I haven't seen Lain in like a decade. The theme got stuck in my head and I finally started watching it again. It's both oddly dated and timely as hell.

I forgot how much of a horror and ghost story the thing is. It's as much horror as it is sci-fi and cyberpunk.
Also there's a fucking Minecraft level in it. Okay. More of some kinda dungeon crawler from the era, but I can't help but laugh at the idea of complaining about grade school kids getting hooked on some online game that looks like this. Plus there is a bit of a Battle Royale element to one of the other games with kids hunting each other.
Plus there is some dated CG. This is some Berserk 2016 shit right here.
Heh. I almost feel bad for finding shit like that cutting edge back in the day. Though this whole series seems pretty budget, so I find it kinda quaint. For a weird slice of life / cyberpunk / horror anime in the late 90s, this was pretty well done. I don't know if it aged well or if I have some nostalgia for anime of the time. Though even for its time it wasn't a high budget show.
Then again, it seems to blend in with the animation better than the often eyesore Berserk 2016 is.
>" The Wired is full of nonsense-spouting anarchists and idiots who think pranks are a revolution."
Wow. Lain sure had user's number, even before user was a thing.
IT IS A VIRTUALITY GAME —HOW WOULD KIDS NOT BECOME ADDICTED TO SOMETHING LIKE THAT?
REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IT, OR COMPREHEND IT, GRAPHICS DO NOT CONSTITUTE A TERMINING FACTOR IN REGARD TO WHETHER A GAME IS GOOD, OR BAD.
IN WHAT YEAR WERE YOU BORN?
Amazing how some photos and some Photoshop filters seemed cutting edge in the 90s.
dude electric wires humming
lmafo
FLIPPANT ZOOMER.
>games don't need good graphics
>IT IS A VIRTUALITY GAME —HOW WOULD KIDS NOT BECOME ADDICTED TO SOMETHING LIKE THAT?
Sure thing, Palmer Luckey.
This show is honestly just bad, but not for any of the dumb crap you complain about OP. The technical side is fine, the "dated CG" adds to the charm and is evocative of the era. It's just poorly written, it's not profound, it's not really that experimental, it's just an overall waste of time. It has some interesting scenarios, characters and conceits that fail to deliver, and not even in an interesting way. It's simply a flat show, with no traces of human intelligence or spirituality. I'm surprised that enough low IQ weebs with frazzled attention spans have watched the show to be able to shill and avatarfag it so hard, but I assume it's just because it has a cute retarded autistic girl as its central character. I can understand that though, I'd totally massage Lain's feet and tickle her toes to see her blush and giggle.
sort of looks like one of those OoT kakariko tombs with playstation graphics
>I assume it's just because it has a cute retarded autistic girl as its central character.
You say that as if it needs anything more than that.
Eh. Given how early media was dealing with the concept of the internet and social networking online was, I don't think it is all that bad. It certainly has some weirdo Liquid Television level pseudo intellectual stuff though.
>ha ha ha ha ha ha
[*distant AYYYY LMAFOing*]
and then Lain was an episode of X-Files
now literally ECCO the dolphin

If you are going to make some criticism at least elaborate because you said nothing.
He said he found it shallow and pedantic.
Is that not criticism enough?
You're just offended because it dares to be something other than a cartoon.
That's entirely subjective.
I hate how so many classic 90s anime has these awful alternative rock themes. Although it becomes kind of funny and sentimental after a while.
There is no subjectivity when all of human connectivity and conscientiousness is relayed through a global network.
I really like it. Plus it's some obscure British folk / alt rock group.
The worst for me is the stupid alt rock theme for Berserk. Although it's kind of funny as well.
TELL ME WHY
TELL ME WHY
TELL ME WATCHUWANT
It reminds me of all that coffee shop folk of 1994. It's like The Cranberries or something.
It's the occasional downside to the way music works in anime. They gotta have some songs for the openings and endings that they can sell, and sometimes they seem to just put in whatever because they can't come up with anything that sounds appropriate.
Is the new anime that bad?
I have only read the manga and I have no expectations when it comes to anime made after 2000.
>I have no expectations when it comes to anime made after 2000
This is your brain on memes.
>Is the new anime that bad?
You say that as if I don't still listen to The Cranberries on my phone (especially after the lead singer died).
Also known has not having shit taste.
now literally an Apple ad in the middle of a clipshow
I'd rather watch
Brap Experiments Sniffed
Just because something is a meme, that doesn't mean it isn't also true.
When you say someone has shit taste, you really mean that you have narcissistic personality disorder. Anyway, you don't know anything about post-2000 anime, just as people who denounce anything made past 2007 don't know anything about post-2007 anime.
It isn't true.
I'd rather watch
Serial Braps Sniffed

