>When he realizes he will never have a good live action movie ever again.
When he realizes he will never have a good live action movie ever again
Man of Steel was absolute kino.
What the fuck went wrong?
>What the fuck went wrong?
Warner brothers. Thats what
With the capeshit trend winding down after Endgame and DC still being a total disaster area. By the time Warner Bros finally does make a good Superman film nobody will want to go see one because people will be sick of them.
Thats assuming they even bother to try to make another one.
>Man of Steel was absolute kino.
It was decent. Shame the sequels had to make everyone want to kill the talent involved.
don't some supe fags insist there's really never been a great live-action superman movie
>don't some supe fags insist there's really never been a great live-action superman movie
Not since Superman II and that movie really is showing it's age. It rivals the Adam West Batman for how goddamn goofy and ridiculous it is. Superman hasn't really had a movie thats a proper adaptation of his comics the way Batman has for his ever. Not counting those direct to DVD anime movies.
has krypto ever been in live action stuff?
>has krypto ever been in live action stuff?
He showed up in Swamp thing and Supergirl if i recall. It's like Scooby doo. A Superhero having an animal sidekick works in a cartoon or comic. In a live action film, unless you handwave it away with him being a genetic experiment like Rocket Racoon, it makes it utterly impossible to take anything seriously.
What are the odds an Alien species would evolve to not only look like human beings, but that also an Alien species would evolve something that looks exactly like a goddamn dog!?
Superman is simply too overpowered and he’s a shit hero
>spends his time dicking around as a reporter when he could use his otherwordly abilities to save millions of people across the world
>b-b-but, he’s not supposed to interfere in human conflicts
This comes across as a shitty copout. Sure, he does not have to deal with political problems but he could literally end crime in most places. Things like this are simply too hard to ignore even if he is a a character made for kids
>This comes across as a shitty copout.
Injustice proved that Superman getting involved in human conflicts is a bad thing a VERY bad thing.
The old 'Supes is too powerful to make him relatable' mantra ruined any chances long ago.
It's total bullshit though. He has loved ones and exploitable weaknesses. For once I'd like to see a proper Brainiac film.
Back in the 80s they were stuck with the conundrum of having valuable ip but books that wouldn't sell. They were a hair's length away from a deal with Marvel to keep the comic train going as at the time they were outselling them something like 4 to 1.
Now it's the exact opposite. I have to wonder if it's crossed any of the higher up's minds to have marvel/disney do the heavy lifting for them.
There's a story there somewhere about a super hero pretending to be human rather than a human masquerading as a superhero.
>Now it's the exact opposite. I have to wonder if it's crossed any of the higher up's minds to have marvel/disney do the heavy lifting for them.
Warner Brothers would never consider even leasing Superman out to another Studio. Do you really want Superman to be in the same position Spider-Man was and still kind've is with the Marvel/Sony Custody battle? They would rather not make money on a potential IP than risk losing the IP to another Studio.
Also. Do you really want to give a corporation like Disney that has done a ton of shitty things, that is currently having a bit of a Maoist Social Justice Warrior purge of it's own legacy the keys to fucking Superman?
"Nobody wants to look up to you anymore Superman. They dont want to strain their necks"
>The old 'Supes is too powerful to make him relatable' mantra ruined any chances long ago.
They made him kind've relatable with Man Of Steel. True he wasn't the idealistic Superman people wanted, but he was at least acting like a human being at points.
Then the sequel happened and now we're back to square 0.
>It's total bullshit though. He has loved ones and exploitable weaknesses.
He's Superman. We know he's going to win. We know he's going to beat the bad guy. As such, theres no stakes.
This comic is balery a 6/10 for that scene alone.
Moore is a fucking hack, Watchmen is his inly true masterpiece.
Sure, Swamp and Miracleman are good, but V for vendetta is fucking embarrasing.
>We know he's going to beat the bad guy. As such, theres no stakes.
Dark Knight Rises proves Batman is exactly the same, even with no powers. What's the excuse?
I liked it.
but you're wrong, Man of Steel and BvS were kino af
I'd like to see an arthouse bizarro movie.
>DCEU is too dark and there's no jokes
mos was legit kino also superman is the best superhero
>Dark Knight Rises proves Batman is exactly the same, even with no powers. What's the excuse?
Batman can endure trauma. Lose loved ones. Get injured. Can bleed. and actually have character development (well as much as DC allows before they reboot again).
You have Superman have any of those things he ceases to be Superman. Best case we get violent edgelord Mexican Superman. Worst case? Injustice Super-Dick.
>but you're wrong, Man of Steel and BvS were kino af
MOS was decent. BVS made everyone literally want to literally murder Zack Snyder.
"Superman kills a Terrorist!" So did fucking Iron man you entitled shits!
due time will judge mos as a masterpiece
I doubt that given they're never going to make a followup to it.
He clearly did try to mitigate collateral damage in the movie. But that wasn't goo enough for people. The standards they set for Superman are just too high.
Too bad BVS killed all the goodwill people had towards Man Of Steel. I thought it was good setup for a cinematic universe.
>Superman are just too high
hmmm, maybe because he's goddamn superman and he's literally meant to save everyone and everything
>tfw no Man of Steel 2
Fuck Warner and fuck jews.
it was because the entire project was sabotaged by WB and to a lesser extent rotten tomatoes and the morons that give it any credence. it got poor ratings it had mediocre returns and WB pushed the panic button.
If snyder was allowed to flesh out the universe as he planned we would have actually gotten legit capeshit kino
>putting a cape on a dog
>hmmm, maybe because he's goddamn superman and he's literally meant to save everyone and everything
Despite the christ Imagery he's not Jesus. He can't save everyone.
>he's literally meant to save everyone and everything
That's unrealistic though. No matter how powerful Superman is he simply can't save everyone 24/7. Don't you want Clark to have a life?
youtu.be
>it was because the entire project was sabotaged by WB
100% agreed. I would say I hope they sell the DC characters to someone else. But then I realized Disney are the only ones who could afford it, and no way WB would just give their competition more ammunition to use against them.
Damn I forgot Superman had a superdog companion.
