Are you looking forward to the new Evangelion dub on Netflix that comes out in four days?
Are you looking forward to the new Evangelion dub on Netflix that comes out in four days?
I'm very interested in it
Will definitely give it a shot
yes. i like dubbed anime so i can half-watch it while shitposting or gaming. and the original eva dub has an annoying voice actress for Asuka (they didn't even give her a german accent).
Evangelion is just a coming of age story told through autistic big mech anime shit and kabbalah. So no.
literally who gives a shit. why did they go to the effort to make this? anyone who watches evangelion is going to watch it sub, unless the select few like that just want it on in the background. not worth the effort to make.
Yes but not the dub.
I'm gonna miss Spike Spencer as Shinji. He's the definitive voice for me.
Red pill me on this thing that gets posted here endlessly. Why is it so popular?
>yes. i like dubbed anime so i can half-watch it while shitposting or gaming.
this is a terrible way to view films and tv shows
You're doing yourself a disservice
It's good, that's why
it has a few waifus and a MC pathetic enough to make any watcher feel good about themselves
I'm going to wait for someone to tell me the acting is fantastic, otherwise I'll pass.
I am however looking forward to all my normie friends discovering it and telling me their shit theories of what the fuck happens in that anime.
Is it true they only redubbed it to add progressive rewrites to the dialogue?
And Tiffany as Asuka. She's better than the Japanese VA. They can make the dialogue less awkward, but I just can't imagine them finding VAs I'll like more.
yeah I'm sure he's missing out on all the intricacies of the capeshit he most likely watches
no but they did recut it so that shenji sneezed into his hand instead of nutting into it.
No it's overrated trash, kill yourself you fucking shill.
Is that thing Evangelion?
Pathetic but popular in the same way Sir John Falstaff is?
Why are we getting new dubs? What's wrong with the old ones?
This news is very unsettling...
You have normie friends that watch anime? Wtf?
Is true that Gendo has New York accent and Rei is named Ivanka now?
Was it a legal issue that prevented them form just putting the original series on Netflix?
I've never fully watched the original dub version but it exists as a high quality 1080p BD on my hard drive.
Also I've never used Netflix but do they only have dubs for anime or could I watch subbed with original audio?
No she is evangelion
For me, it’s Asuka.
No legal reason, they redubbed so they could stick the netflix original logo on it. You should be able to watch the original Japanese audio and subs though
>the original eva dub has an annoying voice actress for Misato
Just something you forgot to add.
The entire reason I went subs on that one. Im with you tho if the dub sounds fine then i'll roll with it.
As in
>Hey user, I saw this New Yorker article about how this Netflix show is like, the best anime ever.
>You like anime, right? Should I watch it?
And then
>user holy shit that Evanjelion show is amazing! It's totally not what I expected at all! Do you think the angels are aliens? Or are they like, an experiment that got loose or something? Was that Rei girl a clone or whatever? I think I missed a few scenes while I was eating
etc etc
>he's an Asukafag
shinji doesn't make anyone feel good about themselves, if anything he makes them feel worse.
He makes me feel better about myself because I'm not a crybaby.
it's really bad and cheesy I dunno maybe people liked it when it first came out but now it's really cliche I wouldn't bother with it.
Anyone who would want to watch Evangelion already has
What about the people who don't know they want to watch evangelion?
latent pedophilia
Rei is for boomers
Asuka for zoomers
If you haven’t already watched NGE, it’s not for you
Let's just settle this once and for all.
nobody:
netflix: we made a new nge dub
>asuka worst girl

>misluto over rei
yikes
>Misato over rei
Doll fucker
cuck
No. I like my foreign shit with subtitles, I hate American voice acting, and I'm not paying for Netflix.
No, it's angelion.
I hope my country's version is not re dubbed because I loved the original
also I pirated it years ago and I have it on my HDD so if it suck I'll just rewatch it from there
can't wait for zoomer to join the depression club and for the
>what does the ending mean?
threads on Yea Forums
>anyone under rei
Kaworu is indeed best girl
>he doesn't want to fuck his mother's clonefu
I'm not looking forward to it but I am anticipating it because NGE is my favorite show. I've never watched the sub before with the original VAs so I'm doing that this week in preparation.
Asuka is bad, but she's not worse than a fucking toaster
Also Hikari is best girl
unironically yes. I want to see what's the hype
You UNIRONICALLY need to not be a brainlet to understand Asuka and the motivation behind her interactions with the cast and most noticeably Shinji throughout the series. She wanted Shinji to break through her Wall of Jericho if you know what I'm saying.
>14
>From a broken home
>no male role models
>emotionally abused
>people clearly use him for his talents, without providing him support
>despite no one caring about him, he still gets in the fucking robot and destroys eldritch entities every time ('runs away' once then comes back anyway).
Shinji is absolutely based, lad. You're a brainlet if you fell for the meme.
>based
>wears tighty whities
It doesn’t add up, senpai.
You forgot
>so much of a chad that best girl in the series literally falls in love with him after 2-3 episodes from being introduced without him even slightly attempting to change his personality
Sadly I go on holiday on Thursday so I won't see it till I am back I hope it is a fucking terrible dub and they somehow sneak in sjw shit so I can cringe watch it.
They are keeping the of jap dub I assume?
did they release the voice cast?
I'm watching the subs right now for the first time. The first episode is less awkward but I can't get used to Misato's Japanese actress, she sounds too "cute", the English VA is perfect as a sloppy slutty drunk but also a hardass.
