136K)

You keep misusing the word over and over again, and you obviously want to keep doing it for some reason.

>he thinks evangelion is about the pilots
it's gendo's story being witnessed behind the dumb kids stories

Knights of sidonia was better

Attached: 1560737596404.jpg (900x1200, 150K)

It's animation for teenagers if you are over 17 and you like it

Series noob here, what's up with the LCL in the entry plugs? Where did it come from? What purpose does it serve?

All i'm saying is at least vary your sentence structure.

How far are you in the series? I don't want to spoil something that isnt already supposed to be known

Basically it connects the pilot to the eva

I did vary my sentence structure. If you dont' want getting told that you're using a word incorrectly then stop using it incorrectly.

Nah, she dies but at one moment she did became a godlike being, since she merged with Adam and lilith.

Primordial soup. The instrument of a collective consciousness. Within the eva plugs, its a mediator for the pilot's nervous system to link with the eva's.

It's often compared to blood in the series

>last two episodes of the show were so terrible they had to make this movie to give it a proper ending
>first half seems promising enough
>goes full "dude so surreal and randum lmao" mode in the second half
>haha I jerked off to a hot girl I'm so fucked up XD

Garbage movie and show. Western animation will always be superior.

Attached: 1482109062962.png (1440x1080, 1.34M)

you are like a timeloop.

Lmao thanks for the laugh white boy.

t. White person

That was animated in korea though.

Why do you keep misusing the word and why do you insist on continuing to misuse it? Why can't you use words correctly? What is wrong with you?

By Western animation you of course mean American animation, and no it is not superior. It's largely a joke compared to anime. They've barely even animated any of their own shows since the 1970s. Such as Avatar.

Being white is something negative now?

Not me. I don't post that often.

The only reason you're still going on about this is because you're offended by me pointing out that the word is being misused.

It's because you don't expect animated characters to be fucked up like that

No.

Yes. There really is no other reason. You even said you aren't the one I originally responded to, yet you're still doing this. Because you also misuse the word and want to keep doing it.

I watched the series + EoE a while back, rewatching it now. I'm also a brainlet, so have mercy.

Try again.

Why don't you try explaining then what you are still doing here? Why are you so bothered by me pointing out the misuse of the word?

The LCL in the cockpit connects the pilot to their mothers soul inhabiting the Eva

I'm not going to repeat myself.

>marathoned the first three episodes
wew

Then you admit that I'm right. Case closed.

>"senpai... sumimamsen...but, we ran out of money and the artists, animators and writers said they aren't working anymore until they get paid"
>"Don';t worry, we just use some napkins and ill make some shitty drawings, those mouthbreathing weebs will eat it..."
> "But, senpai... we odnt even have any idea on where the plot is going to end so.."
>"shut up, well just throw some retarded meaningless religious and phsychological mumbo jumbo and they will think it's a life changing experience LMAO, get on it.."
>"GANBAREEEEEEEEEE..."

You're right sorry I'm a loser haha

>now

>I'm the protagonist, so im going to go meet my father who abandoned me and tell him how much i hate him...
>LOL no, i quit, see ya later i cant pilot this giant robot.
>OMG the celing is falling apart and this girl is bleeding, Ok ill pilot it GANBAREEEEEEE
>Ok i had enough of this, i quit, goodbye, dont ever call me ever again...
>LMAO just kidding, im back, GANBAREEEEE
>OK this time i quit for sure, ive had enough already, you just made me attack my friend and he almost died.. i quit, see you never again.
>LMFAO just kidding , IM BACKK GANBAREEEEEEEEE

>"i told you they will eat it didn't i Yoshi? i knew it because ive watched Holy Mountain, the best movie ever made, i love Alejandro Jodorowski.."
"GANBAREEE ARIGATOU..."

Attached: 895912125689.png (704x480, 402K)

i don't care about the arguement. i was asking you to be more creative.

Did the Netflix come out with new Japanese voice acting or what?