>hmmm, maybe because he's goddamn superman and he's literally meant to save everyone and everything
"I can change almost anything. But I can't change human nature."
>I would say I hope they sell the DC characters to someone else.
MGM and maybe Paramount. Otherwise I rather WB actually make the effort to learn from their mistakes.
What was his problem?
wb actually has a better track record with dc and allowing directors to implement their vision its just they shot themselves in the foot trying to compete and catch up to marvel
>meant to
uh could you maybe pack up this garbage phrase, grasp it tightly and then jump off a bridge please
literally the most retarded thing I've read on Yea Forums in quite some time
>wb actually has a better track record with dc and allowing directors to implement their vision
WB's biggest problem is either being all for their directors creative freedom. Look no further than the Matrix Sequels or anything directed by Eastwood after El Torino.
DC keeps fucking up trying to make movies for adults.
>MGM
Bankrupt and barely exist as a studio anymore.
>and maybe Paramount.
Was hit pretty hard by the recession and has a reputation as a bit of the Flophouse. Smurfs, Chipmunks, That freaky Sonic movie? Fuck no. They would make the DC films that everyone hated look like masterpieces by comparison.
>What was his problem?
The fact that despite being the most powerful being in existence, he couldn't keep mankind from killing itself in nuclear war without morally compromising himself and his friends.
>DC keeps fucking up trying to make movies for adults.
Nothing is inherently wrong with that. I like Pixar movies, but if every movie was like a Pixar movie I'd get very bored very quickly.
Besides Superman has been around for over 70 years. Shouldn't his character of all things be able to speak to adults?
>DC films that everyone hated
>D
You people are still clinging to this? God that's so pathetic I just spit out my beer laughing.
Looking forward to hearing about how Trump could have been great in 10 years, if only Duh Librulz hadn't sabotaged him.
>wears ludicrous costume with underwear on top of leggings
>has every power conceivable under the sun
>is morally good to a fault
>cant be killed
>literally an anime character
yeah i wonder why he doesn't exclusively appeal to adults
>Shouldn't his character of all things be able to speak to adults?
This. Superman should speak to adults. I'd say Superman's early days was fairly mature so it's not out of the ordinary.
>You people are still clinging to this?
Yes because it's true.
You are why WB is having a hard time these days.Directors refuse the gig becuase they don't know how to make Superman relatable. That's a load of crap.
I mean, you can keep saying it, it doesn't make it true. MoS was mediocre and flawed at best. Pointless characters, lack of clear motivations and grittiness with no point or grounding. It was a terrible movie and Snyder is an awful director. He's Michael Bay with no self-awareness.
>Yes because it's true
no its not.
>it got poor ratings
because it was poor
>it had mediocre returns
because it was average at best and no one gave a shit
>and WB pushed the panic button
because they realised they hired the biggest hack dierector to orchestrate the dceu and were in a constant course correction
Superman has nearly infinite potential with the right script and director, it could be the Lord of the Rings of the space opera genre.
>It was a terrible movie and Snyder is an awful director.
>no its not.
I mean, you can keep saying it, doesn't make it true. Let's say Disney made Man of Steel exactly the same with Snyder, no changes. Would you then support it religiously like you do with mcu films?
DC kino comes from their animation
He also appeared in Smallville from what I remember.
No. I don't religiously support MCU. You're the one whose religious in your rotten tomatoes disney obsession.
God, I'm laughing. This site is truly filled to the brim with tremendous faggots.
unlike you DCucks, people dont align themselves to a studio. a disney mos would be just as bad.
Also why do the DCucks have such a huge chip on their shoulders - stop playing the victim retards
>He also appeared in Smallville
Yep.
They're mad that their memes didn't work. They tried to shill for WB but it turns out there is such a thing as objective reality.
>Also why do the DCucks have such a huge chip on their shoulders - stop playing the victim retards
How can we not play the victim when WB and Disney fuck us fans over every time. As a fan of Superman in particular I'm attacked from "everyone". You're constant bombardment is part of why there is no movement with Superman for example. Maybe try and help us out for once and we can both enjoy all comic films as one community.
>Mediocre cringe memesfrkm mousefags
Yeah no
I am helping you. Stop posting on Yea Forums and you'll thank me.
>Stop posting on Yea Forums and you'll thank me.
So I quit and you don't? How does that solve anything?
I'm not a frothing retard like you, so it doesn't ruin my life.
>I'm not a frothing retard like you, so it doesn't ruin my life.
/thread. Another thread is ruined because we're talking about Superman. Activates your almonds doesn't it?
Playing the victim. Another thing Superman would never do that his fans always do
Sometimes I wonder if we were even watching the same movie. I'll leave it be at that.
. . . and then she'd sue him for 'ruining her death' like that man in the Incredibles did.
Most of the people who pay money to go see these movies made their opinions very clear. We who actually liked the DC movies are just gonna have to learn to live with it.
not going to dig through all this Yea Forumsmblr speak
>Superman is idealistic in Superman returns. >Nobody goes to see it.
>Superman is realistic in Man Of Steel >Everyone hates it.
The answer is clear to me as day. People just fucking hate Superman. Thats why.
which just shows how terrible the world has become. supes is literally everything good about humanity
why do people like cap America so much i mean he's literally superman without all the powers
don't flatter yourself Yea Forumsmblr tranny, I've seen seen similar characters done far better and in less pussified ways
superman is best superhero. don't bother trying to change my mind it's objective fact
>why do people like cap America so much i mean he's literally superman without all the powers
Cause he's a human being who puts his life on the line every time he goes out and fights evil. He can still be shot. He can still be hurt. Theres a real possibility he might die. He's the best of Batmans vulnerability and Supermans Idealism without the grimdark of the former or the OP plot breaking powers of the latter.
>supes is literally everything good about humanity
If Superman really existed. We'd be lucky if he turned out even like MOS Superman. More likely he'd turn out like Brightburn.
>superman is best superhero.
>Hasn't had a good movie in 50 goddamn years.
Sure buddy. Sure.
>I've seen seen similar characters done far better and in less pussified ways
Name ten that aren't Captain America.