I'm worried about the re dub
Since when is Yea Forums full of patricians
americans have a short attention span, they can't handle subtitles
I hope you're all ready for a wave of pseudo intellectual video essays made by zoomers telling you what makes Evangelion so genius
>i hope you're ready for something thats been happening since 20 years ago
>i hope you're ready for something thats been happening since 20 years ago
You know Eva hasn't been available legally in the US for decades right? You had to either buy old VHS tapes or pirate the episodes.
I will
you're on 4channel. what the fuck are you talking about, eva is the plebest of all anime, literally everyone, even people who dont watch anime, have seen it and know its "deep"
>i like dubbed anime
superior mecha coming through
wait
it's actually a new dub
NGE is not a mecha anime
Why would you watch dubbed anime? American anime voice actors are jokes who can only do 'the English anime dub voice.' You know the one. There are only a scant handful of good English dubs.
>but Cowboy Bebop's dub is amazing!
NO!
And, he folds them! Cute!!
I bet Kaworu goes commando desu
Because in most situations, even a slightly grating dub is superior than having to constantly read text, for immersion. I’m 90% sure subs have the same shit voice acting, you just don’t know because you don’t speak Japanese.
Don’t lie to yourself. That’s based and cutepilled
this is probably the most pleb opinion I've read in quite some time
you seriously think READING takes you out of the moment? how long is it taking you to read a line at a time?
also your line about subs having shit voice acting is asinine
the whole point is that you can feel that the expressed are more genuine because they're being read in their original language. if you don't understand how things (tonal nuance and expression) can be lost in a translation, you're a lost cause.
>retarded weeb that can’t even read hiragana giving his useless opinion
If you constantly have to flick your eyes to the bottom of the screen, you are obviously distracted. This is basic shit, retard.
>I can feel it is more genuine and tonal
Literally retarded. If you don’t fucking speak Japanese, it is entirely placebo.
if you can't detect emotion and tone even from a language you don't understand you might be legitimately autistic.
you'll be glad we had this talk since it revealed something about yourself.
I’m attached to the original English dub, but I will be able to stand this if
>they don’t change any of the dialogue or delivery in any way to altar the original meanings: specifically adding modern political commentary I’m concern about, or removing or censoring dialogue and scenes...
>the new performances have nuance and subtlety on par with the original. I’m not expecting the performances to be 1-1 with the meanings the original performances communicated, but as long as they stand on their own as interesting and nuanced I think i’ll be ok
>the make or break episode for me is 24, the Kaworu shower scene, and the descent into central dogma. If they fuck those up I will be extremely pissed. 24 is probably the first episode I’m going to watch to check the quality of the dub, and if it’s bad I won’t watch it and won’t recommend it.
The surest sign of a retard losing an argument is to isolate one part of the response, and attempt to make an ad hominem attack of it.
Good day, loser.
the part with my eyes flicking was so inane it didn't even warrant a response
I accept your concession
>Reifag
baby who wants mommy
>Misatofag
dumb horny zoomer
>prefers Asuka
spiritually enlightened adult
>be me
>11 years old
>go to mall with parents
>go alone to suncoast video
>they’re playing evangelion vhs tapes on the display tvs
those days are gone forever like sand in the wind
holy fuck. i want to cry. i know this might come across as disingenuous over Yea Forums, but ... christ ... it all went so wrong
I am preemptively annoyed with having to hear people talk about it and not be able to inject my opinions without outing myself as a person that watches anime
It's like the whole if you're young and a Republican you have no heart, and if you're old and a Democrat you have no brain for me.
Me and almost every person I ever watched EVA with thought Rei > Asuka on our first watch because the nuance behind Asuka, her actions and mental trauma, and also the fact that she was as close to being in love with Shinji as you can get was completely lost on us. At the time we all just thought she was a complete bitch until Episode 22-24 where she was redeemed a bit in our eyes. It wasn't until multiple rewatches and browsing through evageeks we almost all changed our opinions.
I honestly don't understand how anybody could like Rei > Asuka after rewatching a couple of times and being able to read all the nuance with her interactions with the cast and especially with Shinji. Her character has 10x more depth than Rei will ever have. Just the nuance behind the kiss scene and it's relation with Asuka's mind rape in episode 22 conveys more character than the entirety of Rei's character.
The original isn't good (although Shinji's voice actress is decent when she's not shrieking, and Asuka's is ok) and the ADV dub isn't good either. I've legit seen better fandubs. It's like Naruto
Do you think the memes will be as good this time around?
reifags get out
This
It's 2019 grandpa, everyone watches anime
MY DUDE
I can’t listen to people enjoy things that I enjoy because they’re watching them wrong
>Republican you have no heart, and if you're old and a Democrat you have no brain for me
The Boomer creed
>the nuance behind Asuka, her actions and mental trauma, and also the fact that she was as close to being in love with Shinji as you can get was completely lost on us.
Speak for yourself. I loved Asuka immediately, she was my first real waifu. Rewatching the show did change how I feel about her though because I found myself relating to her .
Yeah not saying I agree with it but just using it as a metaphor for the older you get, or in this case the more you view and think about the source material, the more your opinions and view will change.
Tbh I think I was too young when I first watched eva and not really emotionally developed enough to really get what was going on with Shinji and Asuka. Now, like 10 years later, at the ripe age of 25, both of their stories just click with me which is why I find EoE pretty happy and upbeat. The two finally understand each other and have another person that they can rely on and use as emotional support, despite the end of the world having just happened.
That's interesting because I was 14 (20 now) when I first watched it. I was really depressed and Shinji was a really relatable character for me at the time so when I finished it and found out that everybody hated Shinji I was really surprised. It still shocks me to this day when people shit talk him as a character because I don't see how you can see that character and not at least sympathize with him. Series Shinji that is, Rebuild Shinji is a bitch and I can understand why people would hate him.
