>Shinjis friends and other C list characters like Nerv employees are all a drastic improvement over their original voice actors >Shinji himself actually sounds 14. His screams are as good, but I think that's a fair trade off for more convincing characterization >Misato is probably my least favorite change. Her voice is similar but the new actress doesn't have the same high energy charisma as the original >Most other characters, especially Gendo sound so close to their original VA I don't even see why they bothered replacing them. There were a couple times during their scenes I forgot I was watching a new dub at all >So far the dialog is completely intact. Any changes made are small and in consequential, inclusing changing "I'm so fucked up" to "I'm the lowest of the low" (as I have been told, I'm not there yet) >No Fly Me to the Moon is easily the worst sin the new dub has made
It's not perfect, but overall an improvement in a lot of aspects. I think either version of the show is serviceable for someone's first watch through.
If you're okay with 'I'm the lowest of the low' you'll be okay with a lot of shitty changes. Nobody talks like that. 'I'm so fucked up' is much closer to what a real person would say. 'I'm the lowest of the low' is very obviously a third-party judgement of the character and not the character themselves noticing they're messed up.
Julian Collins
Holy fucking shit, he really says that instead of "I'm so fucked up"? What the FUCK.
Christian Thomas
The part that confuses me is that, if they wanted to go for a more literal translation, they could’ve just left it at “I’m the lowest.” It would still sound a little weird but it would be a whole lot better than what we got.
Jacob Perry
That sounds even worse imo
Nathan Roberts
The odd thing is, while they kind of mean the same thing, it just isn't something someone would say about themselves in English at all. It's something someone would say about someone else. It's the kind of nuance you wouldn't expect a native speaker to miss, and even if it's a direct translation, it's not something you can translate directly. The closest to that specific phrase someone would use is 'Me at my lowest' or 'this is my lowest point'. Having a character say 'I'm the lowest of the low' is like having them unironically say 'I'm worse than Hitler'.
Jacob Sullivan
*laughs in torrented bluray*
Levi Smith
gotta avoid that R rating so the kids can watch
Christopher Myers
Something about that Netflix wasn't able or didn't want to license the music
Grayson Gutierrez
'That's a kind of rape!' didn't seem off? Someone would never say that. 'You little perv!' would make a lot more sense.
Lincoln Gray
I never understood why someone would watch a dub in the first place. It's a japanese series written with japanese voices in mind. Are reading subtitles that hard? Not even a weeb, it just seems like an American thing to watch dubbed anime.
Lincoln Gonzalez
What do they use in place of this during the Misato crying scene?
Grayson Campbell
Same reason why people in Germany watch marvel movies with a German dub instead of reading subtitles
Levi Hill
Imagine shilling for Netflix, for free
Michael Ortiz
What's the reason then? Being an idiot?
Lucas James
Japanese as a language is structured differently than English and other Indo-European languages. When you watch a movie in French, there's a correlation between what's being said and what you're reading - inflection, emphasis, etc, are given at the same moments and in the same ways. Compare this to listening to something in Japanese. You get almost *nothing* out of listening to Japanese. It's just noise. It might as well not even be there. That's the point of dubbing Asian language films.
Blake Allen
Same as Mexicans watching the dubbed version of The Simpsons
Not everyone is a tryhard nerdy faggot like you. Do you watch Godzilla undubbed? You fucking faggot
When asked, people usually say "i'm too lazy to read subtitles". Dubs is just localization and destroys the tone/context/message in some way and some people like it that way I guess
Gabriel Stewart
>Not everyone is a tryhard nerdy faggot like you. you are on a board dedicated to appreciation of television and film. just say you are a pleb and slow so you can't read fast and good
Nicholas Diaz
But so does looking away from the screen to read text
They don't, they watch it in English with German subtitles. Most Europeans already speak English.
Evan Phillips
Fucking appalling
Isaac Ross
I live in Germany and can confirm that this is true maybe 40 percent of the time.
The majority of theatrical showings are a German dub
Jose Wright
>Looking away from the screen Literally your brain interprets the text in a nano-second without actually reading every single word. You'd know this if you grew up watching TV with subs like all of Europe.
