Breaking Bad already nailed the pacing and character development. It gave itself enough room to breathe and let things happen so that the change felt gradual but definitive.

Saul is a case of Gilligan crawling up his own ass and taking a good concept but swinging the pendulum too far the other way into a molasses like experience.

The story is good, the characters are mostly good, and, if condensed by ~30% would be where it needs to be.