>saves warner brothers
kino
. She also has a great ass that should really be the title of a book.
She's hot... she is. Her face and mannerisms could be any of the many examples of female sexuality you would find anywhere on any world I know about, even in the US where every other planet is male. She is a goddess and if anyone wants to take her down a notch they could do so if they chose. I've met many of them since I've been working here, and to say I've gotten quite into her is an understatement. She is a goddess, and a lady with a soul.
When I was talking with the young lady about this I asked her what her favorite movie was and her favorite book to date. To answer this I was told that I would have to say The Matrix. She gave me an out of context answer that I will never know for the rest of my life, but she was right. In her case, she said, her favorite book is "The Matrix of Power". And this girl is an idiot, and a good teacher. She knows everything that comes with it as much as its come with her. I could write a blogpost about her, and probably a million others like her, but I will not be able to explain how special and amazing she is.
That was literally decades ago. Also. Have you read their recent output in the comics? Bruce Timm has become a creepy sex pervert, and Paul Dini kind've went under the radar after he got booted off of the writing team of Arkham Knight. Recruiting them would be like recruiting post holy terror Frank Miller. No.
You are absolutely right. It was a good Superman origin story. What it desperately needed was 2 more movies after it continuing his personal development.
Movie 1: Origin movie where he is very reckless.
Movie 2: Starts to become the Superman we know saving cats from trees and helping old woman cross the street. By the end of the movie he wins the respect of Metropolis and by extension, the movie viewer.
Movie 3: This is where you do death of superman as a stand alone Superman movie after you spent two movie developing his character and showing that he is a hero to Metropolis making the death more impactful.
They only did movie 1 and then sent his character to play with the other DC characters and due to this, Batman was 100% justified in trying to kill him but the story was overall retarded
If Superman sided with the police. Black Lives Matter would be smearing and doxxing him and threatening to expose his secret identity if he didn't conform to their morals.
>his is where you do death of superman
Death of Superman is garbage and I'm glad they used it right out of the gate. If you want to kill Superman off use some other story
>. She also has a great ass that should really be the title of a book.
I assume your either talking about Power Girl or Supergirl?
You're overthinking it. Just do a live action Max Fleischer Supes cartoon or toss in the Rock as Black Adam, who Supes has no defense for.
Brainiac would be good but for the uninitiated it'd probably seem too close to Ultron.
>You are absolutely right. It was a good Superman origin story. What it desperately needed was 2 more movies after it continuing his personal development.
That was snyders original plan (more or less) before WB mandated him to make BVS. Well we're never going to see that because of goddam WB. and thats why were not getting another Superman movie ever again. Much less one thats actually good
I agree its stupid but there is no way they will never use it and we will see it again I guarantee you within the next 10-15 years. It's one of those stories like Dark Phoenix that everyone knows about that will keep getting redone due to notoriety but the studios will continue fucking up,
What do you think they might be like?
Well the title seems pretty accurate that the two of them would look so much like each other but I would say Power Girl wouldn't be as big of an ass on screen for a comic book since Supergirl is not as much of an ass.
That being said they both are both super cool and have an interesting history. I honestly have not seen any real evidence that shows they are any kind of match up yet so maybe they would be great in a movie.
Well when should we expect to see these girls? I'm curious at what point I'll see Power Girl and Supergirl side by side again to see how they fit into the continuity or should the two of them remain separate characters?
I don't know...maybe that's just me being selfish (and I should know better then to write my own character to be that selfish), but I really would like to see them side by side again, especially in comics.
They have had plenty of time to get together since the beginning of the show, in which time they had a couple of interspecies kisses, but there isn't too much of a history with either of them yet.
>Just do a live action Max Fleischer Supes cartoon
Those worked in the 1940's. They wouldn't really work today.
You have a point. The only thing I care to see come out of the MCU is a good Spidey flick that's not fucking high school Peter or loaded down with all of Stan Lee's retconning influence. As a reader of all the spidey books for years it pissed me off to no end to turn the character into something he's not every single time.
I'd settle for a ROM film but now that GG has permanently made the cosmic side of Marvel comedic I'd rather they not make it.
hit piece written by (((Clarke kent)))
>Well when should we expect t
They could have Supergirl fill the role of idealistic Superhero while keeping Superman more or less the same as he was in MOS. You could have him try to be a father figure to her which might actually give him some character development that isn't fucked up by the studio like it was in justice league.
Probably right. They are pretty kino though.
it had a good trailer that was about it
>when Superman grabs the Japanese bad guy and says "Hey hold on there little guy"
>Man of Steel was absolute kino.
>The only thing I care to see come out of the MCU is a good Spidey flick that's not fucking high school Peter or loaded down with all of Stan Lee's retconning influence.
Maybe we'll get both the good Superman movie I want to see and that Spider-Man without retconning influence if Paramount ever gets the head out of their ass and makes a good Invincible movie.
When was this made? No way this would get published today.
hi bootlicker
Somewhere around 2010.
I'm not saying he should. I'm just saying thats the way they would write him.
Kek dickhead Supes is best Supes.
That was a comic from the forties. Superman barely speaks in that movie.
Well we're never going to get kek supes on the big screen. I mean lets just be honest. If Superman was real, he'd have voted Republican in pretty much every election.
Yeah comic writers are pretty out of touch
What a shame.
Movie writers even moreso.

indeed
"But Superman never kills!"
Ah. The silver age. Where they drew the cover before they even wrote a script.
He can only kill his enemies with his powers. Well, it's definitely not fine. So, how many victims is Superman capable of killing before he dies? Let's go through this and find out. (By the way, remember that he is "godly" to a degree, and while this may have little to do with how he killed Superman, considering that he is the hero, then it should be pretty good. His actions seem divine to this point, because they seem to go above and beyond the norm in almost every way. He seems to be more than human to his fellow man, yet so unlike most other mortals, Superman is still quite powerful as well.)
Well, Superman killed Batman, who was a hero as well, and also some villains in the Batman Family. Not so much Batman, as some of the other characters around him. How many people Superman killed? According to Wonder Woman, Superman killed all the "superheroes". How many? We know that Superman killed Batman. How many do you think he killed Batman? What about the other characters of the Teen Titans? Do you think Superman killed them as well? Not very many, but we will give him at least eight kills.
