A terribly miscast, toned down, "let's take the general concept of the source and do our own version of it"-tier adaptation of a fucking amazing comic book. Just like Preacher, Punisher, Wanted, RED, Kingsmen and many more.

Erin Moriarty naked will be the best part

not even karl urban can carry this shit

because he's 50

For Garth Ennis to get a paycheck so he can keep doing whatever he wants in comics. As for the show I'll wait and see how far they get with it, no point in watching if it just ends up being cancelled halfway through.

Articles will be published lambasting The Boys as being a misogynistic, far-right power fantasy and how it perfectly encapsulates "Trump's America"; this is what I expect.

Simon Pegg is too old. Pegg himself had an interest in the role but mentioned he was too old

I think they would laud the Boys, actually. In the comic, the superheroes are a misogynistic, far-right power construct perpetuated by an White Protestant military-industrial complex, while the Boys are a group of diverse, ordinary blokes who beat up superheroes because they also took the same cocaine that gave the superheroes their powers.

talentless northern hack

>context mattering to the outrage media

Except the military directly oppose the Superheroes, and the person represented as the best President is one who is a hard former military man, who is a republican. The Boys are partially funded by the military industrial complex to stop the damn heroes from becoming part of the military industrial complex.

Ive mixed feelings about it desu. They turned Sitwell into a woman (never saw the point in genderbending) and theres no way they'll include most of what the original comic had. They'll tone down a lot of shit since the US lives in an outrage era, so no xmen getting diddled, no The Seven fucking up 9/11, no Herogasm, no Batman-Iron-Man humping a meteor, etc etc. So im not too thrilled but im still curious about how they'll do it. I do hope they keep Starlight getting sexually blackmailed by the Seven too, since that plot point was very important despite being wrong on so many levels.

I don't really understand the age perspective. Thanks to the artist(s) throughout the run, wee Hughie doesn't really look that young. Have Pegg pudge up a bit and put some make-up/CGI on his face, and bam, you're good to go.

Me and the boys watching capeKINO

>she'll never rip your face off
Why even live?

Yeah. Pegg is too old for Wee Hughey now. Also, Urban isn't quite as bulky as the old actor Butcher was based on and has facial hair, but he seems to fit.

>Preacher, Punisher
Yeah. Typical watered down Hollywood trash. Preacher in particular seemed horribly paced from the book. They swapped shit around for no reason. Rogan is a fucking hack.
>Red
Meh. Red was a three izsue mini and the movie is pretty much based on the basic concept of it. Ellos gave jo fucks to let the writers just run with it. I enjoy both.
>Wanted, Kingsmen
Mark Millar comics are fucking trash. Still, changing Wanted from supervillians to superspys was dumb. If the superhero boom was a few yrars earlier, they would have kept it..

I hope not, but wouldn't be zurprises.
I am so sick of adaptation meaning "insert our own shit". You only need to adapt for medium and its time slot. Comics shouldn't need major changes to fit a movie and especially not a tv show. Comics are not 1:1 storyboards, but they are still a visual medium that should be easy to simply translate.

Way too old to play the female.

Why are liberal "journalists" so fucking retarded? I say that as a fairly liberal who loves many liberals shows and comics.

That was the whole point of The Boys. We live in a fucked up world run by the likes of the Bushes and the 1%ers. The Boys are out to fight back against the assholes in charge. How do you have a show complain about Bush/Trump's America without showing it for the shithole it is? These idiots need sugar coated fantasies in some leftie utopia as badly as all the biblethumpers who complain about shows being full of degeneracy.

We don't know that the woman in the second trailer was Sitwell. She didn't behave like Sitwell does, since she seemed more advertising and marketing focused than controlling the Seven and keeping them from going out of control.

I feel sorry for Karl Urban.

I'll give it a shot for based Karl, but otherwise I don't have too much in the way of expectations.

He's apparently going to show up as Hughie's dad instead.

>49 years old
Damn. He looks good.

Attached: garth ennis.jpg (3024x3800, 1.04M)

Considering he is an Irishman, he is lucky to be alive at all.

Its the Government who funds the Boys and gives the Nazi invented Super Soldier stuff to give them a Chance against the " Superheros ".

Karl Urban : Boys :: Dominic Cooper : Preacher

This show will be good if it done years back then, now too much sensitive people around it hard to get the most controversial part of the story to air on show.