I will torrent this new dub.
I understood Shinji well on my first viewing of NGE, it was moreso Asuka that completely flew over my head until rewatching and reading.
Agreed with how people can't relate with Shinji. The themes on display and experiences he goes through are global and almost every human experiences. Depression, belonging, acceptance, compassion between people, etc. These are all emotions and experiences everybody who has ever lived besides Omega-chads, so I don't see how you couldn't relate to him.
watching nge as a depressed angsty teenager is a life changing experience but honestly once you are an adult it’s just like... fine
Kek really?
Based
It sounds kind of pretentious but I honestly feel like you might need to have experienced real depression/mental illness to fully understand and appreciate NGE. I've gotten two neurotypical friends and my sisters to watch it and it didn't do anything for them. One (former) friend in particular absolutely hated it and was like what about the angels? what happened with NERV and Tokyo-3? Etc. As if any of the surface level details actually matter, it was like he viewed it as an actual mecha show.
>watching nge as a depressed angsty teenager is a life changing experience
It really was but every time I tried to talk about online people were just like "it's okay" or "that shit was ass". I haven't watched it in a couple of years at this point because I have focus issues but I'm still depressed and angsty as an adult so maybe it might hit the same? I don't know, but even besides that, there's a lot to appreciate about the show aesthetically. The soundtrack, worldbuilding, character design, animation, editing (ESPECIALLY the editing), writing, pacing, and the way it veers into experimentalism because of the budget constraints are all excellent IMO. Like the scene when Shinji and Kaworu are sitting on the rocks and it goes on for a long time? I got made fun of for defending that but it was one of my favorite parts. I had no frame of reference for it when I was a kid but now I'm older and a fan of David Lynch and can see how its similar to some of the stuff he's done.
Watching this new dub from episode 8 on, for a fresh take on cute 'n canon.
Man I'm 23 with a good paying job with great career outlook, my own place, my own bills, am physically healthy and strong with great friends, have experienced death in my family and all that.
And whenever I rewatch Eva I still get sad like a bitch and get emotionally moved for weeks after finishing it up. Albeit I still get bouts of sadness and depression akin to when I was a complete fat NEET loser in high school and beyond.
will it be all of netflix or will there be regions that won't get it? I wanna rewatch the damn thing without moving a muscle
No. Noo fuck off get out of here! Go back to Yea Forums so I can have a comfy eva thread.
Bad animation
Stupid giant robot premise
Fascinating characters
Great dialogue
>WHAT THE HELL IS THAT
>whats going on
>we dont know
>all our meters and guages are going off the scale
>but we havent done anything yet
>you think it could be Shinji?
>thats impossible, Unit 01's power level must be at zero!
SHHHKKKRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOONNNKKKKKKK
>my god is that what im piloting
>god in heaven what kind of monster have we made this from
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I can’t revisit it because it instantly viscerally drags me back to high school. I tried to rewatch it and started literally smelling chlorine like I was watching it after swim practice again. I think I just associate it so much with being a miserable and deeply repressed kid that I can’t really enjoy it anymore
>dub
Of course not. Who the fuck watches dubs that's over 18 years of age?
I can’t even consider Asuka my waifu. There’s a connect there that is more for genuine respect and understanding of the character than for wanting to waifu her. It feels wrong.
Episode 16 and the end of 20 where eva-01 eats the Angel to assimilate the S2 engine are pure fucking
K I N O
I
N
O
why do i get the feeling they're gonna get the guy who voices Deku on the MHA dub to voice Shinji
I think you mean episode 19 my fellow kinoenthusiast
Yeah I don't think I could consider her my waifu anymore, not once I identified with her, but she did make me realize what type of girls I'm attracted to. It didn't help that at the time I was friends with and attracted to this girl named Alexis that acted just like her. I didn't realize I had a crush on her until after I watched NGE saw Asuka but at that point she had moved away.
Yeah man I'm getting that same feeling watching it right now. I'm deployed to some shithole in the Middle East but me and my friend here watch 2 episodes a day and I've been slowly but surely getting more angsty and depressed. I like the people I'm with here but I really just want to go home and connect with my real friends and family. On top of being able to relate because of the moment I'm in now, as you said, this show ALWAYS drags me back to the depressed fat loser NEET I was in high school and early college. It's a weird abstract feel.
Being able to watch this with my friend who hasn't seen it before and also has the same tendencies/outlook as I do is probobly why I haven't completely spiraled down out here as a result of watching eva again.
Yeah same. I liked Rei best first viewing and then Asuka thereafter. Used to jack it to her all the time until I actually got a really firm grasp on her character, trauma, love for Shinji and all that jazz and now I have a hard time sexualizing her and just wanna hug her.
We are all the evangelion
This has to be a marketer
>The two finally understand each other and have another person that they can rely on and use as emotional support, despite the end of the world having just happened.
What the fuck? We don't know that for sure. It's too ambiguous to say for certain this is the case.
Rei is for people that got attached to her before even watching the show, she is a total afterthought until EoE
i like the first one, Shinji sounding like a little bitch was great
I was so happy when I found a gachapon of that scene
where is this from?
im curious about it cause i wasnt a fan of the original dub. nice to have for when you are eating or trying to fall asleep and cannot constantly look at the screen.
Asuka is a damaged goods slut and you’re a cuck.
Dubs are for Amerifags and Amerifag wanabees.
Rei is awesome because shes like a robot wife but in the flesh.
>Here it comes, I I can beat this angel even without Shinji the hero here to help out
>Damn you!
