GRRM prides himself in writing about the human condition. Having a character (that's been around from the beginning) fall at the very end because of "madness" or shitty genes removes all agency the character ever had (not to mention is no different from "God did it" narrative that GRRM hates). Even if genes are an actual plot point, the show defines mad as "burning people alive as punishment" and hardly any other violent occurrence.
The show also has a bipolar portrayal of morality. Tywin burning Riverland towns is fine, Cersei blowing up the pope + queen reagent is fine, Jon faces no political repercussions from bringing Wildings in after the BotB is over. Only when Daenerys does anything is when the show stacks everyone against her.

I think Sansa being Queen in The North is D&D fanfiction, but if George actually intends for the North to be independent, he has written himself into a gigantic hole .

I'm thinking Bran will stop being a POV once he makes the shift to being the Three Eyed Raven. The show made me feel like once he makes it back to Winterfell, we'll only get to read about how people perceive him.
