Easily one of the best films ever made
Perhaps, but not one of the scariest, it simply doesn't hold up by today's standards. To be fair though you have to put it in a historical context to truly appreciate its horror. Meaning, if you are an old Catholic woman.
supernatural concepts aren't scary to modern people because they don't have souls
This, but I'm not here to comment on whether or not that's a bad thing.
i still find the horror aspects remarkably effective. "chilling" or "eerie" is more apt, but of course i've never felt truly scared during a film because i know it's not real, the equivalent to the thrill one feels on a rollercoaster. it builds great atmosphere. what i find most rewarding is jason miller's character's arc; his waning faith at the start along with the death of his mother works amazingly well with his final sacrifice to save regan and the whole spiritual aspect of regan's condition renewing his faith. really powerful stuff tb h. and ellen burstyn is such a qt and an amazing actor. was surprised to read this was pretty much all the actors' first major role, plus blatty's first script which got him the oscar. just an overall bloody good film, headed by masters of their craft.
What movie?
the exorcist (1973) by william friedkin. check it out asap if you haven't seen it

Last of the Mohicans?
what's the worst thing about the extended? i only dislike the part where regan runs down the stairs and vomits blood