Owen Hill
>bragging about being too unimportant for anyone to bother dubbing a movie into your language. Fucking europe, man, I'll tell you.
Levi Clark
it is because it literally sounds worse. I don't understand why people like subs when its like whiney men and whiney chink insect voices. Cowboy bebop and Berserk sound way better in english and you know it.
Camden Allen
Indeed
Luis Jones
Shinji is a tranny lol
Samuel Lewis
If you want your cartoons in English, watch Steven Universe lol
She says "Stop peeking, you stupid letch! Why is it all boys are idiots and so horny all of the time?" No mention of rape.
Hudson Gutierrez
I watched both subbed and dubbed Eva but circumstances dictated that I saw the dubbed version first so when I picture Eva in my head that’s who I hear I generally prefer subs though (especially with live action media) original performances are almost always superior
Landon Fisher
Don't have time to watch random cartoons to see if I'll like them
Brandon Sanders
Oh. I guess it's just another case of Yea Forums lying to push an agenda
Aiden Garcia
Weird cope but I’ll accept it
Andrew Edwards
they no-homo'd Shinji and Kaworu
Michael Nelson
Sounds redpilled
Dominic Edwards
Was there ever any lawsuit for the fact that Decisive Battle is LITERALLY 007 Takes The Lektor. I've never read anything about Eva paying for the rights to it. youtube.com/watch?v=BKCEiNk198E youtube.com/watch?v=YRKdPeHOb28 I can understand it going under Eon's radar in the mid 90s but you think they'd have gone for some money by now, especially with this Netflix deal.
Christian Mitchell
this
William Reyes
>Bayonetta gets it for both games >netflix can't even get the original sound track just watch the bluray rips
Tyler Wright
Not a fan that some text is translated and some isn't
Brayden Sanders
>watching dubbed
Landon Long
>actual well thought out post >completely ignored Typical
Christian Edwards
Shinji sounds like a 30 year old woman but then again it's a tranny
Juan Kelly
You might be listening to the original
Ethan Hall
that’s how he sounded in the original dub too
Jason Ortiz
I don't get it.
Ian Howard
he's trying to shitpost that japanese doesn't have tone
No one asked. We’ve ALL seen Evangelion 25 years ago here.
Logan Walker
I don't know, that other user said it was a very smart post so I believed him.
Bentley Barnes
That is unbelievablly retarded.
William Smith
Why does left look so much better than right?
Ryder Williams
What I got from it is basically Japanese is spoken “backwards” compared to English so what you’re reading on screen is necessarily what you’re hearing
Easton Anderson
soul
Landon Reyes
Thanks.
No I'm not, brainlet. I'm pointing out that Japanese has a very different tone and structure than English, so listening to it adds almost nothing.
Caleb Smith
is not necessarily**
Ayden Nguyen
I'm not interested in anime but I'm curious. is this a new version?, as in modern new animation and everything redone except the story is the same? or is this the exact same old cartoon with no changes except they hired diferent voice actors for the english dub?
Nicholas Cook
Exactly.
Mason Howard
But that's bullshit, there is no correlation between French and English either, barring basic sentences like "I am a retard" or "How are you?". The moment you try make a more complex sentence, shit goes out the window.
Lincoln Miller
The latter
Daniel Harris
>Gendo sound so close to their original VA I don't even see why they bothered replacing them Gendo's OG actor had some sort of argument with ADV people, so he was replaced in director's cut episodes and rebuilds. He is now writing furry porn.
I prefer the new piano. Not everyone liked Fly Me to the Moon. I personally found it nauseating.
Easton Phillips
Same reason why they made a shot for shot remake of the force awakens 40 years after the fact: more bankable.
Hunter Barnes
autism
Julian Gomez
I guess. I knew what the user was getting at but honestly I stopped giving a shit about this whole conversation to argue anymore
Jonathan Robinson
The old dub rights belonged to a different company, Funimation, who don't work with Netflix. Same reason the subtitled version is retranslated too.
It was either a new dub or nothing
Aaron Bailey
why did they add an extra can?
Connor Myers
Christ, it's like vinyl records vs MP3. The resolution and sharpness of the right image may be technically superior, but the left is so much more lively, organic, and has vastly superior contrast.
