In 2016, I lost my job. The sudden loss of income blasted what little we had in savings right away to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads. Soon, those things went away too. I was only out of work for five months, but in that time we lost everything. We were evicted from our apartment. We had no savings. My car got repossessed. We nearly divorced from constantly arguing about money. I dove headfirst into depression, alcohol, and opioid painkillers.
I was offered a job making more money than I ever had in my life, and I thought our troubles were over. Then, at the last minute, they withdrew their offer because their first choice decided to accept after all. I was devastated.
In the depths of it all, I tried to kill myself. I had many plans on how I could do it the right way.
I'm telling you this because I don't want anyone to go through that, on top of the potential humiliation of getting "pranked" on a global platform. You could be the push that throws them off the bridge. Please, please cancel this show. These people are looking for work. What you're planning to do isn't just unfunny, but also egregiously lacking in human decency. Searching for work isn't fun. Wondering how you're going to put food on the table isn't a joke. Having the rug pulled out from under you when you're trying to get on your feet isn't a prank. It's cruel. It's inhumane.
I'm begging you, please don't put anyone through this. It nearly killed me, but I was lucky. Someone on your show might not have that luxury. Please, please cancel this show before someone gets hurt.