Do you recognize the faces of every hero Superman killed?
>I'd settle for a ROM film but now that GG has permanently made the cosmic side of Marvel comedic I'd rather they not make it.
Theres just not a market for 'serious' capeshit anymore. Doesn't help that the ones that tried to be more mature fucked up royally.

Name ten that aren't japanese and/or corny AF.
And that's the way things sort of have always been and still are." So, why the choice to include such a violent death sequence at the end? Clark was "very, very angry." Warner Bros. didn't want to make such an awkward, violent way for the hero to kill off the Joker. The studio also decided that killing off Superman would make the whole Batman-Batman team look bad, according to Snyder. "We're trying to show him as more of a character, as opposed to a vigilante," says Snyder.
Now, this kind of violent death doesn't really reflect Superman's character in any way. I mean, he's not a killing machine, in the sense that, when he loses his powers, he goes to the bank and pulls out a handgun and kills someone. But Snyder's idea of the character — the way he acts, his morals, his motivations — he's much simpler than the person who was killed. So the death of the Joker was a very hard sell for The Batman. "That death sequence we've developed was about a character who does not have the luxury of a life of peace," says Snyder. In fact, by the time he left JLA in 1992 and turned to the Justice League movie he never saw the Joker in his life again.
I won't play by your rules, Yea Forumsmblr tranny. You asked for 10 and I named them. Japan long ago surpassed your kike puppet propaganda mouthpieces in the superhero genre.

Whats that lassie? user is beating a dead horse?
Using it as a vehicle for his passion project instead of making a Superman film.
In fairness to Superman 2 that movie was heavily fucked over during production. They ended up firing original director Richard Donner after he'd finished about 70% of the film and got in Dick Lester, who did the Beatles' Hard Day's Night and Help!, to finish it. Sadly to get director's credit he had to have at least 60%(ish) of the film be his own work so he had to reshoot a ton. Plus Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman refused to return after Donner was fired so Brando was cut out of the film and Hackman only appears in footage shot by Donner. And the Dick Lester footage was where the goofy, slapstick humour came from. As a result it's half a truly great, taking it seriously, superhero epic and the other half is a kinda three stooges-esque, goofy, slapstick comedy.
>As a result it's half a truly great, taking it seriously, superhero epic and the other half is a kinda three stooges-esque, goofy, slapstick comedy.
Will we ever get a Superman movie that's 100% epic?
that's why you need to hire them as a team. paul dini can get smacked everytime he turns into a fag, and bruce timm can get smacke.... actually maybe we need a little perversion.
>pic not related but since it's a supes thread
>Man of Steel was absolute kino
>actually maybe we need a little perversion
In a Superman movie? Fuck no.
Nothing to be toxic about. Jesus. Aint no playin round here.
he never had a good live action movie ever you fuckin faggot
Well we got Superman 1978 which other than the ending gambit being a bit fucking stupid and some of the flying shots (although a lot of the shots are actually pretty good for the 70s, it's just the blue-screen shots that look horrendous) looking dated is a really great film. Mostly because Richard Donner actually got to finish it.
Again, That has not aged well.
literally every capekino
Superman 1978's alright. It's literally just dated thanks to 4 factors: 1: Blue-screen composite shots (although they've apparently fixed those in the recent 4K release but I don't fucking own a 4K tv so I can't confirm) 2: The ending where Superman flies around the earth really fast to turn back time, although that was supposed to be the ending of Superman 2 which they were filming at the same time which brings us to... 3: The fact that Superman 2 was supposed to be essentially the 2nd half of the movie, hence why there's a lot of buildup in Superman 1 for a fairly small climax and 4: the fact that there's about 3 or 4 different versions which you can buy of Superman and only the original theatrical cut is any good. All other cuts shit over the pacing of the film. If you've only seen the special edition or the extended version that might be why you think it doesn't hold up as well. Those cuts are terribly paced and as a result feel like older, slower movies than they actually are.
>We know he's going to win. We know he's going to beat the bad guy. As such, theres no stakes.
What kind of retarded shit is this? What capeshit did you go see thinking the hero would lose? Not any fucking MCU movie that’s for sure. Hell we all knew the Infinity War deaths were getting undone because Marvel fucking announced Spider-Man: Far from Home.
>Batman can endure trauma. Lose loved ones. Get injured. Can bleed. and actually have character development (well as much as DC allows before they reboot again).
So can Superman you fucking retard. Jesus Christ read a fucking comic book.
>>has every power conceivable under the sun
Doesn’t have telepathy. Or magical attacks. All he has is strength, flight, x-ray/heat vision, speed, and sometimes arctic breath but that’s on a case by case basis.
>>is morally good to a fault
Wrong. He gets pissed like anyone else and makes mistakes.
>>cant be killed
Holy shit you fucking retard, he literally got BEATEN TO DEATH. He got resurrected but he was fucking dead, he absolutely can die.
You know what? After reading through this thread I think Superman can't be made today. He'll either be a cuck jobber like on Supergirl or hated like Cavill's Superman. There's no middle ground, either you enjoy Superman or you don't. He represents the very best of humanity and if society has changed so much to the point of hating him then there is no Superman for us any more, we do not deserve some one like him. Earth is now more like Gotham city and less like Metropolis. I can see why Snyder killed him off in BvS so soon. It's a tragedy.
youtube.com
>Earth is now more like Gotham city and less like Metropolis
Metropolis is a city where a psychotic CEO basically gets to run the place like his personal playground. It’s not a great place to live which is why Supes is there in the first place.
>Holy shit you fucking retard, he literally got BEATEN TO DEATH. He got resurrected but he was fucking dead, he absolutely can die.
The point being. Death doesn't stick to him. I mean they killed off Iron Man for good in IW.
>It’s not a great place to live which is why Supes is there in the first place.
Bullshit.
>He represents the very best of humanity and if society has changed so much to the point of hating him then there is no Superman for us any more, we do not deserve some one like him. Earth is now more like Gotham city and less like Metropolis. I can see why Snyder killed him off in BvS so soon. It's a tragedy.
