Post actors who play essentially the same character
Post actors who play essentially the same character
Jhonny depp
I never understood this expresion.
what does it mean to "play the same character"? people say that about will smith but I dont get what they mean, he plays diferent people with diferent backstories and personalities; how can he always play the same character?
> different personalities
With Martin Freeman, even when he's the lead, he's always playing some sort of sardonic, slightly pessimistic stutterer.
>diferent people with diferent backstories and personalities
yet all those ''different'' personalities feel the same...
>no Will Smith in the whole thread
what the fuck is happening with Yea Forums?
see
>different personalities
Will Smith has been The Fresh Prince for 30 years
what does this mean?
the character will smith played in Aladdin is different than the character he played in hancock or I am legend. how can he "always play the same character"?
Same goes for Bollock, Horseface and the like.
at least he doesnt put up with gay shit
>im an ex cop/military/special forces and my wife hates me
What?
Dracula
Sid and Nancy
5th Element
True Romance
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
Etc
Have you only seen him in the Batman films?
It's basically another way of saying the actor possesses little to no range. Some actors can use this as an advantage to their career (Keanu Reeves, Will Smith), whilst some end up being box office poison. Though weirdly, I tend to find the actors that play themselves over and over are oftentimes very well known.
Yes
Shit b8
Freeman in Ali G and Freeman in the Hobbit films, totally the same yeah.
she always plays some type of cool-lady waitress
>snatch
>troy
>12 monkeys
>oceans 11
>inglorious bastards
How are any of these even remotely the same?
be honest user, are you autistic?
>wins several oscars for doing it over and over
but i'm ok with it
Incredibly based
He did an amazing job there tho.
When you hit a vein of gold do you dig around it?
So actors should aim to repeat their best roles indefinitely?
I haven't seen Martin Freeman in too many things, but Lester Nygaard is one of the most based characters ever.
I'm sure all of these actors once upon a time would have loved to play different roles, but you get type cast and its difficult to get out of that. So you either try and might fail or you can keep cashing that cheque. It's not necessarily a bad thing, a tool for every job and all that.
What was his name again?
This
no you dig deeper trying to find more you dont stop and say well thats enough I'll just stay here
Matthew McConaughBLAZE
Benevolent Dictator Combing-Dash
Digits confirm him to be the most overrated actor of all time
He's really annoying.
literally nothing wrong with typecasting

EEEEEEEEVEEERYYYOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Actually very correct
Benadryl Cabbagepatch

That's not even true, he did literally every type of role when he was trying to get an Oscar
Before Christ
This motherfucker was the same even when he was an animated character from the bible
>The Aviator
>Titanic
>Gangs of New York
>The Revenant

Leo is a one trick pony that gets outacted by supporting roles in almost every film
the grizzled wise old man EVERY TIME
GIVE ME THE SCOOP DONNY
wrong
Unbreakable, Jurassic Park
Robin Hood, Oblivion
What the fuck are you smoking? The Departed, Blood Diamond, Django Unchained, Romeo + Juliet... how are any of these remotely similar?
what said
His early work before he got typecast as Sherlock has more variation. Also... Smaug? I'm pretty sure he hasn't played a whole lot of dragons.
>not even trying
remember him in Avatar and Saving Private Ryan?
I'm convinced that whenever a studio lands him they rip out a chunk of the script and just let him do whatever
No the script is different, his acting is the same. The only time he wasn't being Leo was Gilbert Grape
Denzel Washington is the same guy every fuckin time. I’d post his dumb shit face but I don’t wanna
>screams intensely
>his acting is the same.
you're retarded. The only reason he 'always looks like Leonardo DiCaprio' to you is because he's one of the most famous people on earth and you can't get over that when you're watching one of his movies. Which is understandable, but that doesn't mean Billy Costigan and Calvin Candy are remotely similar.
Pleb opinion. If anything Brad is a versatile character actor trapped in a leading man's body.
AS A BOY
I thought it was obvious
Battlefield Counterstrike
How can one man be so annoying?
Not Oldman or Mcshane .. rest Yes
The Expanse
Goldblum is kind of the same career arc as Pacino. When he was young and ambitious, he'd get after it, even go method sometimes, really get in to a character. He was tremendously promising. And then he played Dr. Ian Malcolm, everybody gushed about the performance and fell in love with it, etc. Unfortunately, he himself also fell in love with it, got lazy, and has continued to play Dr. Ian Malcolm nonstop for the last two and a half decades. Just like Al's been playing Scarface nonstop for 30 years.
>Post actors who play essentially the same character
in fairness, while people act like this is a bad thing, MOST actors don't have a ton of range. for the vast majority, the career path is a slow transition from Generic Young Pretty Person to Grizzled Old Character Actor. And that's fine. For a lot of actors, the so-called "That Guy"s, it kinda becomes what we love about them. They're hired to do one thing, they do it with practiced confidence, and it just works.
Now, I'm happy to watch a hyper competent actor like anthony hopkins or dustin hoffman really surprise me with a role, or watch a chameleon like oldman just disappear completely in to a character, that's awesome. But most of a time, you don't need that. Hell, most movies don't even have room in them for more than one or two people doing that kind of performance.
