Older than you requested, but I recently enjoyed rewatching Mad Max: Fury Road and The Last Mohican. Both are masterpieces in their different ways - and I always get cheered up after watching something I think is good from start to finish.

I'd compare it to Taxi Driver, since it's by the same writer and has a similar main character, albiet the liberal version.

It's also pretty similar A Serious Man.

Really good movie, I highly recommend it.

Taxi Driver was about a Chad fighting degeneracy and corruption, ultimately prepared to give his life to save a child from prostitution.

First Reformed is about a frustrated faggot mad that no one will take his global warming autism seriously so he prepares to kill himself and take others with him for no reason other than he's a piece of shit, but he fails at that anyway.

It's an embarrassing cringe pile of shit, not even in the same playing field as something like Taxi Driver.

I'm going to watch Star Wars VII this weekend. It's not something my parents watch; they've never seen it and they don't think much of it, but it's fun watching. The thing that I've always enjoyed about films like the ones it's based on -- and movies like The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi -- there's an element of wonder that goes along with them. A lot of the films take place in a galaxy far, far away and take place in a place that they never really thought about before, and that's what makes them so captivating. The thing is, they may not be a perfect formula -- there are a few things we forget that were there at the start -- and the final results that they put together are just really powerful, but they are great in a way that can't be replicated. The best films of the last 25 years just haven't been good movies at all.

I'm sad, but I had a friend who's dad died of a drug overdose and this year is going to be different. I'm sad about the fact that I'm going to wake up the next day without any money, which is hard enough, but this has been enough to get me through the worst part of every day.

This year my friend turned me on to so many amazing films. In my case this year I've picked up:

Logan (2016). I was in the theater for the movie in the very second I read that they could afford this kind of script with $250 at least. We watched it when it opened after only 3 or 4 screens and then found out it actually ran for 2 hours and 10 mins.