It's telling when the best Superman movie since the 70's is this piece of shit.
Supes is really smart, smart enough to realize that he'd rather be an actor than have his wife and kids be victims to all manner of violence and abuse. He gets the upper hand, but he is also quite powerful, so he's gonna have to learn to balance out those skills as a result of life. For the most part, he'll probably try to do as he can to maintain the balance between his lifestyle and the needs of his people who are his best friends.
The problem is, as Supes, you don't get to live the life any other billionaire does. Supes is living one of your average everyday, working jobs. He has to work like crazy, constantly having to be a part of the plan, and to keep what it takes to keep on operating. A lot of these jobs would make a person a billionaire, but as a super hero, that's something you rarely see.
Maybe they should have just adapted Injustice or Red Son.
Should just do a super dickery movie.
>He'll either be a cuck jobber like on Supergirl or hated like Cavill's Superman.
Superman needs a new job in todays world. Especially given how much people hate Journalists and despise them as a profession, given corruption at places like Washington Post and CNN. Maybe it's time to make him a blogger or a Podcaster or something.
They were going down that route in BVS. Then the fucking backlash and snyderhate happened.
Did you ever hear Donner's commentary for Superman the Movie? The man had some horrendous ideas, but he had other people like Tom Mankiewicz to reign him in. Reeve was also smart enough to reject Donner's direction for Superman/Clark Kent. How the director couldn't even understand his own climatic ending to the film is beyond me. Also, the time reversal ending worked much better in the first film than the second one.
Also the 4 hour extended version is terribly paced because it was cut for television. The special edition holds up quite well. Superman's scene with Jor-El after his first reveal is essential to the movie and to Reeve's Superman. The movie just doesn't work anywhere as well without it.
>as a result feel like older, slower movies than they actually are
Good. Slow capekino is top tier.
>So can Superman you fucking retard. Jesus Christ read a fucking comic book.
The whole point of Superman is that he isn't supposed to change or endure real suffering. Also. Killing Jon Kent is a bad story decision.
>What capeshit did you go see thinking the hero would lose?
It's different with Superman. I mean, at least Captain America cant shrug off bullets!
>Maybe it's time to make him a blogger or a Podcaster or something.
Won't work. The reason Clark chose a newspaper besides being "close to the action" is because if he was on TV or YouTube he'll be found out almost instantly today. The face he shows in public is Superman. Clark Kent is almost an every man npc for a disguise.
Superman's insane powerlevel is either a problem or an opportunity depending on how you use it. Having him show up in justice league to easily beat down the entire team and then one-shot the final boss is an example of of using him badly, it makes everybody else seem pointless and eliminates any actual suspense because we know once he shows up it's all over with.
But the whole fun of Superman is that he can do crazy shit most characters could never dream of. The movies just keep thinking small. You could have a movie where Branaic teams up with Solaris and Superman has to fight an alien armada and a rogue artificial sun in space, like Independence day but with Superman instead of fighter jets. MOS kind of flirted with that sort of thing which is why it was the best of the modern movies but even then it was still not as large scale as a real balls-out Superman movie could be. The character has literally infinite potential, there's a reason he's been around forever.
Never post Cavills CGI face ever again.
Having Superman fight an even bigger CGI blob army is not something they should focus on right now. Get the character and his mythology right. If you get that right, nearly anything can work.
>Won't work. The reason Clark chose a newspaper besides being "close to the action" is because if he was on TV or YouTube he'll be found out almost instantly today.
Yeah. But who reads newspapers anymore? I mean does the concept of a Superman with a secret identity even work in the age of Smart Phones? No. Not really.
>The movies just keep thinking small.
Superman was always best on TV. Should have been like TNG or TOS Trek. TV Series and then a few movies in between. Smallville at one time was going to be like this.
>Get the character and his mythology right. If you get that right, nearly anything can work.
Thats never happening. How do you get the character to work in a world with things as horrible as ISIS and North Korea and Hillary Clinton that make things like Braniac seem childish by comparison? You cant.
only the really annoying ones who can't like anything, that being said the only good ones are Superman 1 (fuckload of problems though), 2 and Man of Steel
read some comics retard, also he is not that powerful anymore you are thinking of superman in the fucking 60s and 70s
>because if he was on TV or YouTube he'll be found out almost instantly today
He'd be found out instantly even if he didn't have a job in TV or Youtube. Theres literally no reason for him to have a secret identity in todays world. Hell the Marvel movies didn't even bother for the most part with Secret Identities. Everyone knows who Iron Man and Cap real names are and where they live.
There's literally nothing keeping DC from doing the exact same thing with Superman, and they should do it. Because him having a secret ID in a world where a chinese surveillance camera can deduct your social credit for jaywalking doesn't make any sense at all.
For the Man who has Everything is kino
>Man of Steel
Should you even count that given the sequels killed all the goodwill people had towards it?
Injustass is fucking retarded and goes out of its way to make him an edgelord, Superman has thought Lois has been dead before and kept on going. If losing a loved one sends Superman crazy then he's not Superman
It's ironic because you think the lesson he learns is that he can't save everyone in that movie then at the end he goes fuck it and goes back in time to save one chick, fucking overrated trash
>Superman The Movie
Should you even count that given the sequels after 2 killed all the goodwill people had towards it?
And don't kid yourself this shit doesn't happen in a real superhero book, so fuck yeah I'd rather be a kid or a villain in the real world. No real life stories need to happen there.
What you should have done was say no to Superman in Superman vol 3 #9 and #10. You should have waited to see when he got back from Mexico, where he was visiting the Mexican Consulate, but had you know the next issue of the series would show him in Mexico again right off the heels of what happened in Superman vol 3#8. I know you think this is a shitty move after that, but I would not have done that either. I just wanted to see what it's like having my favorite character with me wherever he went, but having Superman be out looking for an escape. I hate to break it to you guys, Superman doesn't have a favorite country and Mexico is one of the most culturally-diverse countries in the world.
