>makes anime
>hates it
he's a strange fellow

japs are all pretentious dickheads

Filmmakers are assholes, not animators

Do you mean based?

He just ran around bossing all the actual animators like a jap Ralph Bakshi.

I use this clip all the time in my courses. It's a perfect demonstration on why you should know your audience and be thoroughly prepared when proposing new things to them.

The idea behind the tech demo was that ML/AI can be useful to inspire artists in ways that nature cannot. What they ended up communicating was "huhuhuhuh machine 2 replayce u XDDDD"

Of course Miyazaki, who is already legendary for being averse to new technology, was going to react this way.

>everyone in the room puckers their asshole when Miyazaki begins his response by checking his watch

>jap childrens cartoon
>there are monsters/ghosts all over the place, go and catch them
>american cartoon
>it's actually about dating in your 20s the aliens are a metaphor to vagina and the vampire is actually a lesbian all along
the ugly pastel color don't help

He almost strikes me like the anime equivalent to a guy like Alan Moore. By that, I mean a dude who has made a bunch of beloved classic works, but just comes off as a bitter old man who hates everyone and everything, including fans of his work.

>seething weeb
Japs are literal perv nation

do you have a point?

It's a talented and inspired thing, OP, you wouldn't understand. No matter how hard you wish you could.

He just seemed butthurt over his friend

>make films
>turns into an industry churning out cheap tv shows to sell merchandise to losers

can you blame him

Miyazaki is undoubtedly a sociopath but he's probably the greatest single traditional animator alive, and the greatest director of traditional animation to ever live
objective truths
the man used to animate entire sequences on his own that would usually take teams of several animators the same time to complete. With higher quality and while bringing in new techniques from abroad.
His movies have been all downhill since Laputa, though

Yeah, and reading into Miyazaki's work, you can tell he's a huge vitalist and really believes in and love the pulsating life in all things. Having some cold, dead gibbering abomination crawling across the screen isn't exactly going to warm his heart.

yes. he's very similar to Moore. An incredible talent that doesn't really understand... himself

(And that's a good thing)

at least he still likes foreign fans and children

That's where his mind wandered first because he clearly wasn't warned about what he was about to see or given a proper context.

I wonder what happened to the bumbling guy who proposed the "zombie" AI. Miyazaki is as close to a living god in Japan and this was nationally televised.

based kiryu

No

>I wonder what happened to the bumbling guy who proposed the "zombie" AI.
Do you know a Japanese website “nico nico”? That guy made it. He was also the president of Kadokawa. He's fine.

Shin Godzilla looks sweet.

>Lord of the rings is about white peoples love for killing blacks and asians.

Sure forgot that shit your people did in China and Korea pretty fast eh sensei?

This guy probably remembers days when Japanese men would rather kill themselves than lose face and honor. No wonder he is spiteful and disjointed with his modern audience which is unable to move on and detach themselves from escapism, constantly seeking more of it while becoming neets and otakus. WHILE also seeing that the industry as a whole has gone to hell as it's deeply dependent on money of autistic incels who fap to loli porn.

I think he's talked about the modern animation industry in Japan. Something like he sees really socially inept men making these outrageous human interactions that almost seem alien because the show creators don't know how to talk to other humans themselves

So he’s an aging normie. Oof.

>This guy probably remembers days when Japanese men would rather kill themselves than lose face and honor.

He was a communist when he was younger and part of the japanese counter culture that rejected traditional values so I doubt it. Studio Ghibli also produced Grave of the Fireflies and the entire movie is about the author regretting not swallowing his pride and asking for help.
I think he probably suffers from cognitive dissonance as Ghibli sells a shit ton of merchandise. also in general he is just a pretentious old fart

Attached: Grave-of-the-Fireflies-Hero-Image.jpg (1600x867, 139K)

He's a big fucking commie so whatever.

he's not wrong, though. the only thing modern animators seem to have learned from miyazaki was how to animate hair blowing in the wind.

In his head his perfect viewer is probably a guy with 3 kids, house and successful career who finds a bit of time to go to cinema and watch an animated movie with his kids just to unwillingly be sucked in by the experience which brings back nostalgic memories of his childhood and makes him deeply humbled as he reflects on those thoughts and then goes back to being a constructive member of society.

>China and Korea
it's all so tiresome

his perfect viewers are children. he's been very vocal about this.

i hate anime, including that evangelion piece of shit, but i liked the 2 of this crusty asian dude's films that i remember seeing, which are Spirited Away and Howe's Moving Castle.

> went their own paths instead of mindlessly aping le wise old master
Pretty based if you ask me

>he's not wrong

Really? You honestly think some computer algorithm is an insult to life itself? Pull your ass out of your head, or out of myazakis. He got triggered by a creepy AI animation, which kinda proves that there is something there if it can draw raw emotions out of people.

