Think about it, if a movie cost millions to make, and let's say 10,000,000 people pirate the bluray. Blu-rays really only gross $10 or so, minusing out manufacturing overhead, shipping, handling and retailer take. That's $100,000,000 that would be lost in potential sales. Big boy number, right there, I tell you what. However, that "loss" divided among the employees of say, Disney. Disney has 201k employees, and that's roughly equal to $500 from each employee.

The problem with the hollywood propaganda is, vastly more people buy merch than actually pirate it. If you get a movie that succeeds in China, the lost revenue from piracy would be considered a statistical outlier. If the movie is successful enough, that pirated number is who gives a fuck tier. It also relies on the lower level employees getting incredibly bitchy. CEOs and 1%ers? That 500 is literally nothing. Shit, they could EASILY cover that 500 loss for each employee and still live comfortably. For you and I? That $500 is a lot. So the propaganda relies on the pissed off low levels to be very anti-piracy, since they lose out on a decent chunk of change.

The CEOs laugh their ass off at the wagies who will push their anti-piracy bullshit for them. They'll laugh at the shareholders too, who read about the losses for piracy and freak out. So the chief officers will shit out some halfassed anti-piracy measure to appease those dumbfucks too. The top guys will laugh at the middle management cultists as well, since they'll keep the lower levels in line and angry about piracy.
