>Elizabeth Debicki had originally been cast to play Christina Braithwhite in HBO‘s adaptation of “Lovecraft Country,” but we’ve learned today via Deadline that Debicki is out and Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) will be taking her place.
>The series comes from Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, Misha Green and Warner Bros Television.
>Penned by Green based on the 2016 novel by Matt Ruff, “Lovecraft Country” follows Atticus Black (Jonathan Majors) as he joins up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father. Thus begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.
based debicki getting out of that racist anti white garbage. Debicki hates jews too
I'm friends with a guy who worked on the set who said Debicki is actually a really big bitch. She would sit in her trailer listening to old Hanson songs like mmmbob and just think about bashing niggers heads in with a sledgehammer akin to John Henry. All day long you would see Debicki walk around set, no matter if she was happy or sad, and would stop midstride. She would bring an imaginary sledgehammer over her head and slam it down and go "mmmbop a bookie bapbap mmmbop" Then would just casually go about walking. He said he has never seen someone so hateful of black people in his entire life. Apparently what caused her to leave was that she actually thought she was going to kill a nigger for real. She thought it was going to be a nigger snuff film. nothing made her happier than thinking she was going to get to kill one of those raping, tax dodging, burnt skinned niggers for real. When she found out she couldn't she just left the project. My friend said as she left the lot he could still hear her singing the Hanson song. "mmmbop a bikki bop bop mmmbop a shiggt bop ba dueeee yahie yah"
The only way she would have stayed in it is if she could have killed a nigger for real. She based
Do you think Pelee knows abbout the "Niggerman" stuff?

>Jordan Peele Dropped due to monkey infestation.
Thomas Nelson
I read the book. Its a solid 8/10.
If done correctly, the series will be slapstick lovecraft kino. If done incorrectly it will be overly preachy woke BS with lovecraft monsters thrown in. So its a 50/50 shot now to be good.
The fact that Lovecraft is a racist with a cat named niggerman is literally part of the plot. Main character is a black guy who is a fan of HP Lovecraft and his dad literally tells him to stop reading it in a scene cause of it.
Lincoln Richardson
This is a good thing. Debecki needs time away from acting to focus on bulking.
Brandon Robinson
everyone itt yapping about debicki but the real matter at hand is is this gonna be /ourgirl/ Abbey Lee's big breakthrough?
>namedropping lovecraft >protag is an airhead woman >directed by nigger >produced by ((()))
they're just proving him right

>Thus begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.
There's actually an ensemble cast, but they are all black characters. She is actually a cultist and somewhat of an antagonist.
Sort of... the actual story is actually done well though. No promises about the adaptation but the mix of blacks dealing with racism AND supernatural entities ends up being fun in a lot of the stories.
Ryan Flores
Jordan Peele doing even this pale imitation of Lovecraft is not something I'm interested in.
Justin Phillips
He should just do a twilight zone episode starring himself. Basically a modern take on Shadow Over Innsmouth, except he's visiting a town full of happy white people. The twist happens at the end when he realizes he's part white!
Noah Edwards
>JJ Abrams and Jordan Peele
That's too much SJW bullshit for me to swallow.
Nathaniel Young
So I know a lot of people here are racists white men, but I actually would recommend reading the book. Its a genuinely entertaining take on some lovecraft/weird horror sci-fi genres. The racial stuff is indeed part of the plot but its honestly very surface level, and really only an excuse for some gonzo weird-horror stuff to happen.
Ryder Diaz
It's not even an imitation, it's a deconstruction. He wants to take the piss out of Lovecraft for being a racist.
David Bell
No. Maybe 10 years ago, but not with the political clusterfuck that is left-wing politics. I'm not watching something that will inevitably be preachy garbage, so am I reading something that got published by the left-ng publishing houses that blacklist everyone to the right of Hillary Clinton. I don't care how great it is. I'm sick and tired of only one perspective falsely dominating pop-culture because the leftists don't think they should have to share the country with the rest of us.
Kevin Jackson
>it will be overly preachy woke BS Have you seen his version of the Twilight Zone? There's no chance it will be anything else.
Noah Hernandez
Oh a 'deconstruction'--no thanks. I'm sick of these people using Lovecraft and pissing all over him. Peele can lick my ass. I'm tired of this left-wing garbage.
Adam Mitchell
The book is more like honoring Lovecraft and saying "yeah he was racist but he made really great fiction and had awesome horror ideas" and making Lovecraft stories centered on a black family as a way to sort of defend the strength of Lovecraft's fiction itself. There's literally black fans of Lovecraft in the story arguing with other black characters on why his stories are worth reading.
Eh okay but you're missing out on a pretty entertaining modern take on some of the best tropes in the genre.
No I haven't seen it. I thought Get Out was okay, didn't like Us, but the new twilight doesn't look good at all.
Eli Garcia
Left is trashy. Right is elegant!!!FACT!!!
Josiah Williams
His Twilight Zone was a pretty clear indication of how heavily political his stuff is going to be from here on out. There's just no way he can do anything that deals with racism without hitting you over the head with a sledgehammer or wokeness. Every single episode was woke garbage. Get Out was clearly a fluke, his only half-decent idea. When Liberals learn to share popular culture and social media, I'll give this kind of thing a chance. But so long as their waging this odd cold civil war against the rest of us, I'm not giving anything they do a fair hearing.
Jordan Campbell
Well thats a shame. I'm a liberal but I also find a lot of the woke stuff to be pandering and cringey at times. There's a way to explore racism in clear and honest matter-of-fact ways without seeming preachy and moralizing. Something that I liked abou Lovecraft Country is that racism was part of the plot, as in the main characters are dealing with both supernatural entities along with racism of the time, yet the book wasn't preachy or anti-white or "woke". It just happened to be part of the plot, and was often used to just create more stressful scenarios for the characters which increased the horror. It's like when you make the protagonists of your horror movies kids so that no one believes them when they say a monster is in the woods. By making them black they have extra difficulties on top of lovecraftian horrors. It was a cool mix. But I can see it getting butchered in adaptation.

How do we help big sis Debicki's career, bros?
Wyatt Hall
god damnit, I was hoping she'd be a regular on a good TV show again but it looks like movies only from now on