>Scheisse, next!
>I'm neutralizing it's AT Field aren't I?
>Why won't you collapse damn you!
>This can't be happening, I'm in charge here!
>Nicht gut!
AAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
>Du verdammter scwhienhund!!
>ASUKA NO, disengage her nerve connections now!
>Nei-
SSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHCCCCCCLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCTTTTTTTTTTTTT
You can learn how to read subs, and if you spent time listening to Japanese voice acting you would get familiar with it, but dubfags just assume that's totally impossible and never even try.
You mean the new people from social media? God no
It’s Netflix, this is basically guaranteed.
Can you give an example of netflix dubbing something this way?
that scene where kaji and misato fucking has her remembering the times about her black boyfriend sticking things down there
yes
fuck you i love dub misato
I meant an example of them already doing something like that in the past with translations or dubs not your paranoid assumptions about any future thing they might do.
You wouldn't get it unless you watched it from ages 13-17
I'm willing to give the new dub a chance, but if they fuck with the score I'll drop it like a bag of cement
What about Misato?
What about Shinji?
Misato is for cucks
Shinji is for Kaworu
From personal experience and from people I know it seems to be the opposite. It's better when you're older. At 13-17 it just has a stronger 'wtf did I just watch' effect rather than just overall good appraisal.
minority here, i think ritsuko is pretty cute
I don't think the opinion she's hot or even cute is all that unpopular. The issues most people have with her is her actions and pretty much pathological Electra complex.
Literally who is this for?
People who grew up with/watched the old dub first will hate it.
Autistic sub only weebs will hate it.
Are they appealing to the incredibility thin band of normies who managed to bumble through life without hearing about this and actual children that didn't get the chance to watch the show already?
Agreed. I was too stupid and emotionally undeveloped to really appreciate it when I was 15-16. Rewatching it again at 19 and then again this week at 25 is akin to watching a brand new show because of all the nuance, themes and characterization I didn't grasp when I was young. This show is 10x better to watch when you're older since you can actually appreciate the thought and time Anno put into characterizing everybody, ESPECIALLY Shinji and Asuka.
>Electra complex
Gendo isn’t her father though
Get ready for DANK EVANGELION MEMES
Wild thought here, maybe they can't license the old dub and want a dub of NGE on their platform
I'm your father though.
Lol.
Haha
I'm looking forward to Netflix never answering your calls and refusing to pay you faggot.
yes, because it was made to be read in japanese and not heard
The best way to watch NGE is to watch it at 13-16 (and not understand it), watch it again at 17-19, and then finally at 23 or over.
Same. Liked Rei first then became an Asukafag years later. Waifuing her always felt wrong when I was young since I wanted Shinji to make himself and her happy.
Lmao Japanese cast is unironically one of the most legendary vocal casts of all time.
It's mostly for weebs who haven't watched Evangelion. A lot of these are also casual enough to hate dubs on principle.
I think there's a general misconception that everyone has already seen evangelion and it's among the first 10 or so 'real' anime watched by any new fan. That's bullshit. Most people who started watching anime in the past decade or so have not seen it. It has this 'classic' status but it doesn't mean it gets actively recommended or watched by people. Most jsut know it by name and from memes. There's so much readily available seasonal shit they can discuss on their discords or whatevers about that they just don't bother watching anything old
All you need to know, right here:
How long did it take for you to realise that Misato is best girl?
Midway through the second rewatch.

Yup, both times, people are just brainlets

Just be glad you have a friend to share your interests with.
Someone refers to an EVA unit with an incorrect pronoun and is chastised for it.
All anime is shit compared to manga.
Unless it's an action anime that requires fast flowing movement and fight scenes. Or a musical anime.
>when instrumentality occurs but you haven't finished your fat nut:
youtube.com
nobody:
you: *forcing this shitty meme*
Manga is more mainstream than anime, so why don't you just drop this failed attempt at elitism.
Posting a non-meme answer for anyone legitimately interested that hasn't seen this show:
EVA has an enduring legacy because it combines (relatively) Hard Science-Fiction concepts with a deconstruction of Anime's "mecha" genre, beautiful hand-drawn 2D animation and legitimately thoughtful and interesting integration of philosophical concepts, religious concepts and high-tier literature and cinema that came before it.
And I actually mean that last part. People can (and do) joke all the time about "lol too deep 4 U" and "lol SO DEEP", but EVA is one of the only Anime, and even one of the only sci-fi pieces of media, where some actual thought went into the series in order to speculate on some deeper ideas and meanings.
It combines sci-fi action with surreal presentation and narrative or visual influence that ranges from Christian Mysticism to the theories of Freud and Jung to numerous impactful historical events to Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End to the films of Stanley Kubrick.
It's also an overall abstract experience that, even when its baffling, is utterly hypnotic. Visually, it's also filled with utterly striking images that tend to stick with you. There's just a sort of mystique to it that is hard to classify. Orson Scott Card outright said that it's the kind of media that "could inspire the unstable to go out and make their own religion".
It's not perfect, and every once it a while it touched on a tired anime trope that can make you roll your eyes, but EVA is influential and cherished for a reason. There isn't much else like it in the whole sphere of visual entertainment. And that's a hard thing to achieve.
pretty much this
Haven't watched NGE in years, and I'm currently re watching it right now. I'm at around episode 22 and gonna finish the rest of TV and EoE, then rebuilds, in the next few days with my boys.
If I remember, I thought the EoTV was pretty depressing since Shinji accepts instrumentality and basically runs away from human confrontation, and thus runs away from the ying and yang of sadness and happiness from interacting with other people.
