You don't seem to have a clue what you're talking about. Air strikes in Vietnam came in several flavors:
1. Rolling thunder interdiction against NV 1965-68. This was a half assed yet costly effort by fighter bombers against a limited set of targets selected by the civilian leadership in DC.
2. Linebacker I interdiction against NV, done to weaken the NVA after their invasion in 72. Similar to rolling thunder but much better organized and more successful due to things like guided weapons.
3. CAS operations in the south against guerrilas. Mostly conducted far outside of populated areas.
4. Interdiction against the Ho Chi Minh trail in Laos and Cambodia
5. Linebacker II B-52 raids against Hanoi
6. The all out CAS effort against the NVA invasion in 1972.

3, 4, 5 and 6 featured B-52s but only some of the missions can be considered carpet bombing. Most B-52 sorties were flown to level some patch of jungle where VC were hiding. In 72 they used B-52s as overpowered artillery to halt NVA advances, and in this process they racked up quite a lot of collateral damage. But they were bombing regular army units engaged in full scale open warfare. The bombings of Hanoi were the closest thing to the kind of carpet bombing raid people imagine when presented with footage of bomber formations, and even those were quite small by WW2 standards - even if in terms of the bombload delivered on target they were quite devastating.

Heavy bombers were never used in the North outside of Linebacker II and they were used overwhelmingly against military targets in sparsely populated areas in the south and along the trail. Unlike earlier bombers, B-52s could actually hit what they were aiming for - well enough that they were used very close to allied positions in many occasions. Claiming that Vietnam featured the kind of bombing campaigns seen in WW2 and Korea is a blatant lie.