Luis Powell
fair enough.
Robert Reed
I don't like the Japanese language when it's coming out of predominantly female and young male characters the entire show. It sounds over dramatic and distracting at that pitch.
Ryder Thompson
Is the blu ray better than the platinum release?
Jeremiah Russell
Which Bluray release are we talking? I thought that ADV dvds were the newest
Jace Jenkins
>akira is my favorite annie >watches porn literal brainlet normie degenerate, no wonder you want dubs. not to mention obviously you arent familiar with japanese cinema since youre not used to the language. you unironically made me angry and seething. kys
Justin Cox
It's primarily that verbs ALWAYS go at the end of a sentence or relative clause that is using a verb. The purpose of other words and clauses in the sentence that lead up to that verb, are indicated by "particles" and don't necessarily have a strict order
Nathan Bell
Fpbp
Jose Flores
The series had a blu ray release in Japan.
Jaxson Bell
Right, so the only ones with subs are the dvds? On a disc, at least
Connor Flores
I torrent anime so it doesn’t matter, since the subs are usually added. I figured someone here would have torrented the BD version.
But only retards and normies (=retards) watch the German dubs...
Eli Lee
Don't the people who direct the dub or the people in charge of the purchase care about stuff like this or is it literally just some suit who gets told what's popular by a focus team?
Henry Williams
I don't find this a problem at all, except when they say "no" and it sounds like "yeah"
Angel Lewis
Go away, Netflix
Matthew Gutierrez
This is true
Joshua Murphy
Fly Me to the Moon is an extremely famous song and very expensive to license. It's the same reason why The Wonder Years does not include With a Little Help from My Friends in any current version.
Michael Howard
Based Cringe
Josiah Martinez
How’s the intro?
Oliver Ramirez
Subbed Godzilla is the only way to watch though
Colton Gray
old people mostly that can't read good or young illiterates
Evan Jenkins
They cut out all the naked children that were in the original. Anime is fucking disgusting.
Samuel Allen
Imagine being a fucking Netflix fanboy on a Laotian Tea Forum. You're an embarrassment kiddo.
thats anecdotal at best if I'm reading the subs and listening along I don't feel that at all
Jacob Adams
I just like dubs because I'm interested in seeing how a foreign production company interprets the script and how they manage the "square peg in a round hole" problem of scripting, the technicalities of that stuff and trying to pick it out of the finished product is more interesting to me than watching a show I've already seen in a language I still don't understand
What the fuck do I do now? I was planning on spending the next few days watching the new dub since I've never actually seen it in English outside of a couple scenes, but I don't think I could bear it with the translation and outro changes.
Is the original dub worth watching if you're already intensely familiar with the Jap subs? I've never liked the bits I've seen from it but I've heard it gets better. At least I'd be able to focus on the art more since I won't have to read any subs.
Elijah Lewis
>Removed the I'm so fucked up and baloney pony lines Trash
Tyler Brown
>What the fuck do I do now? Post about anime in the anime board.
Noah Miller
This is the only anime I like though.
Nicholas Kelly
Biggest complaint about the new dub is that it doesn't sync up with the subtitles. I like watching things with subtitles on, even if they're speaking English. The subs not syncing to the dialog really bugs me. OCD? Autism? No idea but fuck.
>translated things to what the characters actually said Oh no!
Ryan Long
gendo's original was ok and they hired someone familiar with german to voice asuka but the same dub rules apply in that tone and some dialogue is changed for localization
Elijah Rivera
I don't remember asking.
Sebastian Bennett
This isn't the only Netflix show that does that and it drives me crazy
Hudson Evans
The original dub is pretty enjoyable as long as you're willing to accept some of the typical localization tendencies of the era
Jordan Robinson
Rule fucking 1 of translating any artistic work is to be wary of being too literal. A good translator will know when and where to make those changes to retain the essence of the original. Autists don't make good translators and that's clearly who they hired for the new dub and subs.
Luis Evans
I've noticed that so just Netflix being lazy.
Leo Williams
I have never seen this, where can I get it with original voices and subs?