I'd rather watch

I think you mean
>cgi
Yikes, why do they do this? It looks like shit
Lain is a TV show. Are you saying this isn't the right board for TV shows?
the posts that saved Yea Forums
It looks shit when it's done shittily. Most people have never seen any CG anime besides Berserk and just assume all CG anime looks the same.
EVAfags deserve the rope
>you don't know anything about post-2000 anime
I know enough about anime pre-2000 to know that new stuff is shit.
Just like music and video games.
Maybe underage faggots enjoy them because they don't know any better.
fauux.neocities.org
This is actually a secret Anya Taylor Joy thread.
Whats an example of it done right then?
let me check............ yep, it's BASED
[cgi anime bear]
Which is to say that you don't know anything about post-2000 anime.
Houseki no Kuni. Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai (for the most part). BanG Dream season two.
What about it? You're just doing the same thing but using a different meme example. And it's not even a CG series, it's a hand-drawn series with CG effects.
I just love the atmosphere and visual style and slow pacing it's top comfy
holy...... BASED
VERY funny. hi /r/Yea Forums
reminds me of this video I watched recently:
youtube.com
Still looks more soulless than drawn. Everything looks so plastic and shiny. Not to mention the stiffness of the animation.
Drawn > CG
Soulless is not a word, it's not possible or desireable to do everything hand-drawn, and CG doesn't look plastic unless you apply plastic-like effects to it.
The shit about Protocol 7 reminds me of all the conspiracy shit about 5G Networks going up.
tfw it's almost 4am and you're up rewatching lain
LAIN
More like cereal brapxperiment lame
Hahahahahahah
*dabs back and forth*
Le le le le
oh yeah? I'd rather watch
Brap Sniff Sniff
The theme is the only thing good about it
>and it's not from japan
Since when is anime allowed here? Not complaining
A ridiculous claim.
Anime is television and movies and there exists no rule saying that anime or animation isn't allowed here.
imagine the smell
It was after the Cowboy Bebop fad and I was in my awkward transition into high school. I needed something to fill the void. On the channel I saw Bebop they gave the slot of Bebop to Lain. It was so disappointing to me.
And I began to use internet and I felt Internet was so much better than what Lain described.
So in short I saw Lain back then but wasn't interested at all
Getting some real Last Temptation vibes from this last ep that I dunno if I picked up on seeing it originally.
>lmafo
>laughing my ass fucking off
And you dare mock the show?
Nice
You know what’s more annoying than people using the word soulless? People who bitch about the word on here, Yea Forums, Yea Forums, and everywhere else it used, because you nigs know exactly what is meant by it.
It doesn't mean anything.
It means something is lacking the intangible human factor, the thing that every good work art has that connects you on some level or another to the artist responsible.
But again... you know that, and choose to act autistic about it anyway. Now or whether you’re some fedora type who is literally being triggered by the word “soul” I can’t say, but I can tell you that only actual mentally disabled children struggle with words so basic.
Bear in a Lain suit.
It means nothing. Well ok, it does mean "I don't like this thing," but that does not count.
>But again... you know that, and choose to act autistic about it anyway.
By accusing me of autism you are admitting that you are wrong and I am right.
Something about pic related was kind of horrifying to be honest. I think it was just the context. Also creepy smirking Lain is pretty spooky.
oopies
i'm not much of a fan of 2deep4you artsy bullshit
should i bother watching this?
No, I like 2deep4you artsy bullshit, like 9 hour long Hungarian black and white movie style shit, and I hated it.
maybe i'll use it as aid to fall asleep faster
I liked the episode where they talk about how memes are starting to have an effect on the real world.
The story was written around 97-98 and it has only become more relevant over time.
This was the best episode. Really captured the weird mix of true information mixed in with conspiracy theories you'd find on sites all over the web back then. The anti-5G shills of today should learn from this.
You don't seem to understand
memes were a mistake
Is 6G going to be where my brain can shitpost directly without a laptop or cellphone?
Cringe yet redpilled
kiss me
good morning, my sons
One of the first texts exploring the idea that memes can influence reality is actualy Tlon, Uqbar and Orbis Tertius, written by Jorge Luis Borges in 1940. The term meme hadn't been invented yet so he doesn't use it but the story is about a secret society spreading counterfeit copies of the Encyclopedia Britannica that include detailed descriptions of a fictional country, with the objective of making that country real (in the postscript they have succeded).
Pic related is a copy of the 11th edition of Encyclopedia Britannica, Jorge Luis Borges favorite edition. Why does it say POL to REE?
What about Despera? It's steampunk Lain
It had nothing to do with memes. It was about Christianity.
SE Lain is the kinda media I dont particularly like but enjoy talking about
gay ass namefag but i agree,to even consider being as retarded as is insane,ADHD zoomer pleb would probably have a heart attack watching texhnolyze
A comfy thread as always
Lain & Ain
Test
I still don't understand what happened to Lain's dad why'd he go so nuts was the internet even really that good back then
Wait so the zoomer just made this thread to shit on lain? Stupid cancer. cringe and bluepilled.
Lain's dad at the end is actually God who took the form of her parental figure to talk to her. The man created God meeting God.
>tfw just wanted to protect Lain and tell her everything will be alright
Lain's parents were a set up, they didn't love her as a daughter.
