Essentially, AD doesn't stray too far from standard sitcom writing for the general beats. Usually there's an A/B(sometimes C) plot and surprisingly, most episodes end with a character learning something thereby giving the audience resolution to a moral quandary presented by a catalyzing situation near the start of the episode. Within that framework, the writers consistently hammer out a good mixture of absurdist humor, wordplay, visual gags, and inside jokes that don't overstay their welcome. FG could easily achieve the same level of quality as AD, but Family Guy writers suck and many of the FG characters have become insufferable. Say what you want about AD, but none of the characters are outright unlikable.

I thought they were surely done for after the initial TBS episodes hit and the jokes were meh. But the new stuff has been really good.

My dad was listening to AD when I was watching it and he was in the other room and he's laughed at these lines and others like them. That to me shows that AD has a much more conventional style of humour at it's core, rather than the nihilist, non-sequitur stuff in most modern comedies (like Family Guy), otherwise there's no way my old man would be laughing at it

I really think Roger is one of the best written modern comedy characters. His VA is so solid and lands all of his lines.

Better writers who take more chances. First three seasons of Family Guy were really ingenious and then it got stale and retread the same jokes very quickly. AD's writers have never continued to beat a dead horse. Plus AD has Roger who can transform into dozens of characters.

"abraham h" is such a good joke

The voice acting is simply superior and it makes the jokes land much harder. Everyone does a fantastic job, even side characters. They also have a good sense of pacing where as FG writers absolutely do not.