My issue with it, and many others, is 90% the tone change. From dark and violent to a lot less dark and violent, sometimes even going straight PG-13. RED is about a CIA killer who did shit so nasty that it made the new director straight up vomit when he read the file and thus decided to erase it all. That is the basic concept of the book. The movie is just about retired spies having to fight "one last time". Kick-Ass ends with the kid confessing his love to the girl and she laughs at him, leaves and later even sends him pics of her sucking another dudes dick. In the movie they become a couple. The entertainment industry in general has a terrible track record adapting comic books and i just don't see The Boys being the exception that was Watchmen.

>Damn. He looks good.

49 isn't that much. Tom Cruise is 7 years older than him and looks 10 years younger.

>tfw havent read the comics so ill be able to enjoy the tv show without flipping out on every detail they got wrong

If they don't put this scene in it'll be dogshit

I'm supposed to feel just a wee bit sorry for Homelander by the end of the run, right?

that was a good punisher story though

I can't wait for all the caption porn on imagefap that will be inspired by the show.

>What are people’s expectations?
90% of the original comic changed/censored/toned down

spoiler alert: she actually does it

>I do hope they keep Starlight getting sexually blackmailed by the Seven

Heard they make her snort cocaine instead and then freak her out by telling her it's time for her Seven mandated piss test (hence the part in the trailer with her feet under the stalls.)

>49 years old
>still has the writing of a 16 year old edgelord
comic books writers are really shit-tier.

Rogen and friends making another hurr-durr mess.
Fuck this. Not even going to give it a chance.

That's just fucking banter, what a shit change.

Spoiler alert: she actually loves it

Well, that's just trash then. People want to see the gore and edge, not stupid boner comedy seth rogen humor.

She doesn't and pukes cum afterwards in the women's bathroom in front of not-Wonder Woman, but some issues later she calls out A-Train for having a small penis (she would know because she sucked it) and that's how she gets some attitude.

>she calls out A-Train for having a small penis (she would know because she sucked it) and that's how she gets some attitude
empowering

DOA

Imo Ennis goes so far with gore sex and debauchery it pretty much passes mature and comes back around to being childish. There's a middle ground that would get the point across. I don't however expect seth rogen to be the one to discover it.

>comes back around to being childish
Have you ever taken part in any gore sex and debauchery? For instance gore, you're on Yea Forums, ever been to the rekt threads on /gif/? Some of that shit makes everything Ennis has dreamed up look tame. Same with gang bang rape parties. The shit that some swingers do to get their rocks off, and others that don't consent 100%, is way beyond anything even AVATAR would print. You know what's childish and immature? This youtu.be/rny3UdYPDn0?t=122 This is what they turned the beatdown scene from KA2 into because the comic felt too dark.

I've had a crush on Erin Moriarty since S1 of Verifiable Investigator and thought the comic was pretty good, so with Karl Urban onboard I'm prepared for this to be comfy. Maybe not amazing, but comfy.

Kinda yeah

It's going to be severely toned down, Ennis's works are too edgy for tv

if this man-hating dyke likes it, it's definitely watered down trash. i'll probably watch the first episode just to see how they ruined it.

Attached: stupid cunt.jpg (539x362, 63K)

I'm not saying it's unrealistic, and I understand depicting "diabolical" shit supes get up to. I just think ennis relies on it so much it starts to lose it's effectiveness. It's the difference between stumbling upon a rekt webm vs chilling in a rekt thread.

When Ennis works best for me is when the sex and gore have real ramifications/consequences. I don't mind Herogasm or even Jesus de sade, those kinds of things make perfect sense. But when every single hero team engage in orgies it loses it's shock value. I don't mind excess, obviously but it starts to appeal to the kinds of audience that equate tits and ass with maturity. It's never stopped me from enjoying Ennis work, just feel it lacks some self awareness sometimes.

Jesus Christ I always avoided Kick-Ass 2 but that scene must have been written by a literal retard.

>the boys
>one of them is a girl
DROPPED

that we eventually get a Crossed show

>But when every single hero team engage in orgies it loses it's shock value.

Name a single massively successful band or artist that keeps it clean, that doesn't fuck fans, takes drugs and destroys shit, at least for the first couple years of his career? That's just how people act when they think nobody can stop them.Starlight is probably the purest and kindest character in the whole series and even she gets slowly corrupted.

>being so insecure about being seen as weak that you base your entire review of a show off of one of the female characters looking like a damsel in distress or not
Women are really fragile, hot damn.

Perhaps I'm too idealistic or blind to the baser nature of man but I like to imagine it would be gradient of debauchery. On one hand you would have teams like Superduper who are hopelessly naively optimistic to the point of retardation. On the other, I suppose the seven. but even the seven are well written enough that they have different levels of depraved behavior that don't just include daily orgies. Regardless when they were doing surveillance and the orgies were assumed rather than fully drawn out it was essentially sending the same message.