Attached: 1561471343237.jpg (211x173, 13K)

new dub voice acting

Attached: 1582194974781.jpg (181x274, 9K)

I have no idea what you're talking about and in any case you have conceded defeat.

It is, indeed.

Just imagine an alternate universe where Rei was never strangled to death and her agressive behavior still remains and where Asuka's mom never killed herself but remained crazy, making Asuka having low self-esteem.

basically Rei is the mean one and Asuka the shy one, how Shinji could handle it?

Attached: Have Sex.png (855x655, 234K)

>defeat
I wasn't argueing with you.

This type of YMS/CinemaSins/Nostalgia Critic approach to consuming art is fucking retarded. YouTubers have turned your brain into dog shit, dude.

>GANBAREEEEEEEEE
?

>this fantastical story is unrealistic!
That approach is for youtubers to shit out criticisms to pad their 10 minute videos so they can get ad revenue when they're not smart enough to discuss the themes of the story or details from the plot.

Absolutely true, fucking hate this shit.

>Top 10 reasons why piloting EVAs wouldn't actually work in real life
>What would happen if humanity actually got wiped out?
>Top 15 buildings that would survive an Angel attack
>How the NGE main cast would act in a zombie apocalypse

It's almost like Shinji being torn on whether or not to pilot the Eva is an import part of his character or something.

Rei wasn't aggressive, she's just an autistic child parroting what Gendo says to her.

Rei is a clone and has died and been replaced with another one like 3 times the entire series. Why would she change personality all of a sudden?

Watch 1.1 2.2 and 3.3 on Acid. You'll never the same again

Why not just watch EoE on acid?

Attached: AQHt5XYAESGgp.jpg (1080x594, 103K)

NGE is a convoluted mess, but that's exactly what sets it apart
the show is brilliant in the way it distributes information - everyone knows some dark secrets and glimpses of the true nature of what's happening but nobody pieces it all together
the whole conspiracy and sinister thing is done excellently, and the way the show gradually spirals out of control from a day-time mecha to completely surreal apocalyptic implications is amazing, and you will never experience anything like that ever again
thanks anno

because her soul was divided in two and Rei 2 became autistic as fucks.

Attached: Stop watching anime.webm (774x420, 2.9M)

good post

what is this from? oot looks funny and i want to watch it.

It's a bunch of nihilistic bullshit.

But Evangelion is insanely optimistic. The whole message of the show is learning to love yourself

I like the interpretation that the ending was supposed to make fun of otakus that keep secluding themselves from the real world and wanting to engage with people implying that accepting Instrumentality would actually be the good ending.

Attached: Kawapaper.jpg (800x640, 133K)

I did. Equally as good.

lots of details are never told to you and you have to read outside shit to understand it

JUST BEEEEEEEEEE

The japs really do know how to turn the cringe up.

>they hate anime
>that's why they named their son after an anime character

source? Can't find shit

why would you want 90s style jay leno chins and pointy as fuck noses

Episodes 25+26 were better. First half of EoE kinda dragged.

Attached: giphy.gif (480x197, 3.34M)

>So this is my retribution
>Forgive me, Shinji

Chills every time

I'm not exactly sure what that means. Is he denied instrumentality?

It's vague and up to interpretation

So many questions:
>What were the angels trying to accomplish?
>Are the og episode 25-26 even canon?
>Was the gray-haired girl even human at all?
>Why was the guy choking the redhead at the end?

Attached: 1469791715962.gif (500x375, 756K)

>Why would she change personality all of a sudden?
to be fair she's been developing a 'personality' ever since she became attached to Shinji.

His entire reason for living was to be with his dead wife again but Rei wouldn't let him. He asks Shinji for forgiveness because he regrets being a horrible father.

