>we will never make it to other worlds
who fed you that line

what's the point of watching porn when you'll never have sex

Generational nuclear pulse propulsion ships = mastery of the universe

Who was the guy that said the world will never need more than six computers?

>There are no other suns in our vicinity
>And thats a good thing!

spbp

Physically impossible

Gives the unwashed masses hope. Without it there'd be more crime and suicide, trust me.

He’s not wrong. The world doesn’t NEED more than 6 computers

We could get to Alpha Centauri right now in 20 years. Capitalists just don't want to go to other worlds because there's no indigenous aliens to enslave and make them work for foxxcon.

We will never leave our solar system, accept it and get over it. It's getting childish at this point to believe it.

Lmao

We could if we wanted to. Its not that hard, with nuclear pulse it would take 20 years, with solar sails with lasers it could take just 5. And don't forget everyone on the ship wouldn't experience the same amount of time passing, it would be shorter for them because they'd be going at a percentage of the speed of light.

The only way to travel space and exist on other planets is to abandon our humanity. Our bodies are too specialized for this planet. Even slight deviations in environment/lifestyle/diet from ancient humans causes horrible health problems.

shut the fuck up

we easily could, it just takes the right mindset which our individualist society doesn't have. It used to take years to navigate the world at sea and was extremely unsafe, space travel is much the same. We'd just need a united world under a fascist regime to coordinate resources and promote science. The ideology would have to be so strong as to totally indoctrinate a few generations of humans on the ships. But ultimately there is no point to space travel, you'll find the same fulfilment on a bare rock in space as you do here, more humans is just more of the same, only with more suffering.

How many boards are you going to post this on in a single month?

grow the fuck up

Oh, it's physically possible. The travel times would just be very, very, VERY, long.

It literally isn't.

Are you a flat-earther too?

Its 100% true. The reason capitalists don't want to go to other worlds is because there's no profit involved. There's great surpluses and gains to be made, but in terms of profit for the capitalist, there's simply no labour to be exploited because there's no-one knocking around up there nearby.

grow up

The same reason you make this thread over and over again.

It's not possible for us to send humans there in 20 years. Assuming we ALREADY have a million tiny micro-probes weighing less than a gram, and a city-sized grid of high powered lasers on the moon to accelerate those probes, we could expect the probes to reach Proxima Centauri in 20 years. And then we would have to wait another 20 years for their signals to get back here.

>post history

Attached: 1555307713765.png (454x520, 13K)

We don't need to go to other worlds, at least for a few million years, there's enough material in this system to make a dyson swarm to hold hundreds of trillions of people, let alone how many you can store in asteroid sized quantum computers in virtual reality if people want that. Terraforming is a huge waste of time and material, like eating the skin off an apple and leaving the rest, rotating habitats parked in various orbits are the future of mankind

>We don't need to go to other worlds, at least for a few million years,
We could go extinct any second until then. There's already been 5~ mass extinction events where 90% of living species died out. Living on multiple planets ensures that some unavoidable freak disaster occuring to Earth doesn't mean our species goes extinct forever.

>great surpluses and gains to be made
nope

Nuclear pulse can get to Proxima Centauri in 20 years, and we can do nuclear pulse now.

Yep.

Because it’s entertainment, lol. The biologist with one of the highest h-indexes has already done the math though and the probability of there being life anywhere else in the observable universe is infinitely small, so we probably won’t expand out of our own solar system since there literally is nothing new

Attached: 9DEC9490-94EC-478C-8A1F-DAD3D6059A5A.png (709x835, 89K)

And what gain is it then?

your brain on sóy-fi

The problem with nuclear pulse is there's no way to slow down quickly

Even if it's technically possible to go there in 20 years flat, you're not staying there, you'll zoom right past. If we account for deceleration it will take MUCH longer than 20 years

With the same resources it would take to make an interstellar space program, that country could conquer its neighbors, exploit their resources, and enslave their people.

Living on trillions of habitats spread throughout the system would serve the same purpose, give each one the knowledge of mankind's history and how to engineer everything and each habitat could start everything over again given enough time. If we colonized even the nearest star we're 4 years delayed knowing anything about them, if you have tech to harvest solar systems and travel to other stars you have doomsday weapons like RKKV's, we'd never want people with that tech where we can't detect them and deal with them immediately

>$1000000 question: How many light years from our sun is the nearest star?
I would have said fucking 400 light years, nothing even close to 4. I learned something today. Thanks Yea Forums.

It's literally capitalists who are funding the project that you are talking about you DIRTY NIGGER RETARD

At least if we built some kind of laser highway system or a gigantic railgun to fire ships/satellites out of near the edge of the system we could accelerate ships towards where they're going with no cost to the ship so they can use all their fuel halfway for decelerating

All we need to do is develop tachyon gates.

I really hope we're the only species that uses planetary gravitational boosts to slings shit around

Aliens would meet us lije

>You mean you FALL into planets in hopes to speed you up?!?
>Don't out know you risk falling in and burning up or worse, crashing and being marooned?
>These mad lads don't even bring proper crystolic engines to putter around space
>these barbarians fucking fall into worlds to speed around the solar system

aliens don't exist, the universe is cold empty and dead

Rome wasn't built in a day, we have to make self-sufficient colonies on other worlds before we start making gigantic habitat Megastructures

We may not even be thinking of habitat in the right way either, by the time we have such things I doubt we will have physical bodies anymore

It was 5 computers, spoken by Thomas J Watson, the CEO of IBM kek

Lmao nice, fuck OP.

