This is really well directed, shot, written and acted. Weirdly even the sound work is enjoyable

Lately Yea Forums has been shilling Dark, Good Omens and to a lesser extent this. They're all worth seeing but this is the best of the three

>This is really well directed
kys shill

I mainly just like the pacing, and the way that shots are developed over time

Having watched Dark and Good Omens recently they felt like highlight reels and slightly superficial

>dude long pause lmao
>dude stoic expressionless characters lmao
>dude neon lights lmao
>dude incest lmao
kys

holy shit literal garbage
go watch Lynch instead at least you'll fit in here.

You are right OP, it's pretty great
Just some minor stuff like the blood effects looking cheap

fuck refn for not giving us viggo going apeshit on the cartel after finding out about martin

I enjoyed dark more

But we got a slow motion scene of Priestess killing some bad men. SLAY QUEEN.

dude u got subverted XD

Genuine question but how do you think it is well directed? He seems to have given a single sentence of direction to every single actor in the cast, which is 'say stuff in monotone and try to emote as little as possible.' The only exception to this is Episode 5 which felt like a complete anomaly, and it's no wonder it seems to be most peoples favorite.

big yikes from me, dwag

It wasn't until I saw the credits that I realized comic autbor Ed Brubaker co-created this. He makes amazing noir crime comics.

Attached: Criminal-Brubaker-Phillips-Cover.jpg (1449x1100, 166K)

it's really funny too
made me laff

Not OP but it is objectively the best shot thing that Refn has done. The shot composition is consistently incredible. And slow dialogue does not mean simple characters, it's clear that there is a lot going on underneath the surface with Martin and the supporting cast, and there is a lot of well crafted ambiguity that ties in to the themes and genre.

it's really great

i bet you think bresson is bad too
i bet you've actually never heard of him

This show was slightly less boring than watching paint dry. Like golf, its good to put on if you wanna fall asleep quickly

fuck you fags I loved it. anyone have a webm of the tray of perfume bottles?

ok michael bay

anyone got a webm of the slow shot revealing damian's hands on the floor?

Thank you for reminding me about this

I agree with everything except the writing. It’s garbage.

t. wetback

idris elba.

don't bother posting about this on nu Yea Forums. 90% of people here can't enjoy any tv show that doesn't have all the conventional plot points and character arcs that every lowest common denominator show has

It's pretentious trash

if this is the depth of someone's criticism about a piece of media you can be sure that piece of media has a lot of merit

But the show has character arcs. The problem is that the characters are trash, like Priestess of Death and Jesus are terrible. It's just annoying and cringe inducing when Refn tries to portray every character as some kind of badass. Viggo and Martin well pretty good.

this.

What was EVERYONES fucking problem?

Lancelot Du Lac is a favorite of mine. I don't see what relevance it has here though, unless you really think Refn's vapid bullshit is similar. This seems to be the argument made in every TOTDY thread, which is that if you don't like TOTDY then it means you dislike every single other relatively slow paced, quiet film, as if sharing a few qualities makes all of these films (or show) the exact same and unable to be criticized individually. Grow up, this show was dogshit.

>like Priestess of Death and Jesus are terrible
Priestess of Death was shit and miscast I agree
Jesus was a based retard

They're pedophiles. they find the show very offensive.

I mean the characters in the shadow
What are their PROBLEMS

Attached: 1497421920605.jpg (892x666, 136K)

in the show
every single one what's wrong with them

I'm a big fan of Refn's work, even Only God Forgives, but this feels like he was given three times the amount of runtime he needed and had to pace it three times as slow to fill it. I actually find myself blanking out wishing the camera would fucking MOVE and get its eighteenth establishing pan over with so someone can speak. I watched episode 2 and the entire episode could have been 20 minutes, instead it is FUCKING 96 MINUTES of Jesus mourning his mother and his uncle dying.

>stoic expressionless characters
You idiots betray yourself. You havent watched the show.

This show has really exposed the plebs who watch for the plot

Jesus was one of the best character portrayals on TV. Funniest also.

>FASCISM
???

Why all Refn protagonists have autism?

This is what I wanted

>supermillionaire accepted to all ivies genius daughter goes out with murdering 30 year old cop
?

self-insert for Refn

Is City On A Hill good? It seems really pretentious.

This is some good shit though can't wait to see what refn has in store next

the mexico episodes are boring

dude the city is moral black gangbangers are moral, country hicks are pure evil nazis LMAO

yikes my dog

you've posted this garbage take in almost everyone one of these threads, my man.

the cartel episodes are my favourites

>it's a doctor Venture is a guy who films young boys getting raped episode

Attached: doctor venture smug.jpg (259x194, 8K)

I posted that before despite just watching the ep right now?

the show ends at 8 episode, dont bother watching the last 2.

Episode 7 was pretty funny.

