Most combat troops volunteered for service and US presence in Vietnam was overwhelmingly tolerated/supported by the general public for as long as it lasted. Outside of a few isolated incidents, returning troops were not harassed or discriminated against in any significant capacity and you were more likely to be assaulted if you were anti-war than pro-war. The US didn't withdraw because of public opinion, but because it realised it would have to reduce the entire region into a lifeless plane of glass to "win", which would have defeated the entire purpose of securing markets and resources.