Brandon James
>thus level of netflix shilling Go dilate tranny
Joseph Rogers
I don't know if it's a laziness thing. Just that the subs and dub use different dialog
That's how it's supposed to be. Dub scripts are more limited because they need to consider line length and to make stuff sync up with the animation(lip flaps in most cases). In the process accuracy sometimes needs to be sacrificed because they jsut can't fit the proper translation in the limit they have for syllables. Subs don't have such limitations and they can have a much more faithful translation. If you see subs that are exactly the same as the dub script fro translated media it means they were lazy and the sub is likely shit.
Jeremiah Adams
Netflix clearly cheaped out. >didn't bother to license the music >some of the dialogue sounds like it was just run through Google Translate
Jason Kelly
IS THERE A COMPARISON VIDEO?
I only ever watched like 3 eps over the last 5 years and kept restarting the show switching from dub to sub so many times
I thought subs>dubs anyways? why is everyone throwing such a fit over it. Anyways what version should i watch?
Christopher Bell
>I thought subs>dubs anyways? In the case of EVA yes That's not universally true (example: Cowboy Bebop)
Nobody buys this, Netflix. He was whiny and annoying, but that's what teenage boys sound like.
Ethan Wright
this thats why you can tell a good dub from a bad easily minus just listening to the VA's of course
John Wilson
damn it
Ryder Smith
imagine being the person eating it up
Sebastian Nelson
>decide to watch the old German dub cause someone here said it's good >Gendo has the same voice actor as Jack O'Neill from Stargate Ah, the joys of growing up with German dubs.
Carson Kelly
I don't want logical answers, I want my subtitles synched to my dub, dammit! Just gonna watch it subbed.
Parker Scott
Ironically, dumbass, if I were autistic I wouldn't be able to tell those nuances. Go shill for you paymasters somewhere else.
Blake Mitchell
truly an autist
Jayden Allen
Watched the first 2 episodes. The new voice actors I suppose I could get used to, but is it too much to ask for them to try to sound a little excited during the battle scenes? Hearing Ritsuko flatly state 'an AT field' as if she's commentating a snooker match really kills the whole vibe.
Carter Rogers
It gets better later on
Ian Morgan
>Gendoh
Logan Edwards
I think it's time for live action Evangelion
Samuel Bell
That is not remotely how autism works. You fail to notice cues in language and culture, you don't become more aware of them.
Landon Jenkins
yeah, ritsuko is the only voice that really sounds off to me. her original voice and tone just seem much more fitting.
Xavier Long
I've seen >"I am the lowest of the low..." But what has baloney pony been replaced by?
Brody Butler
watching dubbed anime wtf just read the subtitles pleb
Brandon Morris
YASSSS sis!!! Hopefully they get the BASED wholesome genderqueer va who is voicing Shinji now to play him in live action!!
Ayden Jones
>Not watching a piece of media with the audio that the creators intended it to have. How much of a pleb can you get? Fucking americans.
Henry Reed
They changed the subtitles too.
Jose Bennett
I don't care what anyone says, as a first timer I'm enjoying the fuck out of the show rn. If you already watched it with the old music I could see why you care so much but honestly idgaf
Alexander Nelson
No one who cares about standards watches anime.
Jaxson Bailey
There is only one track missing anyway. Is not world shattering
What episode are you on? Dub?
Adrian Price
Cope accepted.
Ian Brown
Good for you, the italian version got shitted beyond belief.
Michael Hill
BASED Netflix shill
Justin Nguyen
While I understand you may not really care about the end of episode song(while I kind of like it I wouldn't care either) it's also a completely objective downgrade to two important scenes where the music is supposed to play in but now it's just silence.
William Hughes
>Same as Mexicans watching the dubbed version of The Simpsons
Latino Simpsons dub is god tier so that's an exception and not a good example of why. We just grew up with it.
Brandon Harris
Last anime I watched was Fate Zero subbed and I'm pretty sure it sucked fucking balls in both languages
>Misato is probably my least favorite change. i was unironically going to watch this. might not bother now >no fly me to the moon wow get fucked into the trash please
Tyler Hernandez
>not an argument Nobody's arguing, we're not gonna debate a fucking burger over their retarded practices
Jose Campbell
Do you have a separate screen where you play subs? Pretty sure they should be on the same screen so there should be no scenario in which you look away from it because of subtitles.