Oh they almost certainly do, but I'd wager it's such a rare occurrence that they live a fuckzillion light-years away to the point where it doesn't even matter anymore

You need to get your priorities straight.
First, we need a Wild West but in space. Remove all restrictions on space travel and enterprising so that private corporations may be incentivised to invest in off-world mining operations and other things.

Unless there's an extinction level event its pretty much certain we will atleast send a probe to alpha centauri

Are you kidding? The amount of energy the sun puts out is insane, and its all just going to waste.

That is true actually, if there's no-one already there to slow you down. But you can launch nuclear bombs in front to slow you down.

Like who exactly? Elon Musk? What project?

>There will be a Byford Dolphin disaster but in space

I imagine it will be a choice, if we're a space faring species in the trillions we're almost certainly transhuman to a great number of degrees; some people would be purists and live in custom habitats that resemble amish country, others would be immortal gods living out fantasies forever in VR, some people would be furries with their minds in animals living on nature preserve habitats. Humanity will conquer it's own system to the maximum level before we would think about other stars, even the very closest is so far away we're at the very least 4 years delayed knowing anything about them, we'd be risking the kingdom of our own solar system in a state of cold war of never knowing if the other is planning/already initiated an apocalypse against the other system in a preemptive strike.

If we tied the end of a really long plank of wood to the moon, and lashed it to the earth part way up the plank, provided the plank was long enough the other end would swing round in a giant arc as the moon went round the earth. We could use that to sling shot a spaceship towards the stars at an appreciable percentage of the speed of light.
We just need to grow some really fucking big trees!

>But you can launch nuclear bombs in front to slow you down
How are you going to make those nukes go faster than the speed you're already going? More nukes?

No, just launch them. They're already going at the speed you're going, it shouldn't be much harder than just projecting them out of a cannon.

I'm not sure if it works that way, but wouldn't that just mean doubling the weightload of nukes you're carrying meaning you wouldn't go as fast to begin with

Honestly, not even memeing, that makes me think the next star is closer than I thought

Based retard

Reddit pseudo science

Not really. Nuclear bombs don't weigh much anyway, its a tonne at most. If you're already to another star system then a few extra tonnes shouldn't be too bad.

Couldn't they use a trajectory that puts the ship in orbit around, or relatively near, whatever their destination is, using the gravity of the target star system to decelerate the ship? Maybe that's just ridiculous, I dunno.

dehumanize ourselves and face to bloodshed

One light year is 9 TRILLION kilometres

who gives a fuck, we'll all be long dead before that shit happens
techology is slow as shit, by the time we die all we'll have are better computers with worse video-games

Space doesn't exist.

its literally capitalists fault we even need "funding" in the first place retard. wake up.

eddie bravo pls

yeah but in miles it's a lot less

This is why the USA is the best.

Capitalism is basically the economic component that gives us the chance to leave the planet. Unsurprisingly it is effectively turning the entire planet into metaphorical rocket fuel.

I mean shit, once we've developed a working fusion reactor, we can send those into space with basically unlimited amounts of energy and start traveling the stars, very very slowly of course.

couldve done it much faster without capitalism holding everything back

What's the point of this thread when realistically it has nothing to do with television or film?

Cringe
This

what system has capitalism repressed that would have made us more evolved than we are right now?

we could send ourselves as data to a server setup by automated cyberborgs on Alpha centuri

Got memed into watched some china film recently where they moved the earth to another solar system with hug engines burning ... rocks...
is that possible anons

Capitalism generates more wealth and technological development than any other known.

> Didn't get the message

love and world peace. 5 trillion dollars wasted on iraq war so far, and counting. expect more to be wasted soon on Iran

The data could then be downloaded into new bodies on other side

dummies, its the only one thats existed so far, so how would u even know?

thats just a meme , think about , whats wealth?

Human beings are too fragile for space travel. Our ideal legacy should be constructing a benevolent AI that can adapt and have it seed worlds throughout the Galaxy.

money's not real idiots wtf. im surprised its even lasted this long.

>the allocation of time and resources towards a project would not be necessary if we moved incentive to allocate time and resources towards that project from the lizard brain masses
Nice

We need India to discover a new Poo based method of interstellar propulsion

Superpower when?

>i cant imagine a world with no money

brainlett detected. its the inevitable future get more used to it.

Its hard to define exactly but I would say that you can measure a societies wealth by the percentage of the population that is dedicated to production of food and goods contra services and technological development.

For example when we industrialized the agricultural sector, we saw a huge drop in the price of food in terms of hours needed to provide a nutritious diet. This allowed us to take the children away from the fields and start to educate them so that they can drive technological development forward or serve to make the economic system function more efficiently in various ways. Having more doctors for example means the average person can work longer into their life and produce a greater surplus. However the amount of work needed to produce goods was still high, this is however dropping quite rapidly.

From this perspective I think we can say that capitalism is the clear winner of best economic system that we know of until this point. I'm sure we'll develop a new one once the need for human labor to produce foods and goods drops to near zero across the board and our only possible uses are as services workers or developers of new technology.

>The known universe is so incomprehensibly large that most people can't even fathom how many possible planets are out there, let alone the number of plants in our own local neighborhood.
>Only this aspie planet has carbon-based lifeforms and 90 percent of them are retarded
