I was born in 91. My youth was spent at the peak of pokemon mania. Yugioh. etc. I liked anime because it was weird and diffrent. You didnt see shit like this in western cartoons. Particularly stuff from the late 80s and early 90s'. Like that ultra violent and sexual stuff.

Don't forget that 90% of anime is written on a middle school level where every character has to directly say to the audience how they feel and what they're doing at any given moment because anime creators have no sense of subtlety or visual storytelling. That's why autists are drawn to it, they can follow the characters because the development is literally spelled out for them unlike some live action show where people aren't narrating their own lives every second.