> my make believe stories faggot is better than yours make believe stories faggot.

pathetic.

Attached: 1560995853972.jpg (538x960, 54K)

Refn literally said this show is about how evil donald trump is and how only woman can save this terrible world he has created.

Attached: 1541867410852.jpg (640x654, 51K)

>googled Bresson and dropped in a random film as a 'favorite'
OH NO NO NO

Just finished the show, this is accurate

every shot was more pretentious than the previous one. I was crying tears of laughter because just when I thought there couldn't be anymore self indulgent cinematographic wankery, he outdid himself again.

Oh no!

Miles Teller is by far the best Hollywood's young actor. Too bad he lacks good looks and allegedelly makes troubles in the set.

refn has also said that he tried to shoot his mother in law

I don't believe I can take anything Refn says at face value.

>it's pretentious because it's nice to look at

does anyone have a link to that interview where the two commentators walk out and refn just stares at the camera? I always wanted to know the context.

thinking your stuff is so good that it doesn't need a sensible narrative is pretentious my dude

>This is really well directed, shot, written and acted. Weirdly even the sound work is enjoyable.
100% wrong
>Lately Yea Forums has been shilling Dark, Good Omens and to a lesser extent this. They're all worth seeing
>They're all worth seeing
Still wrong

the narrative in this is clear as day

ending pissed me off. couldn't care less about all the mexican stuff.

martin/viggo ending was so fucking anti-climatic. pissed me off

>and allegedelly makes troubles in the set
like what? Legitimately curious, he was weirdly endearing to me in this show

Except the show itself contradicts that.

>viggo ending
>underwhelming
BUT MUH PLOT

Does Amazon ever put out its stuff physically? What are the odds of this getting a Blu-Ray release?

Also this. This is Refn's magnum opus

I don't think their other stuff has physical releases, I hope they make an exception for this since they didn't promote it like they do usually either

but it's bad

the fuck this thread is still alive?

Refn is garbage deal with it shill

shit taste desu

>main protag dies unheroicly
i guess there is still vigo

They're just people. We all live in sin

What is the song that is always playing in scenes with Damien?

>People actually discussing a film or a show? NOOOOOOO THE TRAGEDY!You see the catalog and this is what pisses you off? Not the other hundreds of off-topic and spam sneed and porn threads? Honestly, what the fuck?

Instead we get Nazi trailer park pedos, incest and VR Goggle masturbating.

i like the little flute chant stinger thing that plays when viggo and neon demon hang out together

Did Barry Jenkins direct this?

Am I really supposed to sit through all mexican episodes? I don't want to spend my time reading subtitles as I do other shit while watching.

Do I miss much by skipping them?

Attached: 1542940855411.jpg (483x643, 104K)

not the best bait but you can have a (You)

Attached: 1550677230562.jpg (680x813, 70K)

Skip away. There's as much continuity as a Family Guy episode. You're not missing anything.

>doesn't need a sensible narrative
Only plebs watch for plot

Usually its Prince Buster

The whole series is fantastic. The first episode is a bit clunky. And obvious there's lots to say about the last 2 episodes.
But everything in between is straight up brilliant. It actually felt like a string of films. Like he made the spiritual sequel to Drive/Only God Forgives and 4 sequels at the same time

the same Refn that said he made The Neon Demon because he wanted to see what it's like to be a beautfiul 16 year old girl.

*beautiful

Thinking about it rationally, one of two things would have happened
>Viggo literally murders them all and we essentially get capeshit pretending to be something serious
>Or, Viggo tries and gets killed early on
Either way, it wouldn't be that interesting to watch

>Episode 5 which felt like a complete anomaly
Seriously? Dude, you're fucking retarded. Episode 5 is identical to the rest of the series. It even has a car chase where ten minutes of it is them driving casually and listening to the radio

I think episode 2 is the biggest pleb filter of the year the more I think about it.

>believing a word that comes out of Refn's mouth
Nic plays a fictional character in public settings for marketing reasons. It's really fucking obvious and he basically confirmed it in one interview for The Neon Demon

Would be flawless if not for the last scene, where they fucked up.

You mean the way Jesus is walking the wrong direction?
I still can't figure that out. It's so noticeable and blatant that I feel I must be missing something

Viggo would probably kill Martin if he found out the truth.

*growls at you*

Attached: billy baldwin.png (1261x791, 916K)

Yeah. Nah, the scene is just badly executed. I thought the same thing after watching it for the first time.

Also the cgi blood effects are weird and gay

>why didn't Refn just actually shoot those actors?

why didn't Refn try harder than your average amateur filmmaker on youtube?

lol, I enjoyed the series but it's exactly this...90% of the footage is extremely slow zooms or panning shots of characters with static and mostly stoic expressions.

it's dishonest incel 101. no wonder this board loves it and gets mega triggered when you point out how vapid and shallow they are.