Should I do my first watch on Netflix, or just pirate it? I've had people breathing down my neck about watching it for years and it looks neat but not sure if the netflix subbed version is any good

I want to into this. Where should I start? It’ll be my fourth Anime I’ve watched and enjoyed if I like it.

episode 1

Wow you basically made my post seconds before I did.
>WEAREALLONE

I was also newcomer until a few days ago. Just watch episodes 1-26 of "Neo Genesis Evangelion" and then the movie "End of Evangelion", both on netflix.

wtf

merging with adam (maybe also destroy lilith, i don't remember)
yes, they're the psychological ride that happens in interpreting instrumentality, everyone is fused in a single mind so to speak and they interact with 100% contact without barrier
she was many clones, had the soul of lilith and shinji's mom iirc, she's not even best girl anyway
it's a nice touch

don't watch on netflix, subtitles are shitty translations
just get a torrent off nyaa

>What were the angels trying to accomplish?
Make contact with Adam so they can start their own angel race that replaces humans on Earth
>Are the og episode 25-26 even canon?
Yes. Although there is nothing to indicate much is different compared to EoE outside of the characters' minds so it's not really an issue
>Was the gray-haired girl even human at all?
Was a guy. Was also not human. Clone of adam with part of his soul.
>Why was the guy choking the redhead at the end?
You can make a whole thread out of that. There is no 'official' stance

Great! time to reup my Netflix sub!

It's fine if you can't be bothered to pirate.
The translations are more accurate than other official releases. It's just that the lines are a bit awkward. If you're not a native English speaker they are just fine. And even then it's not that bad

>it's a nice touch
Nice touch my ass. First he jacks off to the poor comatose girl and then tries to kill her. WHYY??

>dies with his back against the entrance

Attached: vlcsnap-2019-06-27-03h33m10s951.png (853x480, 528K)

Any version is completely fine

that's one possible interpretation, although what exactly happened to gendo is unclear because he wasn't tang'd like everyone else. whether he is in instrumentality or not is irrelevant though, because yui isn't in it since she's inside unit 01, making gendo's end tragic since he wouldn't be reunited with yui either way.

as for that line, he suffers alone because that's exactly what he inflicted on shinji out of fear of hurting him. yet that act is what ultimately ended up hurting shinji the most, and the events that transpired because of that are what paved the way for gendo's betrayal by rei and being denied reuniting with yui. he regrets everything he did to shinji because deep down he knows they were more alike than either wanted to admit, and shinji becoming that way is entirely gendo's fault to begin with.

he and shinji are exactly the same in their mental hangups, but the difference between them is shinji eventually learns that life is worth living anyway, but gendo could never accept that since that would mean living without yui.

Attached: 1515723024313.png (1440x1080, 2.59M)

if one of the girls who is most close to you could read your mind completely and attain everything you hold inside your mind, what would you do to her?

Watch either the old dub or new one.
If you arent already used to subtitles you will probably have a hard time understanding what's going on if you watch the Eva subs. It's a complicated show already and you will probably miss out on stuff if you are too slow with the subs

Shinji sinks to his base instinct which is to jack off from all the shit that's happening and no one to vent to.
She doesn't vent to Misato because Misato is a bitch, and Shinji got freaked out when he discovers that Rei is a clone.

>then tries to kill her
because Asuka pierces through him with her words, and after all that's happened he puts out all of his frustrations on her

If Gendo isnt in instrumentality, how was he in episode 26?

THATS
NOT
A
MARATHON

If we're to follow Then Gendo is merely an interpretation of his character.

Not sure if I like that theory. I always found it powerful to include him in the congratulations scene.

That's the joke.

Seriously how new could you possibly be?

I still wish they included this song
youtube.com/watch?v=px7FFMOTtyM

>What were the angels trying to accomplish?
they wanted to reach adam to initiate third impact, tanging humanity and becoming the dominant race on the planet. NERV/SEELE wanted to prevent this because gendo/SEELE wanted to be the ones at the helm of instrumentality so they could determine the outcome of it, not the angels.

>Are the og episode 25-26 even canon?
yes. they happen inside the minds of the characters in instrumentality while EoE are the events that transpire directly before and after it, with alternate tellings of what happens during. there are key moments in 25/26 that hint that EoE was the way it was originally supposed to end, but couldn't be accomplished since gainax ran out of money. EoE itself is is even in 2 parts/episodes.

