I accidentally downloaded Alien: Covenant. It was directed by Ridley Scott (the same director as the original Alien movie). How does it compare to his work 30 years ago?
I accidentally downloaded Alien: Covenant...

Delete it from your computer and pretend it never happened before it's too late.
Comparatively its a pile of shit. Not even a nostalgia fag, its simply nonsensical and retarded.
It's trash, like almost everything Scott has done in the last few decades.
How so?
Download Prometheus instead
Because he's old and senile.
Like Prometheus:
well directed but a stupid pointless unenjoyable story populated by unlikeable characters making ridiculous decisions
It's a mess. Has a couple of kino moments but I'd say it is not Worth your time. Watch Prometeus instead.
that bit where the alium and david are doing pantomimes at each is one of the worst scenes ever put to film
also, how are the albino xenos not more perfect than the regular ones?
much faster incubation period, no giant spider stuck to your face to give away that you're infected, airborne infection, lethal from the second they come out of the host instead of needing to hide for 12 hours, david is retarded
Every character is a retard, resulting in easily avoidable situations causing tons of deaths.
Besides that: bad dialogue, bad casting, some of the visual effects look like total shit, the plot directly defies things stated in eariler alien films, whole thing is just a Fasbender masturbatiry session. I could go on.
As a stand alone movie, it'd not horrible. It's a B movie, but with a huge budget. If you can watch 70's and 80's slasher flicks, and aren't a huge alien fan (meaning the plot won't annoy you) then this is fine.
Then what about George Miller, Martin Scorsese or James Cameron?
I like it. I don't know why Ridley Scott is getting shat on so much by this board constantly.
Yea Forums couldn't spot a good movie if it fucked them in the arse. Most people here also don't know the difference between a director and a writer.
>I liked it so any valid criticism (which is aplenty in this thread) is suddenly rendered meaningless
God I hate you zoomers so much.
Classic Ridley Scott

1979 – Alien
1982 – Blade Runner
1085 - Legend
1991 – Thelma & Louise
2000 – Gladiator
2005 - Kingdom of Heaven
2007 – American Gangster
Modern Ridley Scott

2013 – The Conselor
2014 – Exodus: Gods and Kings
2015 – The Martian
2017 – Alien: Covenant
2017 – All the Money in the World
>t. doesn't know the difference between a writer and a director
Only one post in this thread has mentioned the direction and they praised it.
the best scene in covenant wasn't even in the movie.
Look at the cast and you should get an idea of the quality of movie you're in for. We're going to give you a nice homage to an earlier film's shower scene? No, fuck you it's over and done in a second with zero tension leading up to it. It has the same amount of soul as those on rail shooters at arcades. The only kino thing about it is it shows how retarded and cunty toward other women any female character would probably be in that emergency situation (their true flight mode nature).
not bad
not memorable
it honestly took me ~30 seconds after reading your OP to realize I saw it when it came out
old but not senile
honestly ridley was never really that talented. mostly other people made his good movies good
when you put it that way... I cringed
I thought it was pretty decent. Worth watching once at least. Not the greatest.
Why don't people like his Robin Hood? I thought it was excellent.
>mp.4
I didn't say the criticism is meaningless, I just said I kinda like the movie and I don't think Ridley Scott is so utterly terrible and trash as most people here always say.
What the fuck's your problem lol? You're getting triggered when someone says they like a movie.
Alien is still the best, Prometheus gets a honorable mention. Aliens doesn't count since it's literally the same movie as Alien, just the Action and Budget are heightened. Prometheus gets excused since it's years later and the cast is totally new and it also is technically a prequel (or was, don't know if retconned). Alien is still the scariest and feels the most believable in sci-fi terms. i don't know how they did it, maybe because CGI wasn't as prevalent during that period.
>accidentally downloaded a 3 hour movie
yeah bro accidentally made a workout cube
watched it in cinema with my father who's a big alien fan. we both hated it.
you should accidentally download mpc
It's pretty bad. It focuses way too much on David and his pseudo intellectual shit. The alien reproduction process is literally sniffing black pollen. The aliens are all CGI. They introduce a new type that is more cute than scary. The only good part is the medlab scene with the backburster but it's pretty comical how the 2 women deal with the situation. The ending has a cliche shower sex scene death and the climax is a ripoff of Alien and Aliens climax. Movie is a mess
I liked it. It differs from the themes of the first movie, like Prometheus. You can see in the film that poor Ridley Scott desperately wants to make a new franchise or setting/theme similar to Alien. There was that one interview where he goes on about being sick of “dragons” (the original Alien design) and never wanting to see them again. If you go into the film with that knowledge, that he’s not making an Alien film in spirit, but is going for something new, it’s quite fun. The film has some utterly terrifying moments and some fascinating weird and bizzare imagery that you’re just not going to get anywhere else.
youtu.be
>yo we should totally trust this clone that looks exactly like our clone and is surrounded by all sorts of death
>big alien fan
I think this is the problem. People go in expecting an Alien movie.
"hmm, alien 3 killed off previously established characters, lets try that again."
no Ridley, alien 3 was a bad movie. do not copy it.
actually, I would like to see him make a movie by building sets before the script is even finished, just to see what he comes out with.
or a well thought out story, some of us like those but not enough to really bother the industry.
Unironically the most terrifying moment of the film. Your a retard. The fact that this creature was willing to communicate with David, himself an inscrutable non-human entity, has huge implications. Imagine 50+ years of interactions with David or some other AI and a horde of the grey xenos. You could likely have a complex and social society of xenos with social hierarchy and interactions that ar completly alien and antithetical to human beings. If they learn to communicate, they might learn other things like how to torture rather than kill, or even how to enslave human beings. Imagine the grey xenomorphs keeping a breeding stock of human cattle to reproduce and perform slave labor in xeno society, each person to eventually be used for xeno reproduction. Fucking brainless with zero imagination can’t appreciate a goddamn good idea when they see one.
yeah just like how the alium tried to communicate with ash and bishop
raped by
You fucking faggot. So afraid of new ideas you can’t even process them. I bet you wouldn’t believe an alien if it told you “I am going to artificially extend your lifespan and use your body as an incubator for my children” to your face. What an absolute brainlet.
Its basically just Prometheus again but with every problem that film had made even worse.
Seriously people who claim to love horror are so afraid of new idea, it’s pathetic.
Protag's love interest is way too old, they should've casted an younger actress instead of cate 'blanchett.
...
I can't even remember anything from it