I remember not getting EoE at all but reading a bit about the end and it seemed like a happy ending for the two people that actually matter in the series, and the two who have been traumatized the most, Asuka and Shinji, since Asuka finally breaks down her false-ego completely and shows real compassion to Shinji as he's strangling her. I haven't watched Eva in so long so I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly at all.
It's not a deconstruction of mecha, and every anime was hand-drawn back then. In fact, almost every anime is hand-drawn even today.
good post, user
Shinji never accepts instrumentality and both endings are the same ending from different perspectives.
I’m excited to laugh at the new dub, I had a lot of fun laughing at the old dub.
Makes me a little sad normalfags wont watch in Japanese but what can you do?
>*is anno’s greatest directorial achievement*
Bitch I see you on Yea Forums
not-asuka is cute!
Great, now everyone will know we’re both faggots!
Look at these two faggots.
please be trolling
We know literally nothing about the redub. Not even casting.
Imagine how they'll butcher the elevator scene where Kaiji forces himself on Misato.
I'm sure they'll mention how Kaiji is a problematic rapist now in the new dub.
Gay
>It's not a deconstruction of mecha
While it's more a part of the series' set-up rather than its defining narrative, EVA is definitely, at least partially, a deconstruction of what the Mecha genre was in Anime throughout the 80's and early 90's. It goes out of its way to outright defy and/or subvert many of the most prominent tropes of the genre.
>Protagonist teenage pilot is realistically fearful about his role, as well as generally anxious/outright cowardly, as opposed to a Hot-Blooded Man's Man protagonist that rises to the challenge in an inspiring way
>Mechs and enemies for the Mechs to fight based on hard sci-fi and far more organic designs, as opposed to just cloning Gundamns
>Cast of dynamic and outright flawed characters dealing with legitimately traumatic experiences that in several places outright crack under pressure rather than idealized but flat stock characters meant to back up the protagonist
Etc.
>legitimately thoughtful and interesting integration of philosophical concepts
It just bashes them in with dialogue, the only thing I've seen that's less subtle about it is maybe Xenogears.
Bluepill:
>Netflix is going to turn Evangelion into a SJW wankfest!
Redpill:
>Netflix needs to have a legally distinctive script from ADV, so everything will be changed, and instead of accurate subtitles, we’ll just get a transcription of the dub like they always do
These had already been done before, which is why Evangelion wasn't deconstructing anything. It's just that very few people know anything about mecha anime older than Evangelion.
>Mechs and enemies for the Mechs to fight based on hard sci-fi and far more organic designs, as opposed to just cloning Gundamns
Gundam was in the first place trying to come up with more realistic ideas for mecha.
>EVA is one of the only Anime, and even one of the only sci-fi pieces of media
see this is why people shit on evafags and make fun of the 2deep shit
you're either a brainlet or dont actually watch any scifi or anime
>Netflix needs to have a legally distinctive script from ADV
Why?
ADV is dead.
Because their dub is in legal limbo and will be forever. Serious disputes, it’s why we never got a bluray.
As long as it's not an exact copy-paste it's fine. Just need to paraphrase a few things here and there. They don't need to make it completely different
You’ll see.
Evangelion is the Watchmen of anime
It's not only a decontruction of mecha, it also decontructs anime and the very fandom of anime. Hell, Anno even poured his frustration of modern Japanese society into the story. Remember, Japan was in a ression of "the lost decade" in the 90s after the booming 80s.
The "deconstruction" meme is the worst thing TVTropes ever did.
Why do people post about anime on Yea Forums so much? Is it a concerted effort? There's a whole board for anime.
Anime is aired on Television
It's on-topic here, but you'll find that anime is discussed almost everywhere these days.
1. Anime is Kino
2. You’re on an anime website
Absolute fucking retard.
>Name of board is TV
>the show we are discussing aired on TV
Not only that but Eva is pure fucking kino. You're so retarded that you're judging an amazing show just because it was drawn by a bunch of short yellow men in the 90's.
Rumor has it that the cast of Stranger Things is dubbing the characters this time, strictly for Netflix. This is why they stayed silent for so long, and it'll be revealed by the time the episodes are out. 4 more days.
>This is why they stayed silent for so long
Why? How would them doing the dub be the reason it's not revealed? If anything it would make sense to promote it beforehand.

on Yea Forums, you mean? It isn't. /pol/ leaks everywhere, and for some reason people keep spamming Yea Forums in Yea Forums, but other than that people tend to stick to their boards.
I'm on an anime website with dedicated anime boards. Should I go and post about Evangelion in /diy/? Do you think that'll get much traction?
If this was an adaption I would understand it, but it isn't. It's just some twats who can't manage to make successful threads in Yea Forums
I'm not, I love Evangelion and I love anime. I probably watch more of it than you ever have. I go to Yea Forums to dscuss it, and I come to Yea Forums to discuss live-action TV shows. The weather is aired on TV. Should I make a thread about the weather?
>Looks cloudy outside, Yea Forums. They said it'll rain but I don't think it will. Why is the weatherman such a hack?
10/10 image limit hit in 20 minutes
The analysis and side-by-side comparisons will come thick and fast though.
I don't see how they could divert significantly from the original and "get away" with it.
You could argue that they just don't care, but this would surely be a blunder of massive proportions.
>interesting integration of philosophical concepts, religious concepts
All religious imagery in the series was done to look cool. Even Anno himself admitted it. There is no symbolism here. The Judeo-Christian symbolism is in the show because Western religions are very alien in Japanese culture, so adding them in various ways was considered "hip and cool" to Japanese viewers. It's not that hard to figure out. Only Western weebs think that it's "deep" when it never was to begin with.
