Also I agree that the plot gets more and more retarded, cherry on top was Father John Hughes, the head of the whole undercover mission, having Thomas' boy kidnapped and then staying completely alone with him without a single armed guard despite it was his only source of power over him.
I guess the saving grace of the show is the acting (especially Tommy and Arthur) and the cinematography

my old man grew up in small heath during the 70's and he had never heard of the peaky blinders until the show came out. Historically, they were one of many street gangs that roamed the birmingham slums. they were not a organised criminal outfit. my dad told me about the time the krays tried to expand into the birmingham and got sent back to london with their tails between the legs by the fewtrell mob.