I think having him out there is actually kind of stupid, it shows how fucked up Superman is mentally and mentally he's just looking for a way out of this place.
>If losing a loved one sends Superman crazy then he's not Superman
Something something one bad day.
Besides. Given both the injustice comics and games are doing far better than any of the movies? Maybe they should have just made him the bad guy. There's just no way to make a story about a perfect man acting perfectly and never facing any real hardship or pain interesting.
>people complain he doesn't punch anyone in Superman Returns
>people complain he punches too much in Man of Steel
>The whole point of Superman is that he isn't supposed to change or endure real suffering.
He’s the product of a fucking planet blowing up you fucking moron
>Also. Killing Jon Kent is a bad story decision.
His fucking CREATORS were the ones who killed the Kents off. Jon and Martha Kent have been dead longer than they’ve been alive. It is PAINFULLY obvious you’ve never fucking read a Superman comic book in your life.
>Should you even count that given the sequels after 2 killed all the goodwill people had towards it?
At least Reeves came back for III and IV. Cavill as movieblob shitman put it 'has snapped his last neck as Superman' given he signed up for the Witcher Netflix series.
THIS and ONLY THIS
He doesn't hate the poor family; he doesn't mind them living out their old lives, no-one needs him that much in the end. He was not able to save Lois but he could have and probably wouldn't have had to fight it out with a madman if it hadn't been for the fact that Lois was his Kryptonite. His reaction to Superman is probably why Superman turned against him, he's a jerk who cares but Superman is just dumb. As far as I know he was never the hero, he's just a shitty guy. It makes even less sense with him being a dead person. The plot is as dumb as anyone's, Lois is outed to the public and she has no love for the other characters in the story. They just want him dead now. Now the good ones get to take off all his gear and ride around in the sky with their own giant flying hovercraft. Not a great plot, but it was the only way to get them over the hill and they didn't do anything interesting with Superman.
Exactly my point.
>killing jon kent bad story decision
for most of Supermans history the Kents were dead
>The whole point of Superman is that he isn't supposed to change or endure real suffering
absolute imbecile
the sequels being shit doesn't make it bad
>There's just no way to make a story about a perfect man acting perfectly and never facing any real hardship or pain interesting.
Yeah there isn't, but Superman faces pain and hardship all the time you fucking casual retard, jesus you could pick a superman book off a shitty watchmojo list and see that
>Death doesn't stick to him. I mean they killed off Iron Man for good in IW.
But not Spider-Man. And Cavill is basically done so Superman is technically dead. I mean in comics Spider-Man has died twice and come back whereas Superman has only ever died and returned once. I think Iron Man just died and returned for the third time in comics.
So Suicide Slum isn’t a thing? Hob’s Bay doesn’t exist? Lex Luthor running his amoral experiments on Metropolis citizens never happened? I mean shit that’s not even getting into freaks like Parasite, Metallo, etc running around.
>He’s the product of a fucking planet blowing up you fucking moron
He wasn't there to Witness it like Batman was for his parents or Kara was in Injustice II. Ergo. He has nothing to motivate him to be a hero. There's no 'inciting incident' like there is for Spider-Man.
How about this for an elevator pitch for a Superman reboot? Superman gets sent to earth because of his planet blowing up. But he's sent as a 7-11 year old, is picked up by the authorities and is put in an orphanage and adopted by the kents who genuinely care for him, and doesn't get all his powers until he's an adult.
He grows up with memories of Kryptons destruction, and his motivation is. 'I dont want earth to suffer what Krypton did'. and how far he should go to prevent that is the main conflict of the entire series.
Metropolis is supposed to be the 'city of tomorrow'. Not Gotham.
yeah, metropolis isn't exactly a good place the difference is most of its cops aren't corrupt which is why people think its squeaky clean
>It’s different with Superman. I mean, at least Captain America cant shrug off bullets!
It really isn’t. I mean Manchester Black fucked him up really good with just telepathy, no Kryptonite involved. And people go see Thor and WW movies and those two are gods so I don’t buy people not wanting to go see Superman movies.
can this retard whose never read actual superman kino and is just basing his knowledge off injustass fuck off
>But not Spider-Man.
Give it six more movies.
public perception of superman is kind of fucked for some reason, especially in the "geek" crowd.
>Given both the injustice comics and games are doing far better than any of the movies?
The movies drew heavily from Injustice dipshit. What do you think that “you are my world” bullshit was? That’s why they failed, you can’t tease Superman turning evil when his dumbass girlfriend dies and expect people to then mourn him when he dies.
>disney get superman rights somehow
>ACTUALLY LOIS LANE IS THE STRONK AND INTERESTING CHARACTER HERE
i'd be interested in seeing something this retarded happen
They tried to have it both ways instead of committing to either.
>public perception of superman is kind of fucked for some reason, especially in the "geek" crowd.
It comes with being an Icon. Everyone has impossible expectations and preconceptions of Superman, and if you dont meet them (cause you never will). They get pissed off.
>at least Captain America cant shrug off bullets!
Some of you really need to read up on Superman.
youtu.be
>There's no 'inciting incident' like there is for Spider-Man.
There’s none for Cap America either. Superman has the Kents dying to motivate him if that’s something you think is necessary but unlike Batman or Spider-Man he doesn’t wallow in self-pity. Clark is a hero because he CARES about other people. That’s his reason for being a hero, empathy.
Batman doesn't get that though, and a lot of people just plain hate Superman in the nu-geek crowd
>It really isn’t. I mean Manchester Black fucked him up really good with just telepathy, no Kryptonite involved.
The whole point of that story was to reveal at the very end that Superman and his loved ones were never in any real danger at all, and the whole thing was fabricated by him and Lois to teach Manchester a lesson. Basically saying 'you should want Superman to be this way or be hurt in this way because he wouldn't be Superman if he was'.
only in the movie adaptation
Trump is already great and he'll have a full eight years.
And what makes you think the “City of Tomorrow” is not going to have crime? Shit mate the way things are going we’re all going to be living in cyberpunk real soon.
what the fuck? who let Yea Forums in to talk about their coloring books?