Yea Forums is an anime site, and a topic can be appropriate for more than one board. /k/ for example has continuous anime threads that pertain to /k/ topics.
>on Yea Forums, you mean?
Anywhere.
>Netflix is going to turn Evangelion into a SJW wankfest!
While I know that Netflix is run top to bottom by foaming-at-the-mouth SJW extremists, I don't see how they could do this. They're not remaking the series; they're just doing a new dub of the same script. They aren't making new media so they're limited as to what, if any, alterations they could possibly make to the narrative.
The only way they could accomplish this would be to do what Funimation did with Dragon Maid and insert brief but blatantly cringey interjections of SJW talking-points into the script. While that would both ruin the new dub AND totally be something Netflix WOULD do, I doubt they will and even then it'd really be the furthest extent they could SJW-up a classic property in this specific instance.
>Should I go and post about Evangelion in /diy/? Do you think that'll get much traction?
No, but the other users probably won't mind. They're a pretty serene bunch.
>It just bashes them in with dialogue
If the problem with EVA was that "it's themes are TOO obvious", viewers wouldn't so widely claim to have been "confused" by them.
good taste
Well okay then, but why is this posted here practically every day?
>NEW NETFLIX DUB OMG AREN'T YOU EXCITED???
No... because who cares? It's a two decade old show, I've already seen it, and I don't give a shit about dubs. The only thing that'll come of this is ome normies who've never watched it before will watch it, and probably think "well that wasn't as great as I'd heard" and that's about it.
>viewers wouldn't so widely claim to have been "confused" by them.
That's just people getting distracted by the crosses.
>you're either a brainlet or dont actually watch any scifi or anime
Name a movie or show with an equal number of episodes that touches on even half of the themes and concepts that EVA does. Popular modern scifi and TV barely even makes an effort any more to touch on disparate concepts like these, let alone explore them. Even relatively good examples of modern western scifi like Altered Karbon, The Man in the High Castle or Ex Machina really only manage surface-level analysis of the topics they touch on, and that's if they even bother trying.
the people who like this show are testosterone deficient faggots
>why is this posted here practically every day?
It's a bot.
>Why? How would them doing the dub be the reason it's not revealed?
I dunno, man. Netflix is fucking stupid as always. They wanted actual teenagers to voice teenage characters, so prepare to hear some awkward, hammy voice-overs from coming out of the mouths of Shinji, Asuka, and Rei from a trio of people who've never had much experience voice acting department before. Also, high profile actors will be voicing the rest of the adult cast, so prepare for artificially forced excuses for "emotional" dialogue through characters like Misato, Gendo, and Ritsuko, except unlike the old corny ADV dub, it'll be like a stilted Disney-tier Ghibli dub. It's gonna be bad.
Because it's a really really really fucking good show and people are excited to talk about NGE again
Poster of A friend of mine actually used that exact comparison and I came to agree with it.
While neither makes it the WHOLE crux of their story, EVA very much does to the Mecha Anime genre what Watchmen did to Superhero comics.
It's almost like Anime is a large category of Television & Film or something.
>people are excited to talk about NGE again
>again
But what was stopping them before? Why is such great significance being put on it coming to Netflix? Netflix is dying, all the different networks are pulling their stuff off of it to create their own streaming services.
>being this autistic
>with an equal number of episodes
fuck off with your arbitrary requirements you absolute faggot
people dont hate eva, they hate the retarded fans who watch some explanation video from youtube and think no other piece of media ever included philosophy
>modern
why the fuck does this matter
Almost like it's so large it has its own dedicated board or something.
I'm an oldfag here. People posting anime threads on Yea Forums this much is a recent phenomenon.
>autistic
my post got 4 replies so I gave 4 responses
>Even Anno himself admitted it.
Anno is the IRL version of an unreliable narrator.
Taking his statements at face-value is like actually listening to Moore when he claims Rorschach was the "bad guy" in Watchmen.
People have outright picked apart the ways EVA integrates references to religion, and other topics for that matter, and it can be shown to be cohesive and intentional. That wasn't achieved on accident, and if it was Anno is the single greatest writer in the history of fiction if he can literally just accidentally shit-out cohesive symbology.
You underestimate the number of people who don't torrent or don't come across anime unless it's streaming somewhere. It's not like years ago when you go on a forum and get a bunch of old anime recommended to you. Everyone just watches seasonal stuff
>my post got 4 replies so I gave 4 responses
Anons are programmed to freak out if they see someone reply to multiple posts at once. There doesn't seem to be any particular reason for it.
Imagine if this poster and the other whiners like him were this autistic and intolerant about enforcing the rules against actress dumps and waifufag threads on Yea Forums.
Yea Forums would become a much better board if you cucks were actually consistent.
But instead, you pitch a fit about a TV show being discussed on "Yea Forums - Television & Film", and then go back to posting in a 200+ reply thread about what Brie Larson's sweat tastes like.
Depends on who "everyone" is. People outside anime communities are still watching Death Note and don't have the foggiest idea what is airing unless it's MHA or AOT or something like that.
zoom zoom
You seem to be talking broadly here. Are you talking about how it is in Yea Forums? There are NGE threads there all the fucking time.
He never even said that but people keep parroting it like it's true. The only similar thing he said was only about the name(it sounds cool) and it wasn't even a proper interview. He was talking to a bunch of middle school students for a reality show.
There are other staff who said something to that effect but I wouldn't trust anything. Multiple people involved with production have made multiple statements over the years and they are inconsistent and contradict each other all the time. There is no way to discern when they are telling the truth or not so it's safe to just ignore everything that has been said after 1995 on the subject
>pirate
user, literally every fucking kido watching anime right now is doing that.
