HERESY

I fucking love this shit. Simple, direct, and dumbass normies and critics alike still didn't get it. On top of what it reveals about Kryptonian culture, it's a veiled WH40K reference with Krypton serving as a stand-in for the humans of Warhammer, complete with their tech worship and declining civilization. They even included a Space Marine, for Christ's sake.

Imagine being such a brainlet that you think anything in the 40k setting is original. Many such cases!

wow that's the most autistic far reaching head canon i have see today.

good job.

Where did I say it was original? Zod's response not only indicates his own view on Kryptonian "science," but is a veiled reference to the Horus Heresy.

Fucking awesome.

>Look at this. We could have built a new Krypton in this squalor, but you chose the humans over us. I exist only to protect Krypton. That is the sole purpose for which I was born. And every action I take, no matter how violent or how cruel, is for the greater good of my people. And now... I have no people. My soul, that is what you have taken from me!

I loved the Krytonian designs, they looked properly alien.

probably because they're ripping off Giger's space jockey

Pfffffft AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

>we had slices, Zod...orange slices

>the stupid sign gag
I fucking love it

Why didn't they just live in a giant spaceship or look for another planet? They have the technology clearly.

Why didn't Zod terraform Venus?

Why did they need to terraform Earth at all, why not just live here with super-powers?

He wanted to kill Superman.

Why terraform anything at all? Clark survived on Earth as a baby all the way to adulthood and Zod was able to adjust ton the atmosphere in a matter of days so clearly changing the planet wasn't necessary for Kryptonian survival.

Attached: superman man of steel-2.webm (960x540, 2.97M)

welp I'm gonna watch this again tonight. What could have been..

Does seem sort of dumb when you think his chief goal is preventing Kryptonian extinction and what could be more extinction-proof than a planet of people with Superman's abilities?

Why would he want them reduced to squishy normies who can't survive little things like their planet collapsing around them?

The only thing that annoys me is that Zod was so stubborn even though they explained that he was genetically engineered and trained to be ultra patriotic. He could have agreed to share Earth with the humans. They'd be like gods anyway.

because of the estrogen in our water supply and the bpa and the chems introduced by chemtrails you stupid fuck

Faora was underused as fuck.

Attached: man of steel-5.webm (720x404, 1.16M)

For some reason he wanted the genetic stuff stored in Superman to spam more Kryptonian babies.
But nothing stops Jor-El and Kara to fuck and pop a baby, so they weren't infertile or something, maybe he just didn't want to have sex.

What the fuck was his problem?

(and by stupid fuck i don't mean you are a stupid fuck it was a joke post, do not be hurt)

You'll love this then. Man Of Steel might be one of the best DCU movies. Theres so much detail and care in it.

>And he'll be the main character in the biggest crock of shit you ever saw, Zod

>free to forge his own destiny
sending him to earth to be their savior
god bless

This is probably one of my favourite super hero films.
Also because the stakes actually felt kind of high.
Like it was Superman versus a bunch of other super people with the same powers.

He has two (2) female Kryptonians left alive, you're not rebuilding a species with that naturally.

Beautiful scene. Shannon was the perfect choice for this role. I liked his final exchange with Jor-El, too.

>Jor-El: You're talking about genocide.
>Zod: Yes. And I'm arguing its merits with a ghost.
>Jor-El: We're both ghosts, Zod. Can't you see that? The Krypton you're clinging onto is gone!
>Zod:[Ordering the computer]Ship, have you managed to quarantine this invasive intelligence?
>Computer: I have.
>Jor-El: You'll fail.
>Zod[to computer]: Then prepare to terminate it. I'm tired of this debate.
>Jor-El: Silencing me won't change anything. My son is twice the man you were. He will finish what we started. I can promise you that.
>Zod: Tell me. You have Jor-El's memories. His conscience. Can you experience his pain? I will harvest the Codex from your son'scorpse, and I will rebuild Kryptonatop his bones.

I liked that it was used with purpose, to drive home how alien they are both as a species as well as a culture.

Kryptonian tech has a heavy biological component. To rebuild Krypton, Zod needed something that neither Venus or Mars has, but Earth possesses in abundance - biomass.

>A foundation has to be built on something. Even your father acknowledged that.

Terraforming Earth kills all the native life. It's the most brutally efficient means to Zod's ultimate end - a new Krypton. This depiction is equal parts Zod and another Kryptonian character - the Eradicator.

For me, it's Wallis Day.

because they wanted to kill all the humans

they needed clark and he was on earth

Being a dad.

Basically a first draft...could have used a rewrite. still better than anything in phase-1 marvel besides Iron Man 1. I Guess they were in a rush to get the movie out.

Thanks, I haven't seen that.

Does Krypton base itself on what Man of Steel showed of Krypton or just make up something new? I never watched it but if it shows shit about the various Guilds and stuff like that I'd be interested.

I loved the biological look to all their stuff.

It borrows heavily. It even includes the Codex as a plot point. It also uses other aspects from the film as well as a lot of things from the comics lore, like how Krypton had their own clone debate in their past. It's not great, but it's got Barristan the based as Superman's great-grandfather.

Cool, might give it a look.

Show of force. Demoralizes the enemy. She even lets them fire a few shots before whooping their asses. Would have been nice if they had an anti-materiel rifle that would knock them down or make them loose balance.

Who was she demoralizing? She killed them all.

Attached: superman-4.webm (960x800, 621K)

Supes saved some others and there was also the knife colonel guy. They were probably looking at her killing their squad mates.

This is going to sound like a strange criticism, but I feel like it tries to rely too much on melodrama and courtly intrigue á la GoT instead of using the one human character(Adam Strange) to explore the differences between Kryptonians and us.

