>Ewan McGregor stars as Danny Torrance, a man with psychic powers who struggles with alcoholism.
kino

>tfw the film is gonna be some soulless hipster interpretation of Kubrick's style
>it'll hit all the marks the same way aspartame does with sugar

SCOTTISH COCKSUCKER

They'll bring back that fucking carpet for a gimmicky callback.

The whole hotel was allegedly rebuilt for the shoot. Even some boiler room or something like that.

keen-eyed people may notice the subtle reference to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining

Nice trips. The director is Mike Flanagan. What a downgrade.

have an upvote, /u/DannerTheManner

The book was absolute ass. The villains didn't even come off as a threat at any point in the story and were complete pushovers getting raped by a little girl.

Attached: sleep.jpg (600x537, 55K)

the hotel burned down in the shining book, and it's an important part of the second one that it doesn't exist anymore

>it's been months and months so i guess i can say that i worked on this for a few weeks and confirm that it's a direct sequel. they built extensive sets from the overlook. the colorado lounge, the red bathroom, the hallway with the girls, the elevator hallway, the entrance to the maze, the gold room, their apartment, the bathroom
Some person claimed this. Maybe flashbacks? I have no idea, i haven't read the book.

I actually stole it from Birth.Death.Movies. but way to out yourself as being from reddit dipshit

Attached: Birth Movies Death on Twitter.png (640x771, 400K)

must be flashbacks, i've read the book. it doesn't even have any flashback scenes to the overlook though, it's just mentioned. the place where it was is important though, but there's bungalows and a lodge built there

>using twitter
You're worse than that other guy.

Book was pretty good, hope they don't fuck it up.

I was thinking the same thing. It's been awhile since I read it, but I don't remember any major flashbacks or anything.

I read this book in a psych ward but i barely remember it.
besides the fact that it was really bad and had something to do with a lady who wore a hat (?)

Peels Rotcod

maybe you should go back to the psych ward and improve your reading skills

Trailer

It won't make a difference. Yea Forums hates King because he said bad things about their daddy.

Will there be a nigger?

This book was fucking bad

remaking scenes from kubrick's shining even though the book doesn't have any of that shit, they're just trying to cash in on the sequel thing. i know people who liked the book without having read shining, they should have gone for something similar in standalone qualities. it's going to suck

calm down lady, I like Stephen King a lot, I just thought Doctor Sleep was boring and the characters were lame and forgettable.
sorry if you liked it, I promise we can still be bestest friends foreverest, if you just stop acting like an asshole all the time.

also we didn’t work on my reading skills in the psych ward, that’s not the type of thing they do there.
I bet you feel pretty silly right now for thinking something so preposterous, you fool haha I’m having a good laugh over her just thinking about it haha

it doesn't feel anything like the Shining too.

>Book was pretty good
it really wasnt though danny was a solid character with a good story but the horror side of it was just just generic nu-king trash with a couple nice call backs, the vampire villains in tophats were fucking dumb
our boy ewan will make it great though

Does McGregor have a good role? He looked good in the trailer.

So, in the trailer, is the wall him talking to past Danny?
I know that was always King's conceit.

Hold up hold up
So is this supposed to be a sequel to Kubrik's Shining? So the Overlook is still standing, the "nigger cook" whatever the fuck his name is, is fucking dead with an axe to the chest?

Or is it, like the book, a follow on from King's Shining?
Where the hotel blew up, and the cook lived to semi-raise Danny in the ways of the force?

No, the girl is his niece because his father was having an affair prior to taking the job at the hotel, and the shining thing is hereditary, so the girl has even greater shining powers than him and shit. and she's being hunted by these evil shining vampires who consume people who have the shining, so she is making contact to danny via that board

man that's a major spoiler and i forgot the spoiler thing. sorry

he actually does goes from being
an alcoholic coke head to working in a retirement home using shining to help old folks pass on sadly the rest of the book, the girl, and the baddies are very shit

This sounds pretty bad desu.

They're probably gonna be pussies and keep it vauge either way so as not to offend King-fags or Kubrick-fags.

Yeah it's nothing great, but the book is actually pretty comfy. Not even really horror, just a comfy sequel. The "villains" are heavily humanized and it's more about outcasts finding a place and friends, like danny being a cokehead alcoholic drifter who does the most dirty shit and is haunted by his mental powers, but ends up in a small town finding a place in life and a good use for his shining. Pretty much the same with the villains, just that they torture and eat children to survive

from the trailer it looks like they're gonna merge the two in the book its just a sequel to the first book cause jacks redemption is a big part of it but i have no idea what they're gonna do with the overlook not being blown up in film cannon same with dick holleran being dead

9/11 opening scene will be kino at least

What did you not like about the kid? The baddies were shit but it was a kind of novel idea. Better than the Salem's lot badass vampires turning to homo aods giving ones in the gunslinger books

this
Thanks for spoiler and saving me reading this shit.
I tried to read it after just finishing the shining a few years ago but couldn't because of king fatigue.
Kinda glad I didn't bother now.
Looked like it was shaping up to be a real yawnfest of a read desu senpai.

There really isn't a way to keep it vague. Not without completely changing the story. In which case, you might as well just make it a movie sequel instead of a book sequel.

that's fucking awful

WB fucks it up once again

Looks like garbage, lol.

>as not to offend King-fags
Do you actually believe they give a fuck? They completely fucked their chance to put his magnum opus on the big screen.

