Because it reveals a collective ignorance about how writing works, and about how life works. It also serves as a source for many amateur aspirant writers on how to construct things; a lot of nerds think that there's no such thing as originality and you just shuffle tropes to get a new story. Then they're hurt and disappointed when their efforts fail again and again.

More specific annoyances:
- There are hundreds of tropes on there which aren't really tropes.
- The contributors have somehow created a "house style" for themselves which involves italicizing plot points they expect you to be impressed by.
- Nobody on there really knows shit, and glaring errors of fact are legion.
- Dramatic incidents that occur because of their authors' awareness of basic ethics and normal human psychology are dysfunctionally systematized into syntactical functions because they remind TVTropes users of another movie or show they saw. Everything refers to other media, nothing refers to life. Not even old-school postmodernist academics actually believed this, though they found it amusing to argue as if they did.

I think they removed most of the "this troper thinks" bullshit from the articles so you mostly dont notice, but you often notice the tone sometimes in articles and its cringy.

I didn't know it had a community, so I'd welcome you guys to ignore it and enjoy the page for the dumb fun and good read that it is. At the end of the day, most of us would never dissect media to that level on our own; not even TV Tropes was done by a single person, it's many people identifying "things" from a movie and putting it into words. If you can't see the advantages of indulging in this, I don't know what to tell you. It's pure autism yes, but it's also pure learning to go and read the page for... for... Pokemon Red, for example, and know all the intrincacies of that game. Or to the Matrix page and realize how was the movie constructed.
And even outside caring about how something is constructed (most of us will never need that knowledge to write something) it's still fun to find out, it's like trivia or interesting facts.

It's the most stupid shit to see people opposed to it, kinda like teachers being against Wikipedia or normalfags being against Yea Forums.
But I repeat, I've never checked the community, and I did identify some things aren't always truly neutral shit like The Last Jedi usually has commentaries trying to justify something, but even then it's left up to the reader's discretion and usually after such a remark defending it, someone else will take a jab at the trope use in the movie to offer an insight from the other side.
But I admit I'm part of the people who enjoy having everything labeled and numbered and I do enjoy powerlevels faggotry in Yea Forums and discussing in lenght about which Marvel hero is the strongest and typing 2000 character posts about how unstoppable Thanos actually is while listing the abilities of each Power stone and inconsistencies. But the page shouldn't be judged by what autists that read it cause, kinda like Undertale being a great game "ruined by fans". Or people claiming they don't like a certain movie or song after finding out the author is a rapist. Just enjoy the page for what it is.

As an added comment, I don't think it's that different from Yea Forums. After watching a movie I'll get back home excited to finally participate in the threads here... and I also finally go read its TV Tropes entry. And the feeling isn't all that different you know. Reading the Tropes actually gives me more ideas to discuss here.

Years ago I stumbled onto the site (before the WOKE) and there was a hilarious entry about black vikings.It went into how ridiculously anachronistic and immersion breaking it was to have the wrong people cast. Now the same entry is an apologist mess basically saying not to get butthurt and deal with it.
