Digimon was a good anime. It had a good cast, a beginning, middle and an end to each season, the characters had their own flaws and their backgrounds dealing with things like social anxiety and divorce was explored, it had an alice-in-wonderland feeling to it, the Digimon themselves were highly unique and had personality. You're just being too harsh.

Digimon is a heartfelt character-drama adventure-saga with some monster fights and digivolving sprinkled throughout so the tamagochi company would be happy.

well that's my generation, which I have to admit did have over-corporatized garbage, it didn't get bad until 2006-2007. Cartoon network hadn't gone insane and movies were still pretty wholesome (see: Bicentennial man)
