Even earlier, in 1943, there was a children's book series called Homer Price that made fun of Superman in one book as "Super-Duper" (which was considered a gay slang term back then, listen to the song "In Der Fuehrer's Face"), portraying him as the star of countless live action movies. Considering that the first Superman serial didn't come out until 1948, as well as that the Homer Price books were written in 1940 but weren't published until 1943, well before Superman had even appeared on radio and the Fleischer cartoons, it means the author was quite literally bitching about nothing.

There's just something about capeshit that riles people up and gets them whining. And I'm saying this as someone who has hated pretty much every cape movie since the first Iron Man.