>my post got 4 replies so I gave 4 responses
You're outing yourself as a newfag. That's not how "replies" on Yea Forums are supposed to work or ever have, and the structure of Yea Forums outright discourages doing this. You're outing yourself as a Tumblr-transplant.
Every fucking day
An Evangelion thread
It's so fucked up
This. The quote is not only constantly taken out of context, but it's also frequently modified and changed by people repeating it.
There's one Brie Larson autist just like the OP is the one NGE autist.
Yea Forums is nothing but "I gotta get my posting quota done for the day!" autists. Imagine how good Yea Forums could be without any of these sorts of threads. And instead you're arguing in favour of them?
You're outing yourself as an NPC who is programmed to freak out when he sees multiple responses in one post.
You can reply to 10 posts at once if you want to. There's nothing about Yea Forums that prevents this.
Misato's VA and Asuka's VA in English are great. The former's Jap VA is too cutesy for a broken slur yet hardass like Misato. Jap VA for Asuka is great too though. Tiffany Grant is good for Asuka because she's a turbo-autist about the character.
So you're saying that I should make an individual post for each response? Nothing about the structure of Yea Forums encourages that, it's inconvenient, doing that could lead people to assume my 4 posts are from different responders, the structure of Yea Forums actually encourages you to do it how I did it, if anything.
>claims I'm outing myself as a newfag
>needlessly hits return twice in his post
Look at the post above yours, that's how oldfags post.
>Jap VA for Asuka is great too though.
How can you say this when you've heard her attempt to speak German?
t. has never watched mecha other than eva
Gundam 0079 does everything eva does but it's not shit
Because the German is a few irrelevant lines. Grant getting praised for it like it's a big deal is stupid for the same reason.
ADR is a tricky thing. You want to match lip movements with the language your dubbing, while still preserving semantic meaning being expressed, in addition to emotional and tonal consistency, all the while making sound natural to dub speakers.
A good dub is insanely hard to do right and NGE's dub was one of the few that did it correctly. Netflix will probably fuck it up though.
>Protagonist teenage pilot is realistically fearful about his role, as well as generally anxious/outright cowardly, as opposed to a Hot-Blooded Man's Man protagonist that rises to the challenge in an inspiring way
Who is Amuro Ray?
>Mechs and enemies for the Mechs to fight based on hard sci-fi and far more organic designs
Gundam 0079 is hard sci-fi because they're piloting robotic mech suits that were designed specifically to look like humanoid combat robots, whereas in Eva they wuz aliens and shiet
>Cast of dynamic and outright flawed characters dealing with legitimately traumatic experiences that in several places outright crack under pressure rather than idealized but flat stock characters meant to back up the protagonist
Who is the cast of Gundam 0079?
Based and redpilled.
14 year old me wanted to fugg Asuka.
27 year old me wants to hug her and support her to be the kind, nurturing and intelligent young woman I know she can be.
>0079 does what Eva does
Cringe. I would have accepted Zambot-3 or Ideon, but citing 0079 outs you hard.
>gundam is too mainstream so it doesn't count
>all EVA units have male-based bodies (Adam), but female souls (Lilith-Rei, Yui, Asuka's mom)
>all the trannies are gonna flock to this like flies on shit
No. NO. NOOOOOOOOOOOO
My nigga. I want to do all of that and still nut in her though, although the nurture is more prevalent over the nut
Miring depth on that high bar squat
EOE is the last two episodes of NGE from the perspective of what's happening in the real world (Third Impact), which is why the two episodes that comprise the film are 25' and 26', as a complement to episodes 25 and 26 of NGE.
The latter two take place in Shinji's mind as Third Impact is taking place, which is why he is nearly comatose in EOE, as the emotional trauma of the previous few episodes literally caused his brain to shut down until he finally rejects Instrumentality at the end of episode 26/26'.
The deconstruction and religious imagery serve as wall dressing (albeit very well thought out and visually stunning well dressing) for what the core of the show was about: character study of how to deal with depression and human interaction when one knows it's easy for the other party to hurt the other.
It's kino.
Spoiler that shit, user. These guys are going to watch Eva for the first time in 4 days with the shitty new dub.
/diy/ is probably the most friendly and helpful board on this site.
>spoiler for a 2 decade old show
back to reddo
Did you not read my post, you fucking brainlet? I was pointing out how apparently all these fags are going to watch it for the first time in 4 days.
Grant's German was actually decent though.
I met her at a con once. Nice lady and passionate about what she's done but definitely a weirdo, even by Yea Forums standards.
>Grant's German was actually decent though.
It is. My point is that it doesn't matter even if it's perfect because it's only a few lines with no significance. I've seen people say she's better than the Japanese VA just because of that.
I'm fine with nutting in her after she's matured enough to realize her feelings about me are just puppy love for someone who takes care of her (like with Kaiji), but if she hits 18 and is still romantically in love you bet your ass I'm smashing.
Ah, I see. I like Grant and think she's one of the highlights of the dub, but claiming she's better than the Jap VA based on one line of dialogue when the Jap cast for EVA is pretty much perfect, is pretty disingenuous and I agree with you.
Nope, Gundam doesn’t tackle what Eva does besides the SURFACE shit like “muh don’t want to get into the robot”
Existing in the first place is the worst thing TV Tropes ever did
>"muh don’t want to get into the robot”
That's exactly why people keep saying that NGE is a "deconstruction of mecha."
Those people are retarded.
this is the breaking bad of anime.
aka decent but flawed on first watch and fucking abysmal anytime after that
>Nice lady and passionate about what she's done but definitely a weirdo, even by Yea Forums standards.