Josiah Torres
It distracts from the animation
Logan Roberts
Because hearing the same words in a different language does less to corrupt the experience than subtitles. I mean according to your own logic they didn't make the series with little words on the bottom they want you to glance at every 10 seconds. Anime is an audio-visual medium. When you watch it in a language you don't understand you are replacing the audio portion of the show with what is essentially white noise if you don;t understand Japanese.
Dominic Powell
As someone that only watches Eva subbed, the dub isn't too shabby. Shinji could sound a bit more masculine but he fits more than original dub. I'm pissed about Fly Me to the Moon though, they could have at least licensed one cover, preferably Claire's.
Grayson Carter
Dubbed anime was cheaper to buy when I was a kid so I consumed it all that way. The Eva tapes were like $19 vs $29 if you bought subbed.
Oliver Roberts
I watch dubs because it makes it easier to connect with the character and their emotions. Like if the voice actor put emphasis on a certain word or said it with a certain tone, that would basically be lost when reading subs. Also all animation is dubbed over anyways, if it was live action I would watch it with subs.
I’d so do that bitch then not call her or look her in the eye the next day
Aaron Sanders
Now this is a dead meme.
Alexander Johnson
lol who cares goy its some old cartoon get over it lol
Michael Hall
>It's dead because I don't like it Cringe
Alexander Ross
I hope you don't operate any motor vehicles user.
Wyatt Cruz
As a non anime fan why is watching dubbed such an issue? If the anime is good, for example Ninja Scroll or Akira, watching dubbed won't ruin the experience. If it's putrid shit ala Fate Zero or Psycho Pass, it wouldn't work in any language anyway.
Japanese voice actors are a lot better (usually). They add more inflection and emotion to their voice acting. Sometimes lines are translated incorrectly. It's also how the creators intended the work to be viewed.
Chase Bennett
Nintendo could afford it though? What the fuck is Netflix doing
Ryder Lopez
>No Fly Me to the Moon is easily the worst sin the new dub has made Why would they take that out? Licensing issues?
James White
>What the fuck is Netflix doing Trying to not go bankrupt.
Nathan Hill
Shinji sounds feminine, like a deep sounding woman.
Zachary Robinson
>Japanese voice actors are a lot better (usually). They add more inflection and emotion to their voice acting. That doesn't affect the overall quality that much for me.
Ryan Anderson
you fool no one tranny netflix shillwhore
Xavier Young
it depends, some dubs are bad, like they talk way too fast because the language requires more words to express the phrase and most of the times when they scream they scream like they don't want his mom on the other room to wake up, I don't understand why only japanese screaming actually sounds like screaming
Evan Wilson
THe fucking delivery makes it worse
>I'm the lowest.....of the low
Nicholas Wood
Shinjis vs is nonbinary, please respect their pronouns
Michael Lopez
It's racist
Ryder Rogers
based retard
Austin Hall
I get what you mean screaming is hard to fake right otherwise it gives that weird uncanny feeling FMA had some ok screaming from Vic
Ethan Jenkins
The 80's Akira dub which I watched is objectively considered bad and I thought it was a pretty good movie. Could be because it's largely focused on animation but the point still stands.
Carson Stewart
kind of shitty they apparently spent an arm and a leg on bidding for the rights only to pull something like this. I'll probably unsubscribe over this...
Cameron Allen
I don't respect people's delusions, though it is often best to play into them until they can see for themselves what they are. Still, the only drugs the average tranny should be taking is Haloperidol
Andrew Gomez
Dilate tranny
Gabriel White
We both know you won’t, NPC.
Bentley Robinson
Probably
Owen Davis
Kill yourself
Carson King
How could you be okay with scenes, key emotional moments, having their soundtrack replaced with nothing? That's wack
Carter Bailey
Good I don't blame you. They advertised it as the real thing, and it's clearly not.
Oliver Watson
Because there is only one scene where it happens and it's just as impactful with silence
And even if it wasn't, it's worth the trade-off for a better performance from almost every actor
Liam Russell
I was largely holding on out of inertia, but they jerked that with this bullshit.
