Depends on which one and what you want. In general i’d say yes, 1995’s Ghost in the Shell is kino, just expect more slow and thinky bits than action and you’ll be OK. If you like GITS try GITS2:Innocence which is a bit more controversial.

If you want action do Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex instead.

I just don't know what's so interesting about a romance story where both characters are clearly in love with each other and the story just strings you along the whole time excited about whether they'll get together or not.

I believe Your Name was in theaters longer. A local theater of mine showed it for a week or more and A Silent Voice was shown for two nights, only one screening each night. Plus Shinkai is already popular. But I agree with you user, A Silent Voice was much better.

I think Shape of Water ripped of this movie. It's almost the same premise

The family is supposed to be "trash" japanese family (Single mother with shitty job, problematic kid and the daughter marrying a non-japanese husband, even more, a black one) so that's demeaning, so maybe they don't want to give a face to a woman like that. They do make the hapa daughter in good light tho, becuause cuteness.
