Finished season 1

Sure the actors are fine, sets and costumes are fine, overall atmosphere is comfy... but it's just EMPTY.
Most story lines are hollow and uninteresting, especially those involving (I know, have sex), the widow, the whores and the orphan. Overall it's an ok show, but not only I don't understand the hype, I don't find any reason to watch season 2.

have sex

then don't

Get this hooplehead outta here.

You are just a cocksucker

cock sucker

watch the first two episodes of season 2 at least, they act as a proper finale to season 1.

COCKSUCKER

DO NOT watch the movie if you already feel this way about the series. prove me wrong kids

Will do!

yeah the movie would be totally meaningless without a strong affinity for the show

I loved the series, but the movie felt like some forced Christmas special that they brought back just for nostalgiafags

agreed although i loved it and was left in tears at the end.

OP here. We all have different tastes, but could you expand on what made you love this show so much?

I really wanted to like the movie, but it felt like it was written by millenials who were tasked to watch the series for the first time, a year ago, then try replicate it for the special.

The writing was so much better in the series, but the movie felt forced and ended up being a caricature of itself

just formed a strong connection to the characters, especially al, but it took some effort on my part to really get into it. i've watched it 4 times now, giving up by season 3 the first two times, but that 3rd re-watch completely brought me into the world.
it's about the characters and forming a bond with them, the plot is kinda meandering drivel basically.

i can totally see that and honestly, if I hadn't done a 4th re-watch right before the movie I'd probably felt the same way. it's far from perfect, and is basically the end of season 3 repeated but since i was so engrossed with the characters it really hit home emotionally for me.

i fear if i watch the movie again it'll all fall apart so i'm keeping it at one watch with a good feeling about it all.

I feel the same way with OZ and Hannibal

Seconding this

i love the series but the movie was shit, terrible dialog, ZERO HOOPLEHEADS (honesty are you kidding me), zero fun, zero humor, bringing back fucking hearst for no reason and then not doing a thing with him, just ending the plot in exactly the same way as the final season
legit terrible, cant believe they bothered going forward with that horrible script, feels like it was crowdsourced from a bunch of different reddit posts

out of interest, what do you mean by zero hoopleheads? the show was about the main characters not the general population of deadwood

oh you mean't the word itself wasn't used. it was only used a handful of times in the entire show

Hearst did come back in real life, as I recall reading. And there was humour. I think the movie is more how S3 should have ended if it weren't so rushed. Yeah, you could critcise it for not doing anything more "original" but, to me, it felt hugely satisfying. It placed the characters more firmly where they should have been.

No peaches for this motherfuckin cocksucker.

Wow, what a fucking Reddit opinion. Sorry there's not enough jokes and action for ya there, zoomer.

gotta say regarding the movie i would like to see what they would've done with no hearst. that would've been a lot more interesting but at the same could've ended up worse than what we got.

SAN FRANCISCO COCK SUCKA

I'm with you, OP. It's the perfect example of a show trying to be a western when it isn't. The dialogue is hilariously over the top and unbelievable and sometimes just lame. The actors aren't of the time that the show is set and you can just see right through it. It's tough to buy. Not to mention:

>FUCKIN FUCKIN
>COCKSUCKER
>COCKSUCKIN

I wanted to like it, but I just don't.

For people who consider Hearst's ending as just the end of season 3 repeated, you are wrong. The entire dynamic between Deadwood (as a town) and Hearst has completely changed. Back in season 3 Hearst was a gold tycoon and Deadwood was a lawless town. Now Hearst is a senator and Deadwood is officially annexed as part of the US. And they killed his people, they cockblocked his purchase of Utter's lot, and they beat him in the street, and since everyone in Deadwood is now against him (including fucking EB of all people) there is nothing he can do about it. Sure back in S3 he could call in an army of mercs, chop off fingers and have hookers killed, but now any action he takes is an action by the US against a US town and its citizenry (which is why he called in external guys to hit Utter). With him unable to declare open war and the town completely united against him, he'd either have to invest a fuckton of money into Deadwood (jeopardising his larger goals, he's got much bigger shit going on in other territories) and risk his enemies using this (or Deadwood's allies coming in, Seth Bullock was friends with Teddy Roosevelt) or tuck his tail between his legs and leave. It's a petty victory, Deadwood basically wins because the town is so far beneath Hearst it's not worth his trouble, but the town still won. They really needed more time to expand on everything properly.

This is a great explanation of it all. Thank you.

Then watch something else. Also objectively you are the gay man.

all television and movies are for retards

You'd have complained that there was no resolution to the Hurst storyline from season 3.

The movie was great considering it had just under 2 hours. Yeah, I wish we could have got an entire season, but given that we didn't I think the movie did about as much as it could

Are you the user who wrote the great explanation of the movie when it first came out? About how it fitted in with the progress of the camp to a proper community, and community v individuals?

No.

Finally watched the series and loved it especially Al and EB's goofy ass. On second rewatch I noticed that the actor that plays Jack McCall is also the weird Mr. W that works for Hearst. The movie was goofy for the 1st 30 minutes and felt like a cast reunion show but the rest of the movie i felt was good but not as good as the show. I didn't like seeing Al in the movie. His intensity was kinda sidelined maybe due to old age or that the town was older and he couldn't control it as much

SWEDGIN.
HANG DAI.
COCKSUCKA.
