They don't like long-form writing; they want short cues that just hit beats and don't have time to develop. Listen to the music at the beginning of Spider-Man 3 when Hobgoblin attacks Peter. That's 4 or 5 minutes of sustained, logically consistent musical energy. You rarely get that anymore.

I miss the turmoil Peter would go through, it's just not the same with homecoming or the amazing series.
Sam Raimi's movies were harder to grasp, and his movies would try to teach the audience (specifically kids) important moral messages.

Like when Peter decides to do the wrong thing and let the burglar "Thanks" he says to Peter as he goes by in Spider-Man 1, this leads to his uncle dying. If you stand by and let evil run about don't be surprised when it turns on you.
Nothing like that in the other films.

Or when he's depressed in Spider-Man 2, questioning if he should be a hero or not. How much should he sacrifice for his city (his society), is he not trying hard enough? Is he trying too hard and neglecting his personal relationships and responsibilities such as college?

I'm just saying that if you were to go "back to roots" and do a real Ditko-era Spidey, you'd be getting that confrontational Peter, but you're going to be missing a lot of things that people have come to associate with the character -- including the very essential aspect of Uncle Ben's death as a motivator for Spider-Man. Ditko-era Peter doesn't feel very guilty about that and in annual #1, explicitly spells out that the guilt is a bad thing which a real hero should not have (hence Spider-Man suddenly losing his powers when he feels bad, and regaining them when he doesn't).
Ditko had a very particular idea of how heroes should operate.

Ironically I think the closest a superhero movie has come to having a soul like Raimi's spidermans have is Spiderverse, especially the first half. Feels like actual characters in an actual environment.

marvel took away spidermans reason for being by skipping the uncle ben stoeyline. tony stark is a poor substitute and has clumsily took his place. also, by having everyone know his identity, it makes his inner stuggle less powerful. correct me if im wrong but spiderman never revealed his identity in the old comics even to the fantastic four who he teamed up with from time to time; only the reader knew his idenity an that was part of what made him special.

What convictions do you mean? Would you say any of Ditko's stuff is incorporated into any of the live action/animated versions? Never read any of the early comics. I always liked the Spectacular Spider-man over any other, definitely not pure or a pussy like some of them.

I get what you're saying but it's not just Spider-Man in which they don't do these things.
The only one I think does do something similar is Iron Man 3, and Infinity War, but Endgame basically retcons/ruins that movie.

Steve Ditko was an objectivist. There is a right, there is a wrong, and there is no time for wishy-washiness.
He modeled Peter after himself, extensively. Both of them had an interest in science. Both of them had trouble with friends and relationships (Ditko lived alone; he never married or had children); living with Aunt May and Uncle Ben was Jack Kirby's idea, but Ditko may have incorporated it because it makes Peter that much more alienated from "normal" relationships. There's a high-school yearbook photo of Ditko on the internet which is the spitting image of Peter Parker. And Peter gets his personality from Ditko too; even though Lee's name is on the magazine, Ditko was basically writing out the whole story and Lee was filling in the word bubbles via notes from Steve.
Ditko Peter is the type who can't stand being around the airheads at school (or in the world) and isn't afraid to challenge them either. Stan Lee Peter (i.e. basically everything after Ditko quit) is the opposite. He listens to people's problems, he's never sure of the right solution, he can't decide if he hates himself or loves himself. That's the Peter which has always been adapted. Maybe some aesthetics things from the Ditko issues have been adapted into cartoons/movies, but certainly not Peter's personality.
Today comic books (or, their movies) are very popular with everyone, but if you were reading a comic book in the 1960s at Peter's age -- around high school -- you had a problem. You were probably awkward, shy, and neurotic. Probably like Ditko when he was in high school. I think he wanted those loser kids to read Spider-Man and learn how to grow a little backbone and not take the bullying of the cool "normal" people. Man up against them. When he left, Peter became much more malleable and emotional.

Funnily enough, people have been arguing for decades about "who wrote what" in those early Marvel comics. The way I best understand, Stan would get some idea, pitch it to Kirby/whoever, and it was the artist who would really make the guts of the story. He decided the pacing via panels, he decided who would say what, he delineated all the action. Today comic artists receive very detailed scripts but that was totally not the case with Stan Lee. For Spider-Man, Ditko and Lee had had so many fights over things that Stan said "whatever, you can write the damn thing" and had no idea what the next issue was going to be until Steve brought in the art. He just filled in the dialogue and put his name on it as "writer".
Marvel has been coasting for 60 years almost exclusively on their 1960s characters, so they're pretty decent. X-Men is the one exception; their 1970s team is the one that has been big (probably because everyone likes Wolverine).
I haven't read classic X-Men in a long time so I can't remember how good it is. I assume it's about the same quality as any other Kirby/Lee magazine. If you thought it sucked because it was sort of kiddy, then you should have seen the shit DC was putting out at the time. Literally for 6 year olds.
I recommend reading the later Thor or Captain America comics that Kirby did (late '60s). That shit is awesome and he always included a splash page or two.