Yep. I’m not a fan of Injustice, I think it’s way too retarded even by capeshit standards but there’s definitely an audience for it. But it only works if Superman was the squeaky clean paragon he’s strawman’d as. Snyder’s retarded fuckup Murderman has no real reason to care. He’s already murdering Zod and Doomsday, he’s already cynical and whiny about humanity. Him going Evil is less “oh shit” and more “yeah figured”. They should’ve just made the DCEU the Justice Lords with Superman and Batman taking over and running a fascist dictatorship. Snyder loves fascism aesthetic, it’s what he should’ve done.
>There’s none for Cap America either.
World War II and wanting to stop a genocidal horde is the definition of an inciting incident.
>unlike Batman or Spider-Man he doesn’t wallow in self-pity.
And thats why plenty of people say he's a really boring character. He has no complexity or flaws to speak of. So theres nothing for writers to work with.
>Clark is a hero because he CARES about other people. That’s his reason for being a hero, empathy.
Why would Superman have empathy if he's never suffered anything comparable to what others have gone through? He's never been hurt, never broken a bone, never felt too hot or cold, never had to deal with loss. He's the definition of privileged.
just stop fucking posting dude you are absolutely fucking clueless, go read some superman and shut up
>never had to deal with loss. He's the definition of privileged.
Bullshit. Read up on Superman user.
What? Fucking up Manchester was the plan but those wounds are absolutely real and he did in fact almost die. He even tells Chester that Chester fucked him up pretty good. I mean if you don’t think Supes bleeds I don’t know what to tell you. Dude gets fucking bodied every week.
>Snyder’s retarded fuckup Murderman has no real reason to care.
One. Cavills Superman never murdered anyone. All deaths were either collateral damage or done in the name of saving a life
Two. Lois? His mom? His hometown? That bully he saved from drowning in the schoolbus? The clear hyperbole here instantly makes me dismiss this. You've got some growing up to do pal
>Shit mate the way things are going we’re all going to be living in cyberpunk real soon.
Can Superman even exist in a world like that? Not really. I certainly dont think so. He's not a person who can exist in a dystopian world unless he's the cause of it.
>Trump is already great and he'll have a full eight years.
Can you Imagine the outrage if it was revealed Superman voted for Trump?
>World War II and wanting to stop a genocidal horde is the definition of an inciting incident.
And wanting to help people or stop Lex Luthor ISN’T?
>And thats why plenty of people say he's a really boring character. He has no complexity or flaws to speak of. So theres nothing for writers to work with.
Oh please do you know how sick people are of seeing the Waynes or Uncle Ben get murdered? So much so that they completely skipped it in the MCU, people are bored of MUH ANGST. It gets old after a while.
>Why would Superman have empathy if he's never suffered anything comparable to what others have gone through? He's never been hurt, never broken a bone, never felt too hot or cold, never had to deal with loss. He's the definition of privileged.
You fucking retard, he doesn’t even get his powers until he’s a teenager usually. Up until he’s 18 he has a completely normal life, and he has the pain of knowing he’s the last of his kind plus his adopted parents are dead, so he short TWO sets of dead parents. And you sound like Snyder with your retarded “you MUST experience something to understand it”. Did you murder someone to learn that murdering is bad? I’ve never broken a bone but I sure as shit can empathize with people who have. Jesus you edgelords kiddies these days.
The elements of common law murder are:
Unlawful
killing
through criminal act or omission
of a human
by another human
with malice aforethought.[8]
superman can't murder people because he is not human. just like dogs can't murder people.
>Not really. I certainly dont think so. He's not a person who can exist in a dystopian world unless he's the cause of it.
Well you’re flat out wrong buddy. Superman exists to bring hope, if everything is perfect and peachy the fuck does anyone need him for?
In the age of cinematic universes it kind've is. It denied Cavills potential to be our gens Superman, and now we're never going to get him as the one people ant to see ever again.
superman can literally time travel in the comics you dumb fuck.
>bbbbbut i didn't like it
okay
he can but he can't change the past, every time he tried the same thing happened, point is it was done well in the comics. 78 movies ending was shit tier
reminder
This thread has basically shown me why he’ll never have a great movie: No actually read the source material anymore. No directors or screenwriters are actually reading Superman comics, so they approach this character with misconceptions. Too perfect? That’s been addressed in the comics by showing his flaws (wrath, hypocrisy, lying, etc). Too OP? They’ve either scaled his power levels down or lowered his enemies up, and shit we’ve still never gotten to see Superman fight Brainiac or Mongul on Warworld. Superman fighting aliens in gladiator matches on Warworld sounds rad as fuck. He’s got other love interests besides Lois and he’s had all sorts of different personalities and powers. But no one will ever know about them as long as no one ever bothers to open a Comic and read it.
WE DON'T KNOW HE ISN'T COMING BACK
>And wanting to help people or stop Lex Luthor ISN’T?
Captain America doesn't have to worry about breaking someone by accident when he gives them a hug. If Superman chooses to fight evil, unlike captain America theres always going to be massive collateral damage simply because he's OP. Unless you go full silver age silly.
>And you sound like Snyder with your retarded “you MUST experience something to understand it”.
Look I can certainly help those in suffering because I dont like it. But I can't ever understand what it's like to say, have your entire life taken from you by an abusive parent. My point is that Superman can't understand human suffering because he himself is not human. Even if he does commit himself to mitigating it. Also. No reason to get personal dude. Take deep breaths.
>superman can literally time travel in the comics you dumb fuck.
PreCrisis Superman. Not modern day superman.Silver age was a different time.
no it's cause the character is just boring af
The comic books he originated in were in in a pretty idealistic world where nobody died, nobody got hurt, everything worked out in the end. Silver age was a different time the comics from that era were just as goofy and over the top as he is.
Maybe they should lean into that when they inevitably reboot. Make an outright Zucker Bros. style Superman comedy where his outfit is cloth and everyone talks like a cartoon.
Given he's the lead of a big budget netflix show and no future films with him in the lead have been announced, I think it's safe to say he is. For better or worse.