It's not nice to bully autistic women.
youtube.com
Hey fuck you, man. Code Gayass is hard to watch on later watch throughs only because the action has gaps in it while they try to develop the Black Knights or See Too or some other shit. If you already know all that then there is a dip around the middle of each season, but it's still pretty good m8.
it's death note lite. once you know all the tricks the cast are going to pull off it's not as fulfilling, because there's nothing left for the show other than neat character designs and clever (not even good or deep, just clever) writing.
only cool moment of the show was when he gayassed god and even then there was very little setup to that payoff.
Nope. Gay Ass is a beautiful trainwreck, but it’s no Evangelion.
Give me shows you like and i’ll recommend some back if you want

Witch version is Netflix relaseing? any info on that?
The original broadcast? the extended cut? the 'pg13' version ?
Yeah I meant anime.
Watch any other Makoto Shinkai Film, A Silent Voice, Raxephan, Infinite Ryvius, Bokurano, Now and Then Here and There, YuYu Hakusho and Gintama.
Original broadcast has not been released in any official capacity since the director's cut exists so there's pretty much no way that's the one. It's most likely going to be the same release as the latest jap blu-ray with new english dub and subs. There may be some additional work done on episode 16 but who knows.
based recs, thanks user.
>Original broadcast has not been released in any official capacity since the director's cut exists
? I'm confused. I have two different versions of 24-26 on DVD, is there a third?
No problem, wish I could do this on Yea Forums but you know how that goes
Don't you mean 21-24? They are the ones that received Extended(which I called director's but that's what I meant). I'm pretty sure 25 and 26 were not modified from their original aired versions
Naw, I have Collection 0:8 and Director's Cut Genesis Reborn out of this collection. Both sets are the Kaworu ep and two-part finale.
For anyone that recognizes Director's Cut: Resurrection, what the fuck is it? I've never heard of it until I looked up this image to respond to this user.
Nvm just found it, Director's Cut: Resurrection is 21-24. It's the only one not in my collection so I probably haven't seen these versions before.
*21-23
Are there even any differences in those episodes?
The extended 21-24 add from 3 to 6 extra minutes per episode
Just looked it up. 25-26 are the same afaik, 24 has some extra scenes
Loser
If you haven't seen the director's cut of 21-24 you definitely should. Some of the changes and additions are cosmetic but some can be kind of big(especially for asukafags in 22)
Haters goin’ hate
I'm going to go out on a limb here at the risk of looking like a casual because I've recently branched out from the classics to try and discover new(er) anime. I downloaded a few Netflix anime. I liked the Castlevania one and the Violet Evergarden one. I also liked Attack on Titan before I caught up to it mid Season 3 last year and I'm not gonna get strung along for 20 years with those shonens.
She's a turbo-autist and I love her for it.
Castlevania isn't an anime.
Just watched 22 DC. What was added from the TV release? Been too long between viewings for me to spot differences
Yup, that is exactly how she acted when I met her. It's adorable and cringe at the same time.
I got her to chuckle when I asked "Who is best girl and why is it Asuka?" She went on a 20 min rant that got cut off because the police came in and asked me to escort my two drunk friends out of the con. Good times.
Yes it is, based on a video game. If you're using the logic of "original anime" then any anime based on a manga "isn't an anime".
People that haven't seen fucking NGE in 2019 should be permabanned from the entirety of Yea Forums. I mean come on, how much of a newfag AND normalfag do you even have to be?
It's pretty damn good though. Even if the actual story is a little meh, the characters, animation and voice acting are all great.
Anime is animation produced in Japan you retard.
Besides being loosely based on a Japanese game series, it has no relation to Japan. It was made in America with Korean help.
90% of Japanese voice actors, especially women, are hilariously bad at doing any sort of Western accent
Oh, so we're going to split hairs and go full blown ACKSHUALLY. I was trying to give as many newer "anime" I liked for that user's little recommendation post but I guess here we are.
I'm not splitting hairs. It's just flat-out not an anime.
>It's
what did they mean by this
Asuka is American, dumb fuck
i'm looking forward to having an excuse to get drunk and rewatch the show
i only ever watched it with subs before though so i won't be able to compare it to the old dub
ALL WE ARE IS DUST IN THE WIND
Why the fuck would anyone watch anime dubbed?
Okay then, I supplied some shows for user's little recommendation post, as he asked for in the first place. So if he's still here I hope he can be more helpful than this pedantic poster I just replied to.
Spongebob Squarepants is my favorite anime.
It's always bothered me how much they try emulating the American accent but it just comes out fucking terribly. I know America has a strong presence in Japan but they'd be much better off going for British English
>(most) British English = non-rhotic
>(most) American English = rhotic
>Japanese = non-rhotic
>Japanese speaking English = rhotic... and just awful
It's not pedantic. Castlevania is not an anime.
You're correct. It has anime-styled art and based on a Japanese video game. Is that what you wanted to hear? Now hopefully recommend user is still here since I supplied him with shows, which was what he requested, not specifically anime.
Watch Hellsing Ultimate, Hyouka, Death Note, Gurren Lagann, Aria and FLCL.
Thanks, I've seen all of those except Hyouka and Aria so I'll throw those two on my list of stuff to watch.
I don't know why Hellsing or Hellsing Ultimate isn't talked about more on Yea Forums desu. It's a pretty great show.
Then try Parasyte, Higurashi When They Cry and Casshern Sins
do you know how popular NGE is?
You sound like a fucking manchild, my man
Let me guess you also went to see Endgame several times because you wanted it to beat Avatar?