I don't keep up with many artist but you're definitely correct. Most artist who are clean today have a storied past with drugs, alcohol, etc. I don't imagine supes in this universe surviving long enough to recover so fair point. That's probably why starlight and hughie's story is actually endearing, you want them to make it in this wildly corrupt world. I don't think you lose conveying how fucked up the boys world is by not depicting an orgy with every team is all.

Attached: boyo.jpg (1807x2048, 816K)

>essentially sending the same message
Not it leaves too much to the imagination. Some people imagine a drug fueled orgy as a couple lines of coke, booze with the partaking persons retreating to quiet rooms to fuck. That is just not what Ennis, very obviously, had in mind when he wrote it.

>not depicting an orgy with every team is all
Then the question is, why? Why wouldn't they do whatever they want when nobody can stop them? You have Starlight who believes in the public image of the Seven but then has to face reality. There are absolutely more like her but, as any child, she has to grow up and see the world for what it is.

More of a Hitman fan tbqh

Fair enough, perhaps my problem is a symptom of something else, like the series running a bit long. Ennis proved his point with the excess in 30 some odd issues, and every time after that it just seems tired to me. I don't want to seem like I'm moving the goal posts, you're making me reassess my initial thoughts is all.

Next time I re read the series I'll try and imagine it as a world without rehab or recovery for celebrities then. At least Ennis is far less edgy for edge's sake than Millar, even if he can be incredibly unsubtle it usually has poignant results.

I have two problems with this comic
>lol we're british and fuck merica
This shit is tired.
>everyone in the world is a piece of shit
this is also tired.
It's maximus edgimus. Jupiter's Legacy has a similar concept but there's actually some people in the world who aren't complete scumbags. Hughie and Starlighter alone aren't enough.

I mean, it ends relatively optimistically.
Even the final villain, who shall remain unspoiled, ruins his own plan to save his buddy. Showing that even the most irredeemable piece of shit can do the right thing. The finale shows us that the status quo has changed at that even the evil corporation realises that it can't do the same old shit anymore. It even has a happy couple walking into the sunset.

It's just the road to get to the optimistic vision of the future is paved with razor blades, rape storylines, and George Bush.

I'm only about half way through it now so I might change my mind by the end, but I imagine reading this as it was coming out and I probably would've dropped it.

um sweetie girls can be boys too

I binged the whole thing and to be honest I have a real soft spot for Ennis's unrepentant edge. It has a charm to it I think.

But yeah, being half way through you've got a good few twists and turns to come, the last quarter especially has some really solid stuff in it and I think the ending is pretty fantastic. Hope you don't drop it, dude. I think it is work ticking off at the end of the day.

will they show "homelander" raping that family/and baby and taking pictures of it?

>the exception that was Watchmen

this is what snyderfags actually believe

What about the lady who ran the super dupers. She seemed nice and caring or did she get tired of the debauchery of the old heroes and decided to take care of the special heroes to try and redeem herself.

atleast not every Garth Ennis book will be soiled on tv

Attached: Hitman_Vol_1_11.jpg (500x768, 97K)

I'm not dropping it. I like alternate takes on super society like this and Jupiter's Legacy and Watchmen and Superman Red Son. It's just a bit relentless when it comes to the edge. Also I don't really care much for Hughie. I liked the Soviet guy except for his meme dick and Mother's Milk reminds me of Dutch and every other "too old for this shit" black guy archetype character but I like that archetype.

>muh giant octopus

the lack of octopus was the least of the movie's problems. the fact people think that made the movie better is only proof they're idiots

She was one of my favorite characters outside of the main cast. For as much as super duper was bullied I'm glad they made it out relatively ok. I hope they're adapted at some point. Genuinely refreshing characters in a ennis story.

That superman issue...I Cri Evrytiem

Ennis literally writes like a child

Are there any comics that he's written that can *possibly* change my mind?

The alien monster made sense as much as a naked blue godman or giant purple cat does. Anyone like Snyder who thinks it makes no sense is a fucking moron. That was all part of the world of Watchmen.

The whole point was that something alien would stop the world from fighting amongst itself. It also gave the ending a visceral horror feel. Making some vague 9-11 reference with a giant hole and ashes everywhere from blue energy from Manhattan doesn't work. Snyder thought he was making some kind of smart ending, but it really doesn't work.

Hitman

>Despite his powers, Monaghan relies most on his creativity, improvisational abilities, and impressive gunfighting skills to take down a majority of his targets.

Hmm, I'll give it a shot. TY user
