Now that the dust has settled

Which franchise got JUST harder in the last 5 years?

Neither. All the new Wars and Trek films are at least decent.

ST1 and ST3 were okay. Rogue One was okay. The rest is all utter shit.

Abrams' first Star Trek was quite good as a big budget sci-fi movie. It just wasn't Star Trek.

This. A Star Trek movie by someone who doesn’t like Star Trek.

both Star Trek 09 and TFA saved their respective franchises from the absolute dumpster fire of the last few installments

Are you seriously going to pretend the prequels/Frakes movies weren't total shit?

The new STAR trek films are a mixed bag but have the excuse of taking place in a different continuity/universe. Disney Wars, and Last Jedi in particular, have dicked the whole SW universe. The original films have been completely tainted, and no amount of retcons in 9 will ever save it.

Even CBS wasn't stupid enough to declare all past shit to be irrelevant. And Star Trek barely has any continuity to begin with. Why Disney decided to fuck up Star Wars so poorly I just don't get.

>muh feminist influence
Bullshit. Someone in charge approved this shit. Somone approved a movie with an Asian chick kissing a black dude and decided to sell this on the Chinese market. This is not appealing to a different audience, this is how you kill a franchise.

Even the animated series they made to flesh out the Sequel Trilogy conflict ends up being a mess because of a lead character that's more suited to starring in a Hanna Barbara Scooby knockoff then "The Resistance's main eyes and ears in this outpost the First Order is interested in".

Hard to gauge.

Star Wars

TLJ pretty much ruined the franchise to the point that they cancelled their cinematic universe and pushed everything to TV

Star Trek is in a legal hell with a devise TV show and a hack about to make a movie that doesn't fit the tone of the universe and a dead timeline.

I think Star Wars will bounce back first if they can pull off some decent small screen stories. But I doubt that will happen.

Toritillos Star Trek film will be weird and terrible because he can't use the word nigger.

Trek is probably in the better position. Several of the old writers / directors are working on it Like Jonathan "We Made it Up" Frakes, Nicholas Meyer, Patrick Stewart now. Also the entire JJ Verse is separated in a reality nobody has to deal with again unless they want to. Writers / Producers can if they feel like it, but it's not a permanent change to the entire future of the franchise like Disney Star Wars.

Now that Trek is back in TV format, the inherent advantage of having several different writers being able to do different kinds of stories without derailing each other has always been Trek's strong suit. There can be a bad episode in any Trek TV series, and it doesn't really affect any subsequent good ones.

Star Trek has cute ayyywaifus, SW has ugly humans and no alien waifus. Star Trek wins by K.O.

So you are suggesting that JJ trek saved the franchise after nemesis? That his enormous big brain remake of wrath of khan was better than guardians of the galaxy? That getting fired from Beyond along with kurtzman so simon pegg had to finish the script to deliver a trilogy saved star trek?

Is that what you think?

I wonder (((who))) would have made such a decision?

Jaylah was legitimately the best thing to come out of JJ Trek. And maybe Giacchino...

Once they ditch the agenda pushing. Fire EVERYBODY at the top of Lucasfilms. Get rid of Dumb and Dumbers Star Wars. Bring in writers from the Expanded Universe. Bring in directors who dont moonlight as liberal activist. Then yeah, Star Wars could bounce back. In 20 years or so when the stench wheres off

>civilization will still be here in 20 years

Paramount’s mistake was to let JJ and his stable of hack writers bring Khan back. Only Montalban could be Khan. He owned the role. Huge mistake.

Into Darkness took the series away from Trek when it could have built on the limited success of the 2009 flik.

The third film was only okay.

However, until they resolve the CBS vs Paramount issue, ST will be in development limbo. Still, they are in a much better long term position than SW, which appears to be determined to kill off its own history.

This. People need to stop being such monstrous faggots

ST did it somewhat well. SW went to shit. If JJ saves the franchise it would be epic though!

Star Wars big time. Trek can have a few bad movies or even television series, but in another decade it could go back to being great. Star Wars can't really do that with the media it produces, which is mostly just the movies. It's got a bigger pit to crawl out of.
