He waits until almost immediately after the fact to question what he meant, and Morton nonsensically speaks in riddles because the movie had to be like poetry instead of a coherent storyline.
Why did the movie feel the need to make every dialogue feel like it was emphasizing the dialogue? Like everybody knows the significance of what they're saying, whether the script up to that point says they should know it or not.
It's partially the reason I enjoyed Wright's performance as Joshi. She isn't dragging out the dialogue, just relaying it in the mundane fashion it should be relayed, despite the circumstances.
Luv especially was annoying in this regard. She may as well have looked at the camera with every line, what an embarrassment.
Ultimately the blame lies with the director, and Fancher's hack of a script treatment. This guy couldn't write a screenplay for a Star Wars flick, let alone trying to adapt Philip K. Dick's themes.