>Was the gray-haired girl even human at all?
guy. and no, he was the final angel.

>Why was the guy choking the redhead at the end?
one common interpretation is it's shinji's attempt at determining whether what is happening is real or not, since they both just came out of instrumentality and shinji doesn't know what's real anymore. he chokes asuka at the end because that's what he did to start instrumentality, and depending on her reaction it would tell him if the world is real or not. if she was real, he would expect her to reject him since that what asuka always does. if it wasn't real, she would just sit there and take it like she did at the start of instrumentality. instead, she does neither, and accepts him and mimics the caress of his mother, showing him love and understanding. shinji, not knowing how to take this from someone he thought hated him, breaks down. asuka, being her normal self, is yet again disgusted by shinji's lack of a spine, ultimately showing these are the real characters and that despite their new understanding of each other, relationships aren't that simple and pain will still be a present aspect of living in the world and interacting with one another.

Attached: 1540907657311.jpg (720x480, 34K)

>Was a guy. Was also not human. Clone of adam with part of his soul.
>guy. and no, he was the final angel.
I'm blind, i meant the "blue" haired cloned girl.

>ultimately showing these are the real characters and that despite their new understanding of each other, relationships aren't that simple and pain will still be a present aspect of living in the world and interacting with one another.
Thanks, i really like and understand this interpretation. I'm guessing there's absolutely no official or canon continuity after this scene right?

Anyone ready for the live-action Netflix Evangelion adaptation?

Attached: DtBspBTU8AAE21R[1].jpg (597x358, 47K)

>I'm blind, i meant the "blue" haired cloned girl.
You mean Rei?
She was a clone of Yui(MC's mom) with the soul of Lilith.

will it come with a live action version of the opening?

In EoE, what was the meaning with showing the theater empty and full of people?

4th wall stuff

>I'm blind, i meant the "blue" haired cloned girl.
oh yeah. her human-ness isn't exactly concrete, and that aspect is a core part of her character development. she's a clone of yui (shinji's mom) made by gendo as an attempt to recreate his dead wife, but her soul is that of lilith, the progenitor angel of all humanity (hence why she was able to fuse with lilith's physical form and become god-rei at the end), and is precisely what makes her not yui. she is "human" in that she has a soul and is capable of introspection and self-actualization like the other characters. this makes her "human" in the poetic sense, but no she is not a normal human like the other characters.

Attached: 1518405907752.png (853x1246, 520K)

What's the West's equivalent to Evangelion?
source of this kino?

Up to interpretation

The west isn't aware of their whiny scared losers.

Apparently Anno got death threats over the last two episodes and that was his way of taking a dig at his obsessive fans. He's basically saying "it's just anime, now go the fuck outside into the real world."

>I'm guessing there's absolutely no official or canon continuity after this scene right?
yes.

people argue that the rebuilds are a sequel, but until 4.0 is out that's nothing but speculation, and the rebuilds should be ignored as cashgrab trash garbage until something is 100% confirmed. you do not need them to understand or appreciate NGE+EoE anyway.

Nigger, the show's been out for 20 something years do your own fucking research you lazing fucking bum. Use your fucking brain for once in your filthy existence. Lurk more faggot.

What does Rei magic meat taste like?

You really expect me to go and watch an hour long essay when some random anons already answered in a couple of minutes?

>since they both just came out of instrumentality
Asuka had just come out. Shinji had been alone for who knows how long. Notice how he had made a grave for Misato.

Filename faggot. Stay spoonfed, never produce thoughts, only consume.

Attached: spoonfed_logo.png (408x128, 12K)

The apartment scene with Shinji and Asuka confuses me. Earlier in the show we're shown a similar scene where Shinji is telling Asuka Kaji is dead.

My theory is that the scene leading up to the choke into instrumentality is within Shinji's mind but did actually happen (minus the choke) where in reality he just tried to make Asuka angry and sad by telling her Kaji is dead instead of physically attacking her (which is what he wanted to do).