>The comic books he originated in were in in a pretty idealistic world where nobody died, nobody got hurt
absolutely not they were full of thugs, wars, corruption and people getting whacked, what you are thinking of more started in the 50s
Golly, that'd be swell!
What about Captain Marvel's cat? I think it can work so long as they keep it as some dumb animal instead of being intelligent and self aware.
>Superman fighting aliens in gladiator matches on Warworld sounds rad as fuck.
People would just say they're ripping off Thor Ragnarok.
>I think it's safe to say he is.
It looks that way but "nothing" has been confirmed about Cavill leaving Superman. Right now he still is until WB specifically say he isn't.
>Golly, that'd be swell!
Are you sure about that? Remember Batman And Robin? Which went from serious mature Batman comic to comedy?
Not saying silly, just saying more like the first one rather than a brooding Superman who looks unhappy saving people.
>What about Captain Marvel's cat?
Never saw that movie.
>Not saying silly, just saying more like the first one rather than a brooding Superman who looks unhappy saving people.
Because Fire Fighters tell jokes when they're pulling a man out of a burning building. He's not unhappy, he's just taking his job seriously.
One of Clark's problems is that his life outside of being Superman is fucking boring. Batman as Bruce can get into sticky situations and conflict along with character relationships and drama. Spider-man has it too where he has to juggle between keeping a stable job/school life and relationships when not donning the mask.
Even in the MCU you can see that kind of thing despite having almost no secret identity to the characters to maintain. Stark still is in meetings and parties with baggage from being a weapons manufacturer, Steve has struggles keeping up with how different modern society and culture is now, Thor has his duties to be the future king and also having fun of his own, Banner is still a researcher and scientist, Tchalla with his responsibilities as a king and politics, Scott with being a father and ex-thief, etc.
What does Clark do when not Superman? Pretending to be some reporter to hang out with Lois and be early in getting info on the latest incidents? It's all just a means for him.
This may be his biggest issue in entertainment value. The best parts of Batman are when he's Bruce Wayne. But no one gives a shit about Clark Kent, partially because Clark can't realistically HAVE any issues. He's fucking Superman, he can throw his issues into the next galaxy if he feels like it.
>What does Clark do when not Superman? Pretending to be some reporter to hang out with Lois and be early in getting info on the latest incidents? It's all just a means for him.
They did have his relationship with Kara and/or Conner in some of the comics. Where he has to try and be a father figure to them. That could work.
I really enjoy Clark Kent journalism stuff
I liked Superman returns, fuck you
>I liked Superman returns, fuck you
At least Man Of Steel wasn't directed by a pedophile.
Superman is the absolute worst hero in the entire superhero genre. Prove me wrong.
t. reddit zoomer
Not as dead as his daughter.
>Not as dead as his daughter.
AND THERE IT IS!
You DCfags are truly hopeless.
Marvelchads have been telling you for months on end now exactly which DC actors have quietly left DC and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM turned out to be true. Just accept we know more about capeshit then you do.
Cavil is gone baby, gone.
>Marvelchads have been telling you for months on end now exactly which DC actors have quietly left DC and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM turned out to be true.
What about Gadot?
>it's Disney's fault the films are failing
Tell that to the success of Deadpool, Logan and Venom
this. people can't think for themselves so they hop on the "mos bad" mentality
Because Batman's advertised as "the superhero who's pure human and vulnerable". So if he fails, people will just go "well he's still human being" while being praised for whatever bullshit he manages to pull off "because he's Batman".
truth
>Tell that to the success of Deadpool, Logan and Venom
Those are the exceptions. We had like 12 X-Men movies and only the maybe 4 of them were good. Also, fucking Venom sucked, and was only profitable because the producer Pascal managed to trick the audience into thinking it was an MCU movie with the advertising
This.
You can't make a whole movie only following the character while they are doing superhero stuff, since that would wear down on the audience on top of costing a lot more for CGI and whatnot to keep the action going. Clark as a reporter really doesn't do anything but be like some background character until Superman is needed in the scene. He could not be present throughout the movie and nothing will be different. His background also doesn't really matter, whether being an alien or a farm boy.
Clark needs to have something to do or strive for that would play into making him be interesting or relatable to the audience. Make his background actually matter, like being a farm boy has him interested in animals or farming.
>Man of Steel was absolute kino.
>What the fuck went wrong?
Nothing.
We got BvS and that was KINO x10.
>You DCfags are truly hopeless.
Would it kill people like you to try and be a bit nicer?
It's ok, he had an oscar winning movie in the 80s and MoS which was kino. You should be worried about MCU trash not being able to beat Pocahontas in space
superman is such fucking garbage. His struggles are petty. If you want media where the struggle is never that the person isn't physically strong enough to deal with the obstacles watch fist of the north star.
>If you want media where the struggle is never that the person isn't physically strong enough to deal with the obstacles watch fist of the north star.
Or One Punch Man.
A nice montage of Superman over the decades.
Superman 3’s Clark/Smallville/Lana scenes were great though. People go out of their way to make Clark and his entire life boring. Read Maggin’s thoughts about the Superman/Clark Kent thing. It’s much better than generic reporter man.
Pre-Crisis Superman doesn’t have the power to change history.
gay
>A nice montage of Superman over the decades.
I dont want a nice montage. I want Superman to be relevant and loved by people again.
He time travelled back to Camelot to save Jimmy Olsen from an evil version of Merlin. He did have the power to time travel is what I was saying.
OPM is a gag manga retard.
>again
when he ever had a good movie?
70s superman is absolute shit. it completely shits on characters like lex luthor
three is absolutely terrible and four is one of the worst movies ever made
superman returns is just nostalgia for the 70s movie
snyder superman....do I have to say anything? absolutely embarissing
superman never had a good live action movie.
Lois Lane getting red pilled by Tempus. They will never let the truth be told like this in a Superman story ever again.
>70s superman is absolute shit.
They were good at the time. they just haven't aged well.
Nah they’re still great. If zoomers can’t appreciate how “slow” it is, then it’s their problem. They probably would have shit on Unbreakable as well.
So was Superman in the Silver age.
>Nah they’re still great.
they're good. I just wish we could have a good Superman movie that also wasnt Campy as balls
