Let's discuss godzilla. Avoided Yea Forums until I saw it. The characters and writing was atrocious. But every time all the monsters were fighting I was on the verge of crying. I watched all of the movies as a kid, even before I could read. So it was emotional for me to see them again. 5-6/10

I completely understand why it was critically panned but I loved it and greedily ate up all its fanservice and little nods anyway, it's the first time in a very long time that I felt genuine awe in the theatre.
Mothra was so beautiful and pure.

The theater was empty except for me and some family, so I had no problem letting my hype loose when that "bidibidibidibidi!" came. Also shouting the kaiju name's when they were introduced, since my senpai is a bunch of normies and would ask me who they were when they popped up

The plot was better than the first one, even if it was just "humans over populated and need a culling, no not me personally but other humans not the ones I love."
The characters were still meh. I kept asking why are the listening to this guy? (Mark Russell)
Just because his wife was involved I get that he was supposed to have helped develop the sound wave device (orca?) but he never uses it once, never comes up with a way to block it and it's pretty obvious Dr. Ishiro was far more qualified, it struck me as odd he'd keep asking for Mark's advice, till he sacrifices himself and they were pretty much setting up Mark to run the team next movie.
Plot aside, because really who gives a fuck.
The fights were engaging, cgi was good, I loved when Godzilla bit one of ghidorah's head off in the first fight. The pulsing nukes in the last fight were badass. Thoroughly enjoyed the fights and can't wait to see the inevitable Kong Vs Godzilla.

I was pissed that I paid 9 bucks to see it. I felt like it was a bate and switch. I fell for the general consensus and thought it was mostly cool CGI monster fights but 80% of the movie was just the most cringe human development and plot. I feel like they shouldnt have hired so many actors and put more into the CGI. I swear the quality of some of the graphical parts of the movie were underdone and borderline shoddy and blurry.
I should have just watched shin godzilla again/ 10

Here's my thoughts on the monster designs. Godzilla is prefect, cute but still scary. Like she should be. Rodan looks like his creepy ass old design, like a fucked up vulture. Just wish he was more red. In this one he's almost black, looks quite bland. Mothra was adorable and gross and translated well to the new detailed design. The colors were right and the reveal of her wings was beautiful, almost made me cry. Gidora looked too much like a serpent, I didn't really like how the heads looked. Also should have been more gold to really fill that king look.
