The writing took an extremely obvious nosedive, Giles's character was a sad shell of what he was in the beginning, and the final battle made no sense whatsoever. It took Buffy ten full minutes to beat those super-vampires or whatever the first time one appeared, and now they can take them out with two blows? Total bullshit.

The Trio was absolutely terrible. Just as bad as The Potentials. Some of the worst episodes of Buffy ever with Doublemeat Palace and Riley's return. Spuffy was fucking insulting. Muh rape. Depressing as fuck, SMG hair looks like shit and she becomes anorexic, and Dawn is so fucking annoying and useless all of S6.

S7 had some really good stand alone episodes with Conversations with Dead People, Lies My Parents Told Me. Faith return is really good. Caleb is good. Angel return is good. Finale is good. Fuck the Potentials but S7 is better solely for no Trio.

LOL Giles did what he always did: Was a pompous asshole that thought he knew more than everyone else.

You mean like the Master who got steamrolled in a minute? Or the Mayor? Or Glory?

Not the same thing at all, those were complicated and well-planned-out battles and the characters struggled long enough for the outcomes of the fights to be convincing. It literally doesn't make any sense that the supervamps magically went from being SUPER SUPER strong vampires, who took Buffy (who's been fighting regular vamps her entire life) all her strength to beat just a couple weeks ago, to being the same strength as regular vampires. Took all the suspense out of the battle and was just completely disappointing.
You're just wrong, Giles was one of the coolest and best characters for the whole series and then when S7 rolled around it's like they forgot how to write for him. Terrible.
The Trio did suck, probably the worst villains. Total walking cliches with no charisma and nothing remotely interesting about them and I hated them so much. But I like the Dark Willow arc and I like Spuffy (for the way it redeems Spike later), so I like S6 slightly more than S7.

Tara sucked and Dark willow was 3 years too late, she should've happened in season 3, Faith should've joined the mayor because no one was listening to her about magic making willow evil.

Season 4 is the worst imo. It was not only the first really bad season but has almost no good episodes. I always skip most of it on rewatch.

The Master literally went from super telekinesis vamp to wilting flower in one minute. The mayor can't take a bomb blast even though it took a volcano before. Glory suddenly is susceptible to a hammer that is "suddenly" super powerful.

The Initiative and Riley suck in Season 4. Everything else is comfy and campy. Plus Spike becomes a regular in S4 which is a major plus.

I hate Riley so goddamn much he's the least interesting character in the entire show. Worse than Tara or Dawn.

The writing for Riley was terrible but even if it was good Marc Blucas is an absolutely horrible actor and he fucking should've been fired after three episodes.

Rarely to do I see such patrician opinions about BTVS in one of these threads. Hannigan gets credit for this though, she said she was blown away by Trachtenberg's acting talent in the special features of the DVDs. And if only Trachtenberg were older she would have been perfect to carry the Dark Willow storyline.
