The episode where they made it snow was fucking kino. Same with the ending (although this is entirely thanks to Gunbuster).

Anime endings are in the breach of being bad because their source materials are always open and not finished yet, because they are based at 90% on a light novel or manga.
Original Anime for TV or Movies/OVAs have better endings usually.

It has a few great moments, but overall yes it is pretty garbage tier. Gunbuster was appealing because it started out as hard sci-fi that episode by episode kept escalating upward in scale and outlandishness. Diebuster started outlandish and just meandered around from there.