Him recalling his loneliness (the sand castle geofront and the doll kids) and being abandoned by Asuka in a moment of despair was what made him decide to accept instrumentality at first which caused the tumbling down.

question:

does the netflix version change the "two depressed grown ups licking each other's wounds" line in EoE? one of my all time favourite analogies

how did the preview differ?

Gendo's wooden delivery in JP always bothers me in this scene. It's like he's reading the script as his character, with no investment in what's happening to him. It's probably unironically delivered better in the dub.

Yes. It's retranslated entirely

why did they have to change the dub it was fine before. the new VAs are so low energy they always sound like theyre about to fall asleep half the time did netflix pay them in heroin and xanax

Attached: 1561490872652.jpg (464x618, 32K)

thats basically how the new english vas sound to me so I guess in that way its more faithful to the original japanese

Because they didn't have the rights to distribute the old localization obviously. They had the rights to the show, but not the audio track that ADV, the company that dubbed it before did

>He didn't get it
Yikes

I really don't understand the change either, especially when the original cast is still alive and well and enthusiastic to reprise the roles.

it's a parallel to the kiss scene. they're wearing the same clothes. in the first scene asuka is trying to connect with shinji out of desperation, but both of their guarded personas don't allow anything to happen and it's played off as somewhat comedic (though later shown to be heartbreaking for asuka when she gets mindraped). in the second scene, shinji is trying to connect with asuka out of desperation, and they are no longer guarded since they're in instrumentality and both of their true personalities and feelings towards one another come out (though arguably this asuka is just a projection of shinji's, it's not entirely clear). asuka tells shinji what he doesn't want to hear, and this angers him, so he lashes out against her and kickstarts instrumentality because he wants it all to end.

asuka in this scene is basically an expy for all of humanity. shinji believes everyone hates him (a narcissistic delusion that asuka and later rei blatantly calls him out for) so he doesn't try to connect with people out of fear of being hurt. but this cold disconnect ends up hurting others (asuka) as a result, something that shinji refuses to acknowledge. he can only see his own problems and doesn't recognize asuka's cries for help but expects her to be there for him when he needs help, and asuka understandably gets pissed and tells him to fuck off. asuka rejecting shinji in this scene represents all of humanity rejecting him, and in this thought shinji sees no reason for he and humanity to continue to exist if all that exists for either is pain.

See
You can't just take somebody else's work.

Humans are too much trouble, too complicated and conflicting for their own good. Shinji was right.

So they couldn't use the original voice actors re-record the lines?

redpill me on the impenetrable wall of jericho Yea Forums

would a 14 year old jap boy even understand that reference?

There a time skip before the last two episodes, and they take place after instrumentality.
EoE covers what happens between killing kaworu and instrumentality.

moe anime with robots

(((test groups)))
what's preventing these from being faked?

I guess they could have. But a lot of people are pretending those actors were better than they actually are.
I can see the logic in every single one of the voices changed.

Even if you don't like the new Shinji and Asuka they were clearly recast to sound more like children, regardless of the actual quality of the other performers

Faked by who? The whole reason you have test groups is to see what could make you the best possible money

Money

It does get a little repetitive after a while

The last sentence here is right on the money. I see so much of my father in Gendo. And I understand that the template of the film leaves you to interpret everything, but the "life with living" without someone you think you NEED but WANT... that hits home. I don't know I still think it is insane this show builds up to basically become intro to puberty through anime arthouse lol

see the old clark gable movie. it's about a guy and a girl who act like they can't stand each other but need each other to get through a trek across america. the line is famous and anno references "it happened one night" because he's a fucking pimp

Stop watching cartoons.

So why does SEELE want everyone to be LCL tang? What’s the point of being in a “sea of consciousness” as opposed to existing in the material world?

