Rarely see japanese movies apart from the really big productions discussed here. Looking at the the general fondness of this site for japanese culture I always thought it odd. Does Yea Forums dislike jap kino for some reason?
Feel free to discuss any movies of asian origin I guess.

Japanese cinema is packed with classics, but Yea Forums never talks about classics. Modern Japanese cinema is absolutely fucking terrible due to the unwarranted influence of casting agencies, etc. Shitty celebrities who can't act are forced into roles they can't handle, and the standard of writing is just as poor.

Couple of my more recent favorites are Fish Story and The Clone Returns Home. It's actually pretty hard to find decent quality torrents of lesser known jap movies.

I love Jap movies, but there's no point discussing them on Yea Forums because the only ones people here watch are anime adaptations.

It's true that there's a lot of low budget shit produced, but many of it is direct to DVD and won't ever be shown in a cinema. There's also the fact that the japanese almost produce exclusively for the domestic market, so there are a lot of cultural aspects that will come off as odd to foreigners, without even considering the niche market. Apart from the well known and renowned classics I still think there are a lot of interesting flicks if you don't mind to filter out all the crap. If you like underground cinema, arthouse or exploitation there's also a lot of stuff 70s and 80s.
True, but take a look at AvistaZ if you aren't already on it. Registration is open right now
I guess, do you know any chan or similar site where you can discuss them? I know theres some forums but they are usually full of circlejerks or are only for mainstream shit.

>cultural aspects that will come off as odd to foreigners

This is a common excuse, but it's fraudulent. The most culturally specific Japanese cinema is the stuff that is revered globally. "Bad acting" isn't cultural. The Japanese entertainment industry is in a really bad place in terms of artistry, you have to dig deep to find stuff of value.

Japanese movies are shit. Fuck off

Youre shit

Jap "acting" is cringey as fuck and literally all they make is live action adaptations of anime and manga

I watched Seven Samurai and even the acting there was terrible. How can people defend that movie?

Cinematography

This desu, apart from the classics. And no one talk about any classic movies around here.

because no one talks about films on Yea Forums

Tomie is worth a watch, at least the first one.

google Koreeda you plebean

Japanese television and film outside the realm of animation is fucking awful my guy.

They made a lot of good horror movies over the years.

>my guy.
Surefire way to invalidate any thought or feeling you have, gay urban zoomer.

Wow you can pull out so much from 2 words. You are clearly not his guy and he is clearly gay and urban.

>Wow
Sarcasm is the realm of faggots and women, zoomer. Have some self respect.

Jap movies are fucking horrible these days, if you want to get into east-asian cinema then watch Korean films

Korean cinema sucks and has no cultural identity of its own. They made a handful of Western pandering movies that heavily aped Hollywood productions like ten years ago, so people who would never watch a foreign film otherwise praise them for it.

Can you name any? Not as recent but I can recommend Noroi if you like found footage stuff, I've also seen it discussed here from time to time.