A smarter story would include an aspect that showed Kryptonian martial arts masters and "holy men" being able to focus their "chi" to achieve lesser versions of what we see Kryptonians do on Earth. That "chi" would be their aura.

He raised another man's son.
Not even once.

it was implied that Zod had caught a case of The Gay whilst on earth and thus could not father children with the 2 kryptohotties still loyal to him. he is also infertile (canonical). Zod was basically an incel khv fag and that's why he went on a rampage.

I'll never not be impressed by this.

K I N O

Am I the only one who thinks with the exception of the El's the Kryptonians were dicks? Like their whole society was just dicks? (Zod was cool af though). Completely unlikeable people.

Attached: 1493761614543.jpg (250x220, 6K)

She's not trying too hard though, killing them at that speed doesn't even leave her out of breath and she's taking them down hand-to-hand, she's not even drawn her knife let alone those plasma rifle things. It's more a display of superiority than anything, she just stands there letting them know how helpless they are, same reason she slows right down to make the commander sweat when he draws a knife on her.

The Guild Warriors sound like they've been bred to essentially be sociopaths, without empathy or morality beyond service to their species. She's like a cat toying with her prey.

I miss the days of the "stop, invincible son" memes.

>pic isn't called 5'11" vs 6'0"

I think that was intentional, doesn't Kal El say something along the lines that the Kryptonians had their chance and blew it? That'd seem a bit harsh if they were a gentle, wise and benevolent people who brought nothing but joy to the universe, you'd sort of expect him to try for a compromise in that scenario.

But since they were all egotistical dicks, the audience is right there with him when he goes "fuck 'em".

Best capeshit villain speech of the decade.

Welcome to the totalitarian state where the ones in charge control most aspects of you life including how many children you have and their prospective future.

They look at off-program procreation as heretical. There's that.

You're not alone. That was sort of the point. Jor recognized that in spite of their technological achievements, they were a failure as a civilization. They had fallen into worship of their own tech and surrendered their fate up to an AI-controlled birthing program. They let it dictate their lives. It wasn't just Krypton as a physical place that needed to end, it was the *idea* of it. Zod wanted to re-establish it.

No, that's literally how they're presented, who'd look at what is essentially Turbo China: In Space and decide that looks like a nice race of people?

Agreed. It's fucking chilling. He's calmly explaining, as if to a child, why he's absolutely going to wreck everything - by hand - unless Clark kills him. To Zod, we just don't live in squalor, we *are* squalor.

they were literally conquerors

He was basically a father to a cuck.

Not really, they set up a few small colonies and then abandoned them to do some serious, civilisation-wide naval gazing.

One aspect of their colonies that I liked was that they appeared to be set up in barren, inhospitable places. I don't know if that was intended to convey that the past Kryptonians practiced their own version of the Prime Directive, but I like to think they did. It plays back into the running subtext about clashing cultures.

>zod: if you destroy this ship, you destroy krypton!
>Supes: krypton had it's chance

I hate being that guy but I'm gonna be that guy. You compare this thread to a Marvel thread and there's no contest. Marvel is fluff. DC is art.

Marvel has better visual effects compared to DC.

Attached: superman man of steel04.webm (1000x424, 1.93M)

Hit and miss, really. I personally don't think the MCU ever again touched the quality of the first Iron Man. Maybe it's just the increasingly fantastic settings, but it started feeling somehow less "real" after phase 2.

>Like their whole society was just dicks?
Literally

disagree. both have some terrible cgi sometimes but overall DC is better

Ffffuuuuuuck those super speed dashes feel so good, why can't we get more of this

because normies and the absolute shitshow that was the justice league

B-B-But and the civilians?

Embarrassing

Thank you for being that guy. As an old-school comics fan, I completely agree. I appreciate that DC actually imbues their settings with narrative and philosophical weight similar to how they're depicted in the comics. Take Krypton for example. In the Golden Age, Krypton was a technological utopia. That reflected people's sentiments about science and technology at the time. Starting with Byrne's revamp, it started reflecting more of our growing fears about it. Man of Steel brings that to fruition, giving us a picture of a failed civilization, worshipping(however unconsciously) the tech they created. There's a metaphor in that as old as written language.

great arguments

I know what you mean. I absolutely love that entire sequence.

I want her to crush me with her thighs

>sideboob
fuck

Because then it wouldn’t be Krypton. His goal was to recreate Kryptonian society the way it was, which does not include people with superpowers.

If you love these people so much... Then you can watch them DIE!!!

I wish people weren't such sheep and forged their own opinions about this movie. Despite the flaws I really enjoyed it for qhat it was and tried to be.

>If you love these humans so much, then you can mourn them.

Great line. It also drives the point home that Zod feels nothing for us st all. Were it not for Kal's attachment to us, we would literally never even enter into his thinking. We're fodder to him. In the end, we're just a means of getting what Zod wants. At first, that's resurrecting Krypton. When that's rendered impossible, we become a means of forcing Clark to give him the only thing left he can hope for - a good death.

>we could've gotten a prequel movie with zod and jor el
>but now hope's all gone

There's a lot of satisfaction in getting something new out of these stories every time I revisit them. The layers of storytelling and attention to detail that most never notice is really something.

I couldn’t agree more. This has the depth of theme and lore that comics fans deserve.

Its just a goddamn shame the studio had to meddle with BvS, then put a sour on everyone, then fucked with JL even more, and Snyder then throwing up his hands with stress plus his daughter's death, and then "let me quip some more" Whedon stepping in and shitting over literally everything.

If Justice League hadn't been tampered with, it would have been the best superhero trilogy of all time. Hopefully the Snyder Cut sees the light of day.

Eh, I wouldn't have gone that far. It would need more of a rewrite still.
