This is true, except for evil Coop's intro and music. That was one of the best things out of any season.

The impression I got is BOB influences Leland, but doesn't actually have to control him. Leland has some trauma and psychological issues that make him vulnerable to BOB in the first place, and he just needs a little nudge in order to do what BOB wants him to do. Otherwise, BOB is just along for the ride, feasting on the garmonbozia Leland produces.
I've been informed that I'm a brainlet, though, and that BOB controlled Leland's arms and legs whenever he wanted to do something naughty.

In the Final Dossier, Mark Frost confirms Leo is killed by gunshot wounds in the cabin. Albert (who is writing this part of the dossier) comments that he suspects Earl killed him but, but it's heavily implied that Dopple Coop did him in.

It's was part of Lynch's "fuck you" to the producers when he came back and set things straight. The same with Nadine's strong nympho arc coming to an abrupt end and her becoming mental again.