Unless being a part of the LCL puts you in some kind of weird heaven where you can do whatever you want I want no part of it

It basically combines everyone's consciousness into one, so that there is no more pain or hatred in the world. That's what we are seeing in episode 25/26 and EoE.

Seele though wanted to be in complete control of it. They failed, but were still content because instrumentality DID end up happening in a way they weren't expecting

They are assholes following some gnostic cult who believe the primordial state of existence is superior because you feel nothing but you still exist, and you exist forever.

So why does SEELE want everyone to be LCL tang? What’s the point of being in a “sea of consciousness” as opposed to existing in the material world?

Unless being a part of the LCL puts you in some kind of weird heaven where you can do whatever you want I want no part of it

Pretentious trash.

Shit sorry double post

...

>What’s the point of being in a “sea of consciousness” as opposed to existing in the material world?
Being an individual kinda sucks and is inescapably lonely. All the problems in the world are due to the cognitive and emotional barriers that are inherent in individuality.

I mean the show clearly suggests that despite that it's still preferable. The differences between everyone is what gives us form and significance. You have no basis to figure out who you are unless you have another to compare yourself to. The whole show is just highlighting the fact that being a person is difficult but probably worth it in the end.

Keep in mind that soul exist on Eva and could be a quantifiable thing.
during instrumentality you are only one giga-soul with the consciouness of everyones living as the soup of life state, maybe for them it was a way to became some kind of god or to contact the true god transcending to another state of existence.

Instrumentality was put into effect, what you saw was a seen from the new human hive mind.

Yeah, it's just a coincidence that they always happen to pick the art style that costs the least amount of money, huh?

if achieving what is 'preferable' in terms of experience was our goal then we would all be OD'ing on painkillers

so any time anyone tells you that's what they're aiming for and they *haven't* done that, you immediately know they're lying

Why would they hold private test groups at all if they just wanted to take them anyway?

You're an absolute fucking brainlet.

Both endings being separate and distinct doesn't change the fact instrumentality absolutely occurs in EoE, and Shinji rejects it, just like in the tv ending.

It's also total fucking garbage fyi. Skips over the children's development to avoid having to actually write it or them anything like they are in the series and devolves extremely fast into dumb twists and nonsensical bullshit built on fanservice just like Rebuild did from 2.0 on. Prose is poor too, author writes all dialogue like it's a fucking tv script and is seemingly afraid of internal narration.

You read it already?

The old dub was fucking garbage but you shouldn't listen to either one of them if you're an adult. youtube.com/watch?v=afBf9n355BE

>4 minutes into EoE
what the fuck ?

Attached: 1514077184984.jpg (525x633, 28K)

You haven't seen anything yet

Welcome to the club. Order a drink and enjoy the visit.

It's passable in terms of animation and kinography (there are much better animations out there).
It's a terrible mess in terms of writing (inb4 muh translation) and plot.
The supposed highlight of it all is that there is one twink (and then one roastie) in the entire world that doesn't fall for anime gnosticism.

>He didn't get it

Attached: wojakmeme23.png (894x773, 48K)

Eva is more Kabbalah than Gnosticism, as is explicit right from the start of the series. Rei is the Shekinah in Malkuth as a reflection of Binah (Yui). Gendo is Geburah. Shinji is Tiphareth.
Kaworu and Rei would seem to form a new Adam Kadmon.

In korean via fan TLs, yes.

We're talking about EoE, not NGE. EoE is all-time ultimate kinography as a 16:9 80+ minute film. NGE is a TV of varying quality.

the power of latex is too strong.

Attached: 1561060530168.png (1800x1249, 1.65M)

Reminder if you actually know anything about Christian or Jewish mythology/mysticism/art and analyse the series via its lens you are simply recognizing universally repeated archetypes, themes, and storybeats and layering allegory over them with material that the Nip creators knew fuck all about.

The religious shit means very little beyond the surface level shit like Lilith and Adam being the origin of life on the planet as per side materials, trying to deeply interpret or frame the whole work like that is a futile exercise if you want to understand it.