Attached: 9c05d2787b3175f5e88fba4b7ddcfa32.jpg (913x1222, 242K)

I haven't read the book but are the Shining Vampires working for The Crimson King and his breakers or are they acting independently?

there are no explicit ties to the Dark Tower mythos, at least not in the book. they're actually portrayed as kind of sad and pathetic and not really a threat at all, the book is primarily nostalgic and mournful in tone, like most of the recent King books, not meant to be scary at all but more about wrestling with regret.

KUBRICK OR NO SHOW

no connection to that universe

Independent.
It sort of feels like people with the shining are the same people who survived the plague in "the stand"

it was less that i didn't like her but more i hated the whole twist about who she was which above user spoiled just felt so contrived king is pretty hit or miss for me though i didn't actually like salems lot or gunslinger either

>hey completely fucked their chance to put his magnum opus on the big screen.
and king, the absolute cuckold, clapped on seal like and encouraged the shittification of his self-proclaimed "greatest work"
that man has no pride whatsoever
disgusting

pls don’t remind me of the dark tower. I used to love the books so much but the movie destroyed the franchise so badly to the point that I haven’t even thought about the books since seeing it.

man, whoever he is, that guy looks so much like Clint Eastwood and Stephen Kings father. they should totally cast him as Roland Deschain, he would fit frickin PERFECTLY
like take all of my money right now and make this friggin happen!!

same fashion sense as daddy, pottery!!!

>blood elevator
I clapped.

It's lies, all lies.

>brief shot of the kid in the baseball uniform

Damn I'm surprised they didn't cut that part.

Since they're using the movie clips and music, do you think they'll bring back Jack Nicholson to be Jack Torrance in the climax?

And what's that about?

Child being tortured to death

Jack has trouble remembering lines, i haven't read the book so i don't know what's the ending about, but if it's some monologue then i think no. He dropped Toni Erdmann because of this.

Great, i might watch it after all.

He's one of the children that the psychic group kills. His death is extremely gruesome and depressing.

Actually completely ignore my "I'm surprised they didn't cut it," since it's been years since I read the book and I just remembered how important of a character he technically is in terms of affecting the plot.

Danny literally defeats the Hat at the end by having the high ground.

Pottery

No lines, I don't think. Or maybe just something like 'Danny boy.'

How can he have forgotten the face of his father, if he never met him?

looks souless af, whos this qt tho

Attached: muh.png (347x533, 285K)

Snakebite Andi.

It would certainly be great if he was in the film.

in the book he was more like a force ghost at the end, the 1980 version of him
so probably not

DUDE Shining callbacks LMAO

Fuck off King. You can’t have it both ways.

Shame. I will still watch this because of Ewan.

>tfw the True Knot will never kidnap you and keep you as a steam cow, torturing you for hours to feed on you while keeping you soothed with kind behavior in between agonizing torture sessions until you're forced to develop stockholm syndrome to cope with the agony

it hurts, fellas

>Mike Flanagan
No reason to get my hopes up about this being good then

Will Jacks ghost be in it?

Unless they change the story, yes.

DOOOD! Did you see all the references to The Shining? Fucking epic man. Can't wait to see it.

Nicolson tho?

I read the book and remember nothing about it apart from some bullshit about alcoholism

I kek’d but I’m still mad and I never won’t be mad about what they did to the Dark Tower.
it wasn’t even the blackwashing necessarily (I mean it is, but not just that, he’s obviously a good actor and of course diversity is our strength and whatnot) but they just butchered the story and tried to squeeze the mythos of an entire series into one stand-alone (I fucking hope at least) movie. I will never forgive them for doing that. and as a result I’ve become completely jaded and opposed to Hollywood as a matter of principle.
they didn’t need to do that to the Gunslinger. there are literally 7 books (plus stories and comics) worth of material to work with. they chose to use the absolute bare minimum of story they could get away with. they chose arguably the lamest part of that entire body of work to adapt. they made it boring and generic when it’s set in a very interesting universe.
it just seemed like they weren’t even trying to make it good, like they gave up while they were making it and said “fuck it, it’s too late. we’ll just have it be shit and I guess we can just apologize after it’s done, if we need to.”
I wouldn’t accept the apology anyway and now I go out of my way to not watch Hollywood movies and shit on them when discussing them even though I haven’t seen whatever it is being discussed.

>it's another "stephen king writes a leading character that's a transparent metaphor for himself" book

Attached: 486528187216.jpg (512x384, 48K)

all I remember from the book was the giant hedge sculpture animals that would move around.
I guess it’s because computer graphics weren’t good enough to make it work for the movie so they ditched it, even though that would’ve been really cool to see.
it might not have worked for the way Kubrick wanted to do it, but i remember thinking it was pretty crazy when I read it.

Well how am I supposed to know.

>Danny sticks his head through the “here’s Johnny” hole
OMG I CLAPPED

it looks like it has potential at least, as long as they don’t lean too heavily on muh shining nostalgia (which they will, of course)

it still hurts bros...
we could've have the greatest horror-epic on screen but Sony's sole existence is to just ruin all my favourite franchises...

Attached: bat.jpg (1470x1009, 137K)

yeah, anyone who's read the book will know that this film will be utter dogshit ( and nothing like the shining).

King hasn't touched alcohol or drugs since the 80s, I think he just wanted to write an alcoholic

Am I being retarded or is this some joke about "Redrum" being a callback?

Is The Shining worth reading? Need something light to read next because I'm currently on the autistic nonsense that is Infinite Jest.

The Shining is a weird atmospheric thriller, it's cozy for a light read but still spooky.

They did make a miniseries that had animated hedge sculptures, but it was ass.