Any non pretentious ass hat would had just said "Well I have no use for this but I can see how this tool could be used in others work" The problem here is that they gave the ass hat too much credit and assumed he could judge things objectively.

>went their own paths
>+30 seasonal anime shows
>maybe 1 a year has consistently good animation quality and a story to match

more isn't better, just my hot take

that has nothing to do with what i said or the post i responded to, but keep seething pretentiousfag

how do myazakis vowels smell like?

no, only the ones that live in your head

moving castle is one of his weakest works (empty thematically, just a fantasy ride w/ style over substance)
His best works would include those that have historical connection to reality and human history w/ some miraculous/surreal twist to it, like Mononoke Hime or Porco Rosso.
SA is really good, tho.

The truth is that Japan is a depressing country of workaholics who never take a day off so in order to not kill themselves whole Japanese generations created this notion that manual, physical work is somehow a humbling and sophisticated experience so when you're a Japanese woodblock printer you're somehow better than a machine that can do same thing hundred times faster because you put love and effort into it. Loads of their "experience" in craftsmanship boils down to petty nuances like tapping on wood before cutting it or using 4 strokes when painting instead of 3. Ofc upon seeing the pointlessness of your outdated, old fashioned ways that you tried to surround by the notion of prestige Miyazaki can only cope

>The problem here is that they gave the ass hat too much credit and assumed he could judge things objectively.
It's not like he goes to other studios and say “it's shit”, though. It was like some super rich guys presented AI stuff for miyazaki's project.
They know he is not a person who “could judge things objectively”

Also he doesn't talk much about “anime”. He doesn't even watch them.

URUSAI

The truth is you don't really know about Japan in general

i'm not sure that analogy quite fits here. miyazaki isn't to animation as wood block is to industrial printing.

we've seen what happens when animators try to automate things with digital tech. it's all these netflix original animes that are 3d CGI masquerading as anime. and no one likes those.

Meh, it happens. I make video games and I think playing vidya is a complete waste of time.

Herbivore man

tell me more

Uh Sweetie didgital doesnt mean it has to be 3d. Ghibli uses plenty od figital animation.

this - let the art simmer a bit, don't automate it to the point of it turning into fast food industry

both sound terrible to me

i know you're trolling but what does that have to do with what i said? the consummate digital animation techniques used well (e.g., the flower scene from spirited away) are not widely used in anime. 3dcgi shit is. entire studios are built on it.

not to break the spell, but the studio has been using some computer animation shortcuts since late 90s
youtu.be/dlGuxJJWw20?t=258 (skip to 4:18)

>the presenters literally say that it's for unsettling imagery and horror that mocks what humans naturally do
>he calls it an insult to life anyway when that's literally what they were going for
Miyazaki is a purist just like Chuck Jones and John K.

He has never said he hates anime, though. He just criticizes almost everything that wasn't made by him when he has a chance. He even criticized grave of fireflies, saying it's a lie.

he has every right to do so - very few nippon feature-length cartoons could break through the "unwatchable schlock'' barrier and click so strongly with humane part of the worldwide audience on emotional level

Why would you show Miyazaki that of all things? It's like showing an old church lady porn.

They got what they deserved.

>TECHNOLOGY BAD
>NATURE GOOD

Well, I don't think that's the case for him

He hates many things such as Japan, America, China, iphone, modern cars, restaurants, Akira, Ghost in the shell, dog lovers, star wars, the road of the ring, capitalism, etc

You play stupid games.

Get Miyazaki'd

this, but unironically
youtube.com/watch?v=j-788Upky2Y

i like akira and love the shit out of GitS (except the episodes), but I totally can see the source of frustration.
First one has exquisite animation and Gits have top-notch score and story/concept... Couldn't give less of a fuck about a single character in them.
The other things don't need explanation for why they suck at certain elements.

Let the old man sulk - he's a jaded perfectionist that sees every lazy child a lost opportunity for not being trained to love hard work as much as he does.

remidner that all the best ghibli movies were the ones miyazacki was not in

I really respect him.

is princess mononoke worth a watch?

like would it make my dad beat my ass if he saw me watching it because some panty shot of a little girl is playing at the moment?

He's very good, it's just that people like Isao Takahata were the missing puzzle piece.

are you 15 / jew? there's no pantsu shot, but a crapload of blood and body horror in few scenes

>Use to watch these with my ex
It’s just not the same watching them on my own.

I strongly feel this board is an insult to life itself.

I love all the Redditors running around saying how IQ is a nonsense because of his existence or that he's fake because he's not as euphoric as they are.
>is princess mononoke worth a watch?
I'd argue it's the best animated movie.

>makes the most renowned animu and one of the most influential modern games
What is Miyazaki's secret?