Attached: 01.png (207x797, 18K)

Prove to me that you know a single thing about Kabbalah. Even to utilize the symbolism they did would've required some study in the pre-Internet age.

Of course but instrumentality is also basically becoming the Demiurge.

Kek

>Prove to me that you know a single thing about Kabbalah.
Why should I?
>Even to utilize the symbolism they did would've required some study in the pre-Internet age.
You're overestimating the depth of their research. Anno was an Ultraman nerd who cribbed a ton of stuff from it and other works like Devilman in terms of visual symbolism without really understanding the meaning behind a lot of it, and other senior staff have outright said they inserted western religious elements because they found them cool rather than to say something coherent.

Fuck off newfag.

How so? Isn't it Tikkun? The twist that humanity is Lilith's offspring makes more sense in the context of her being the mother of the adverse tree of separation.
>just stop thinking, bro
That's not very fun or stimulating. And you or someone identical to you posts this in every thread; stop being so unoriginal.

I think it's the one who decide how it will turn that became the demiurge, not the result we see on the movie but Shinji actually became the demiurge and used the power Eva 01 and Rei-Lilith gave him to decide annihilation, but with that power you can wishes everything you want.

Gendo wanted to become the demiurge, Seele too, Yui just wanted to become the new Lilith basically inside Eva 01.

Because Netflix wanted to cast a tranny

>just stop thinking, bro
I'm not saying that at all, I'm just saying if you're trying to create some kind of coherent critique of the work or discern greater meaning from it by using that as a base to work from you're making a mistake. Personally I enjoy discussing that side of Eva but I don't go acting as if any of it has an intended greater meaning - it's fun to examine for its own sake even if it's not really something Anno was thinking of at the time.
>stop being so unoriginal.
Kind of funny coming from the guy trying to frame NGE in terms of Kabbalah.

Spike Spencer was a terrible Shinji and a terrible VA period. The new VA isn't necessarily better, but he's not worse either. Being a tranny doesn't matter, as Ogata was a woman and voiced Shinji amazingly. The core issue is talent, which the western VA industry just can't attract.

plebshit. lain was better

>The core issue is talent, which the western VA industry just can't attract.
It can, just not for midrange weebshit in English. There's plenty talented voice actors working on bigger budget or more mainstream properties in English and nip dubs in French, German, and Italian have a fair pool of talent between them.

True, it's probably the best new anime released in 10 years.

Bebops is great though

It's not a tranny. It's an "intersex" or one of those weird spinoffs where she "doesnt have a gender"

Biologically she's a woman. Not a mtf tranny

Cowboy Bebop was an extremely unusual intersection of artistic vision and talent. The characters within (like Full Metal Alchemist) were clearly based on western races, and competently cast as such. The company behind that dub died in 2014.

Fry me to za moon

Yet Netflix couldn’t spend money to hire good actors

Eva should have been the same. Wonder why VAs didn't get inspired by it.

saw it a few years ago but the way i saw it was that instrumentality was the process of syncing up everyones perceptions of eachother with the real deals
in eoe instrumentality happens and the show ending occurs but after it shinji realises that the mental barriers we have seperate us from others but also give us all unique identities and keep us as humans
after the shows ending is the conversation with rei and shinji's human weaknesses prevent him from locking in instrumentality forever
he is unable to sacrifice his identity and humanity in exchange for total unity because all shinji really wants is to be loved by someone human (mental barriers and all)
good movie

An autistic qt I went on a couple of dates loves this anime so I watched it. What now? I think she identifies as Rei. She wants to fuck her dad or what?

How would you even get the dad part? She's closer to wanting to fuck her son.

EoE is the best film of the 1990s.
Prove me wrong.

Eyes Wide Shut was released in 1999, otherwise I have no other examples.

I don't know I watched the last 4 episodes drunk (still drunk)

Shinji chose to live in an imperfect world and overcome his personality flaws on his own rather than live in a perfect world. Choking Asuka was him reaching out and her letting someone else in. Asuka says it's disgusting because it's the first time she's let herself be vulnerable

She says it's disgusting because she saw him wanking on her in the tang.

