It's it the TLJ of Alien?
It's it the TLJ of Alien?
Resurrection vs Covenant?
The movie is stupid, the premise is silly, and the visual style and approach to the acting is very much a relic of its time. But the body horror with the clones and hybrids is still somewhat unnerving to look at, and there are some fun and amusing action set pieces (underwater scene, chestburster scene with Leland Orser, final parts with the Queen and with the hybrid).
Coming from a director who probably shouldn't have been tasked with making an Alien movie, but ends up making the weirdest and strangely creative sequel for Alien, I think its worth appreciating. Watch the theatrical cut. The directors cut pads out the movie unnecessarily with outdated cgi transition sequences and other trivial details.
No. TLJ was shit but still made a billion and will get a sequel.
A4 literally killed the franchise. It's been nothing but shitty comic book VS shit and prequels since.
is it worth watching? I switched off Alien 3 the last time I went through the quadrology when the alien was in the prison and everyone was kinda running through air ducts. Skipped to Prometheus. Should I give A4 a try?
This is how I liked to movies:
Alien 9/10
Aliens 9/10
Alien 3 2/10
Resurrection ?/10
Prometheus 3/10
Covenant 7/10
>likes covenant over prometheus
honestly, why?
I liked Resurrection. It was a fun movie.
Its not as boring as Alien 3, but its rather dumb and schlocky. Depends if you just want to watch some dumb fun action and gross alien stuff.
We're obviously dealing with a retard. Undoubtedly that faggot that used to spam Covenant threads.
Both Covenant and Resurrection are obviously shitty flicks.
Hottest Ripley of them all. I've secretly loved this film for years even when I hear how people hate on it. It's gonna be one of those memed sci-fi lost gem films that fade away and people forget about.
The whole plot with Ripley and crew going back to Earth and discovering the devastation. The outsourcing and buyout of Weyland-Yutani by Walmart was not only hilarious but very realistic as a plot point element. The whole story itself could have extended the whole franchise into some really interesting territory. It's disappointing to know it's been 22 years and we still haven't got a new Alien film with Sigourney it...sheesh fuck off Ridley.
Okay 3/10 for Prometheus is a bit unfair, I'll give it 5/10.
I didn't like the father-daughter dynamic that much and the sudden appearance of Mr. Wayland.
The main actress was also weak all the time it was pathetic and there were no characters you could root for. Flame thrower scene was more a good laugh than shocking.
Alien movies should be about survival or grander themes like AI trying to create life, opposing humans and stuff. I liked the dark aspect in Covenant.
I never made a Covenant thread lol
A4 is a mix of the best parts of the other movies, but the final result is soulless.
It's not. In fact, is a fairly nice sci-fi flick.
It's just not an Alien movie. It has nothing to do with the rest, even the Fincher one, tonally or writing-wise.
They got a couple French guys to do the movie, and instead of delivering something similar to Scott or Cameron, they went for a Metal Hurlant inspired comedy with zany characters and cartoonish action.
But if you separate it from the Alien canon, as it's own thing, it's good. Not great, but good.
If anything, it's the Rocky IV of the Alien series.
Covenant has that gorgeous Ridley aesthetic that the other Alien directors try to imitate and that ending with Wagner at full volume.
That makes it a 6/10 at least in my book.
>Alien 3 2/10
It's better than covenant
Alien Resurrection is the first fan fiction film of the Alien franchise. It doesn't fit in at all with the others. Watch it immediately following or before the original; they are so different it's like they're not even related. I don't mind it as a bit of fan fiction fun, but no way consider it part of the actual series. So far there's been the Ripley Trilogy and that's it. Star Trek: Prometheus was the latest torpedo the franchise. That and Covenant remain to be redeemed by the next one but we'll wait and see.
You're right that Prometheus was garbage and Covenant was actually pretty entertaining.
I liked the underwater xenos...was cool imo.
This scene is Yea Forums kino
but covenant also has the bit where the not quite alium and david are doing pantomimes to each other
inexcusable
Alien vs Predator Requiem was.
The funniest part about requiem is itsonly remembered for being 90 mins of black screen and raping pregnant women.
I wonder if the exec who green lit the murdering of pregnant women and children was fired or promoted.
Resurrection atleast tried to be good, TLJ showed little to no effort, just coasting off its name
she's tried and is all for it, but one thing or another keeps putting the franchise on hold
The thing with Prometheus... I just keep revisiting it. I remember watching it and being really disappointed. But then I watched it again. And again. And again. At first watch I thought Convenant was better than Prometheus. But in the end that was solely because of Fassbender's performance. Why is Prometheus so captivating despite of its glaring flaws....
Did you miss all the predator spin offs?
This franchise is nothing more than a name to whore out and sell tickets.
Yup, and that's because Ridley refuses to let any other director do an Alien film or do any before his nihilistic "prequel" series is done.
That man was so fucking legendary before he took on Prometheus. Maybe some directors are best left alone.
I'm not talking about vs films or engineer nonsense, I'm talking about a pure alien film
Prometheus will be considered a classic.
Alien > Aliens >>>> Alien 3 >>>>>>> Resurrection
Nothing from the last 2 decades will ever be considered classic. Music and Film.
Honestly all the Alien movies make sense when you take into account the year they were made. People hate Resurrection but when you consider it came out in 1997 it was exactly the kind of movie that would have been made at that time.
The first movie being made in the late 70s makes sense with the slower pacing and tension buildup.
Aliens of course is your classic 80s movie full of badass marines and action etc.
The only movie from the franchise I couldnt get on board with was Covenant simply because it felt rushed and didnt give answers to the questions posed in Prometheus. Despite that, I am looking forward to Fassbender fucking with thousands of people on a huge ship.
I think David will simply travel to Origae-6 and make his own species there using the colonists as hosts.
Huh, i wonder how that would work though. Maybe the movie starts with the last group of colonists waking years late, only to discover an abandoned ghost town colony site with David nowhere to be seen. I dunno.
I think part of me just wants a shitload of people stuck on a ship with no way out.
>It's it
What is it?
>Alien 3 2/10
>Covenant 7/10
One of my earliest boners.
it was somewhat interesting and had a distinct style until the hybrid
did you guys forget the fucking nose
that things sadface and screams while its being sucked out of the airlock hole haunts my dreams