Bentley Barnes
it's multiple scenes and im obviously not watching the dub.
Which is another thing, we had a chance to actually fix something that was bad about the originals and we get something that is not better because who cares as long as we've got the rights, right? Fucking bullshit.
Jaxson Jenkins
>obviously not watching the dub Then why are you even bothering to watch the Netflix version
>we had a chance to actually fix something that was bad about the originals Like what? The dub already fixed the horrible voice actors playing shinjis friends and nerv staff, but you said you are watching the sub. What positive changes to the sub did you think they should make?
>Shinji himself actually sounds 14 He honestly just sounds like a girl now rather than a young boy
Nicholas Cook
Is the Bach music still in there?
Jace Gutierrez
>Then why are you even bothering to watch the Netflix version Because I don't have anything that can easily display mkv titles on my TV, but more important this is the only way to legally watch it now.
Nolan Hughes
just cut it you've likely watched everything they've got that's worth bothering with anyway, and all signs point to them not releasing anything actually decent going forward if you really, truly want to watch something specific by them in the future there's always an alternate route
Adam White
>Also all animation is dubbed over anyways, if it was live action I would watch it with subs. The final redpill
Aiden Cooper
Wouldn't the pg version of that be "I'm so screwed up" ? Not that it would make it better but at least it's an actual phrase
Oliver Stewart
So... Why is there any reason to watch this shit when I already watched it 20+ years ago, then found the subbed version at least 15+ years ago.
Whatever, I guess for people that are too lazy to read subs or would rather text while watching it.
Anyway, How will these *new* fans react to episode 25 and 26 lol Normies throw a hissy fit whenever a show doesn't end how they thought it should end, so I'm curious how pissed they'll be when 25 and 26 are introspective stream of consciousness episodes.
>I watch dubs because it makes it easier to connect with the character and their emotions. I would if this were true but the reality is it's inherently hard to fit good dialogue and sadly most of the VA in the field are not up to the task. Of course this isn't an issue once you've seen your share of anime anyway...
Thomas Diaz
Toothpicks
Josiah Hill
and I can hear elements of Holst's Mars in that. Time is a flat circle.
So, they were willing to pay to redub the entire anime but weren't willing to pay to get fly me to the moon? I don't understand how this makes any sense.
Kevin Martin
Air is still there but Asuka's delivery is flat which reduces the effect. The "I'll kill you" moment really stood out to me by how relaxed she sounded
Jeremiah Moore
they were willing to pay to keep everyone else from redubing the anime
Leo Nelson
How do the Evas sound? Like the roar after 01 eats Zeruel?
Levi Garcia
Why would I need the inflection to be in the right order? Doesn't make sense. Japanese verbs come at the end of sentences, while in English it's closer to the beginning and we often end on nouns, so I guess you're referring to that. But it doesn't take much brain power to hear the character yell at the end of the sentence and understand the full sentence is meant for that same tone.
Actually, why the fuck are you trying to match inflection and emphasis to subs anyway lol What kind of autism is this?
And wouldn't dubs just exacerbate the problem? Because not only do they need to alter the dialog to fit the lip flaps, but when the character is visibly yelling the verb at the end of their Japanese sentence, when dubbed in English they'll be yelling a noun while the verb (now at the beginning) wouldn't be visibly yelled. Wouldn't this be an even more offensive change to 'emphasis'?
Benjamin Hill
We don't really know the circumstances.
The fly me to the Moon rights holders could have had a distribution exclusivity contract with Funimation, meaning the only localized versions of the show with the song would have to come from them. At that point it's completely out of the hands of Netflix and more the problem of the song holder for not having any foresight past their current contract.
Things are a lot more complicated in the industry than "they didn't have the money"
Aiden Fisher
>they even soiface in the thumbnail beyond hope
Grayson Perry
Unchanged
Jaxson Bailey
But Bayonetta was able to get the song for both their games and they are like budget games with no funding.
It's like Netflix didnt try
Cooper Scott
>No Fly me to the moon >Kaworu isn't gay for Shinji anymore
why even fucking bother
Cooper Cook
Reread my post.
