Japanese as a language is structured differently than English and other Indo-European languages. When you watch a movie in French, there's a correlation between what's being said and what you're reading - inflection, emphasis, etc, are given at the same moments and in the same ways. Compare this to listening to something in Japanese. You get almost *nothing* out of listening to Japanese. It's just noise. It might as well not even be there.
That's the point of dubbing Asian language films.

It's primarily that verbs ALWAYS go at the end of a sentence or relative clause that is using a verb. The purpose of other words and clauses in the sentence that lead up to that verb, are indicated by "particles" and don't necessarily have a strict order

That's how it's supposed to be. Dub scripts are more limited because they need to consider line length and to make stuff sync up with the animation(lip flaps in most cases). In the process accuracy sometimes needs to be sacrificed because they jsut can't fit the proper translation in the limit they have for syllables. Subs don't have such limitations and they can have a much more faithful translation. If you see subs that are exactly the same as the dub script fro translated media it means they were lazy and the sub is likely shit.

I mean according to your own logic they didn't make the series with little words on the bottom they want you to glance at every 10 seconds. Anime is an audio-visual medium. When you watch it in a language you don't understand you are replacing the audio portion of the show with what is essentially white noise if you don;t understand Japanese.

As someone that only watches Eva subbed, the dub isn't too shabby. Shinji could sound a bit more masculine but he fits more than original dub. I'm pissed about Fly Me to the Moon though, they could have at least licensed one cover, preferably Claire's.

Dubbed anime was cheaper to buy when I was a kid so I consumed it all that way. The Eva tapes were like $19 vs $29 if you bought subbed.

I watch dubs because it makes it easier to connect with the character and their emotions. Like if the voice actor put emphasis on a certain word or said it with a certain tone, that would basically be lost when reading subs.
Also all animation is dubbed over anyways, if it was live action I would watch it with subs.

Why would I need the inflection to be in the right order? Doesn't make sense. Japanese verbs come at the end of sentences, while in English it's closer to the beginning and we often end on nouns, so I guess you're referring to that. But it doesn't take much brain power to hear the character yell at the end of the sentence and understand the full sentence is meant for that same tone.

The fly me to the Moon rights holders could have had a distribution exclusivity contract with Funimation, meaning the only localized versions of the show with the song would have to come from them. At that point it's completely out of the hands of Netflix and more the problem of the song holder for not having any foresight past their current contract.

The mexican spanish dub of the simpsons is literally better than the actual show.
They add extra jokes and fix things that dont translate well.
It gives it a different feel and it really is for the better, especially the episodes after the golden era

Ritsukos reaction is different tonally, in the original dub she exhibits shock and denial when she spits out "liar" at him. In the new dub, it falls completely flat like who cares.

Personally I like the theory that Gendo's words were "I needed you" so the new dub makes zero sense for these words

The original Japanese best translates to "I truely am" though

"honto ni..." best translates as "I truely..."

The new wording really limits the response he could have given, it sounds like he's leading up to an apology

The japanese title it translates isn't conversational either. The original translation preserves the tone and literal meaning but "another ceiling I don't recognize" does neither

I think the tone of voice isnt that different. I think this may be more of an issue with Chinese. Ive probably watch 200 different anime and if you listen without subs guessing emotions isnt that hard.
