And her life is an absolute fucking trainwreck and her relationships with men are deeply dysfunctional.

It's harding affirming for the progressive model of a modern woman. It in many ways upholds conservative stereotypes about what characters like her are like.

The difference is that the portrayal of white Christians being back is relentless and everywhere in hollywood.

Also Girls for example, is actually scathingly critical of liberal millennial women. It's way more than just some light self deprecating humour. It fundamentally challenges their bullshit again and again.

They are not really 'good' people in that show.

Nah, take Lady Bird for example. Ok it's not the south, but it has a very positive portrayal of the priest, and of the nun.

And she goes to a church in NYC when she realizes how much she misses her upbringing.