There is a good chance that when Funimation, the original dub creators, were licensing Fly Me to the Moon they added in their contract something along the lines of "no other localizations of Evangelion can use this song for 40 years" or something similar. I'm paraphrasing, but things like this happen in the industry constantly.
Cooper Flores
>things like this happen in the industry constantly Can't reproduce the authentic product because (((copywrite))). Never forget the 6 gorillion contracts goy.
Logan Murphy
So they are the digital sounding English dub versions? Damn. I wish they just went with the Jap shit. When 01 gets stabbed in the core in End of Eva and Shinji is freaking out. That scream is just terrifying.
Cameron Gutierrez
It sucks but it's the truth
Nicholas Jackson
Is Komm Susser Todd still in?
Wyatt Carter
I come to Yea Forums for two reasons and one is to appreciate television and film
Hunter King
The Evangelion screaches are unchanged. The characters screaming are the new VAs though
Angel White
>original >"unfamiliar ceiling" Simple, poetic, easy to interpret >nu-dub >"another ceiling I don't recognize" Unwieldy, too literal, cringe
The new dub is full of these unwieldy translations. The original is still the best.
Brody Edwards
Yes. The ONLY thing changed in the soundtrack is fly me to the moon
Luke Watson
The original has better acting and was created with the original voices in mind, and it is the original version as intended by the original creators. The original voices are a part of the work. Dubfags just make all kinds of excuses because they cannot into reading fast enough or don't want to look at the screen.
Carter Hill
"Unfamiliar ceiling" is unnatural and not how people sound
Christian Garcia
>You get almost *nothing* out of listening to Japanese. It's just noise. It might as well not even be there. Nobody ever says anything like this about live action, this is strictly an anime issue manufactured by dubfags. And if you spent some time listening to Japanese you would slowly develop a feel for it.
Julian Barnes
Is it normal to watch anime at 2.5x speed? I read manga at 3x speed
Dominic Hall
I just meant when Eva 01 screamed in EoE when her core gets exposed

That seems way too fast but I watch DBZ at x.50 during rewatches
Benjamin Reed
>being this pathetic When I read manga, I skim the first page, then jump to the last page. With my 200+IQ I can fill in the rest mentally
Jayden Hill
The mexican spanish dub of the simpsons is literally better than the actual show. They add extra jokes and fix things that dont translate well. It gives it a different feel and it really is for the better, especially the episodes after the golden era
Evan Turner
Yea Forums can't handle this level of critical thought
Isaac Collins
In the end of Evagelion when Ritsuko confronts Gendo they changed it from
>Ritsuko Akagi, the truth is....... to >Ritsuko Akagi. I am truely....
Ritsukos reaction is different tonally, in the original dub she exhibits shock and denial when she spits out "liar" at him. In the new dub, it falls completely flat like who cares.
Personally I like the theory that Gendo's words were "I needed you" so the new dub makes zero sense for these words
Isaac White
The original Japanese best translates to "I truely am" though
Isaiah Young
"honto ni..." best translates as "I truely..."
The new wording really limits the response he could have given, it sounds like he's leading up to an apology
Carter Brown
The japanese title it translates isn't conversational either. The original translation preserves the tone and literal meaning but "another ceiling I don't recognize" does neither
If you hate the dub so much why not just watch the sub?
Brandon Scott
Reminder that Shinji can´t have sex because he is the original incel.
Jonathan Perez
why not? you probably wouldnt understand it anyway
Ryder Young
>I only watch anime in subs >Not even a weeb
Your standard in-denial weeb, everybody.
Christopher White
Watching anime subbed is just the normal, rational thing to do.
David Hall
I think the tone of voice isnt that different. I think this may be more of an issue with Chinese. Ive probably watch 200 different anime and if you listen without subs guessing emotions isnt that hard.
Josiah White
Well I guess I am right then you pleb
Luis Gutierrez
>Japanese voice actors are a lot better no
Christian Jones
The anime dubbing industry is, if not the bottom of the voice acting barrel in America, then at least quite close to it. Nothing like the anime industry.
Alexander Taylor
Why would they redub it anyway what is the point
Matthew Baker
Should american cartoons get another series of voice actors after the original cast worked so hard on it?
Blake Lewis