You know things can have multiple meanings that relate to the themes presented right?

>the fate of destruction is also the joy of rebirth.

Genuinely what the fuck does this mean?

>being a tranny doesnt matter
Take a look at this degenerate faggot

I can't, maybe Magnolia? But EoE triumphs over it too.

>dub
lmao who cares

Rei just has a similar kind of flat affect, extreme introversion, trouble connecting with others, and overall lack of spontaneity that many autistic girls can relate to.

just finished eoe
that was the best animation feature i've ever seen and i feel like i need it to watch at least two more times to get it
i'm most confused by that ending on the beach though, what the hell did it mean ? that things are just going back to normal ?

I’m about to watch this series, haven’t watched an anime since like DBZ 20 years ago. What am I in for?

Just restart the film whenever it's convenient. You've entered a larger world, friend. It'll take some time to really get it, but that's how the movie is.

Attached: 1531630647858.jpg (1280x720, 199K)

So does this post.

HOW DID SHINJIS MOTHER DIE AND DIDNT SHINJI WITNESS THE DEATH OF HIS MOTHER AND WAS SHINJIS MOTHER ADAM OR SOME SHIT AND DOES THAT MEAN SHINJIS FATHER WHO WAS A HUMAN HAD SEX WITH GOD ADAM SHINJIS MOTHER WHO WAS A GUY AND WHAT DID SHINJIS FATHER EVEN WANT AT THE END TO REJECT INSTRUMENTALITY

Shinji watched his mother "die" by being absorbed into Eva-01's core in an experiment, but his young mind (he was 3-4) forgot or repressed it.

How the fuck do people say Rei is the best girl when she's barely human? If anything Misato is the best girl desu (Asuka is just annoying)

i always thought it meant something being destroyed meant something new can come from it. kinda in keeping with the theme of the series being in order to experience the good in life you have to experience pain. i dunno. the use of "fate" is throwing me off.

It's a highly cultural thing. In Japan, meek and emotionally restrained girls are highly desired, so Anno made a caricature of those traits with Rei. He expected the audience to recognize how silly such a flanderization was, but instead they took to it stronger than ever. This seriously pissed him off, leading to things like Rei's characterization in EoE and Eva 3.0.

Well thanks, that's a pretty solid explanation

Was mistato gonna have sex with sinjin when she tried to grab his hand as he was on the bed?

That's the same question Shinji had. We'll never know

Self Diagnosed EVA expert here to answer your questions.

Attached: congratulations.jpg (1440x1080, 189K)

yes. it's the only way she knows how to comfort people, and so when she tried to console shinji that's all she had in her playbook.

Yes. Watch the desk chair when she sits down on the bed. She was ready for the 14 year old cock, but he had the thot destoyer ready.

Dude.....drugs XD

Eva: A story about an otaku suffering from schizophrenia

Lain: A story about an internet addict suffering from schizophrenia

There, I cleared it up for you.

At the end if instrumentality is rejected and shinji and asuka come out presumably because they have a will to live will all of the rest of humanity come out (including the dead ones like misato) or are shinji and asuka the new Adam and Eve

Also whats the real story behind the production and the creator was he depressed are the religious themes merely surface level and was there serious cash problems towards the end

>Lain: A story about the internet and ????????
Fixed that for you. Nobody really knows what Lan is about.

This

Attached: Screenshot_20190417-175335_Chrome Beta.jpg (1618x407, 309K)

Not that dude but I can answer the last couple. The religious symbolism was for visuals, but there's symbolism about interpersonal relationships and putting up walls that's very prevelant. As for the ending, the original ending was too similar to the Tokyo gas attacks so they scrapped it and didn't have much money left

You mean the ending that ended up being in end of evangelion or a different one?

>that things are just going back to normal ?
Well everyone got turned into tang, experienced a collective consciousness where there were no individual egos, and then got turned back into people because of autism and daddy issues.
