Fun fact, I wrote both posts.
He shot the movie in 4/3, so he knew the theatre version in 16/9 would hide the copter shadow, then re-edited the VHS version to make it shorter but it's hard to believe he forgot that fucking shadow.

Of course he had the choice, zoom in, cut, chemical erasing... If he let it it's either because he didn't care (it's one second after all) or because he thought it was relevant in some way, but it's certainly not a "mistake".
