Is Babel better than The Tree of Life?
I still haven't seen babel
More like 4/10.
is that the movie where she convinces her kids that they’re allergic to sun light or something?
No. It's not good.
Yes.
Pure kino
Tree of Life is the type of movie kids who want to be special pick
>you to dumb too understand it, it's actually a masterpiece and not just a pile of basic allegories and cool images
Nigga we all understand it, and it's shit
it's an interesting movie and shows unpixelated Japanese schoolgirl snatch. I liked it, it gave me an emotional response
Yikes
Unironically kino of the highest order. Patrician as fuck.
>t's actually a masterpiece and not just a pile of basic allegories and cool images
Why can't it be both? The way I think of it is that most movies are equivalent to novels, but Tree of Life is poetry. As in, it's not a narrative, it's vignettes of emotion and beauty. Why does this make it bad? It's using the audiovisual medium in a way that's different than you're used to, but that doesn't make it bad any more than a poem is automatically worse than a novel. They're just different.
Patrician unfiltered
Yes. Valley of the Bees and Adelheid are also great.
I agree it's beauty but in terms of film quality it's literally nothing, it's more of a videoclip than a movie
Same applies to 2001
>it's more of a videoclip than a movie
A videoclip IS a movie. Why do you equate "movie" with "narrative"? Why did you ignore my post about novels versus poetry?
NIgga I need quips and explosions
Movie is a type of narrative, is a langauge. Tv shows and videoclips are audiovisual media but they aren't movies
Also, a movie needs a narrative. There are experimental audiovisual materials that fall into the "non-narrative documentary" that aren't films
Fuck yeah
Best movie ever made. I'll die on this hill
This movie sucks ass, brainlet arthouse
Great film, not my favourite one but fantastic one for sure.
Michael Caine's character made me stop watching this, especially the interactions between him and the main character. Their whole dialogue exchange in that first 10 or so minutes of the film was shitty, not only was his character annoying but I specifically remember a shoddily done exposition dump during a scene where they broth drove in a car.
Is the letterboxing hardcoded?
My favorite part was the gay intercourse
Bruh
Agreed, I saw a lot of praise heaped on it and was a little disappointed, to be fair it's still really good, and has great cinematography, but it has some of the same drawbacks as snowpiercer in my opinion
>ctrl + f
>pic related
>zero results
Cursed thread
Nice flick
Das Boot, that entire sequence of the u boat rising from the bottom of the strait of Gibraltar and the engines starting is my favourite scene of all time
That scene with Yves Montand hallucinating.
Based /ourguy/ autist movie
commie propaganda and commie production value
Thoughts on a hidden life getting a positive rotten tomatoes score?
I haven't seen song to song yet but imo critics really lost the plot a bit with to the wonder and knight of cups which are two of his best films
Based, I plug Edward Yang's filmography every chance I get
Still my number one after all these years. Not even a weeb.
The one and only 10/10 movie
love this so much. reminds me of when i had pneumonia and i almost died.
I don't know if this is bait but either way link?
>can I watch this on my ultrawide gaming monitor
No
It means that the film has more of coherent plot and narrative than his latest films. It probably feels tighter and more planned out.
Yang is pretty great. Shame he died so young.
>reminds me of when i had pneumonia and i almost died.
>The Failed Assassination of user by the Coward Pneumonia
Are you ready for the final cut?
Unlike Malick and Tarkovsky, this is actually boring.
Heartly kek
Malick and Tarr have nothing in common. Tarkovsky and Tarr have also almost nothing in common, only their use of long takes but both of them use it in completely different way.
don't care what you say this will always be my rainy day go-to
you accidentally put a 1 in front of the 0.
Not that user but would that help if I told you the original title of the book was The Melancholy of Resistance? Since it so perfectly encapsulates the general mood that have fallen to the town, I think that should have been kept as title.
The the beginning is the text-book definition of mesmerizing imho. Some people must have expected similar scenes going forward instead of Tarr's methodical, process-oriented story-telling whilst the world slowly falls apart around us.
Have you read the book?
Not yet (currently reading another Krasznahorkai) but I know the 2nd chapter / part of the book is called Werckmeister Harmonies, if that's what you were aiming at.
Good one, i like A City of Sadness, The Puppetmaster and Flowers of Shanghai more than this one.
No, i just wanted to ask if it's good. Werckmeister Harmonies is one of my favourites so i wondered whether i should bother with the book.
Krasznahorkai is similarly brilliant in literature as Tarr with films, so reading his works is always a safe bet. Especially that the translator of "The Melancholy of Resistance" is that George Szirtes who spent 4 years translating "Satangtango" - which yielded him and the author The Man Booker Award in 2015.
>called seven samurai
>picture only has six
Dude just go outside and spend time with your faimlly, why the fuck do you need this garbage flick for?
How can it be "propaganda" when Klimov the director literally had to fight for 8 years straight in order to release it because the soviet government didn't want it to be released under any circumstance?
This is mainly because the majority of the "germans" in the film are ukrainian collaborators (like it actually happened), as evident by that entire under the bridge scene. Literally soviets killing soviets.
It's an anti-war film, there is not even one hint of why would anyone join the soviet army/partisans also, nothing but bad things happen as soon as he joins them, even before he encounters any enemy at all.
Atleast watch the film before spewing absolute ignorant bullshit about it
Who is faimlly?
Alright thanks, i will check them out.
Can't think of a movie better than this. Shame the second one was a run of the mill action film
Being there is near pure kino
Al's best performance, and possibly one of the best movies which features some pro LGBTQ messages
Well, what did you expect when Villenueve was not directing?
With that in mind you should watch some of his other movies, and get hyped for the two dune movies by him.
>Can't think of a movie better than this.
Really?
I can watch it indefinitely
Patrician taste
Comfy
Kino
Tree of Life sucks.
here are some good movies:
Dersu Uzala
Sunset Boulevard
Repo Man
Conan the Barbarian
The Treasure of Sierra Madre
Casablanca
Sorcerer
Ran
The Tale of Zatoichi
Touch of Evil
The Return (2003)
Andrei Rublev
Night of the Hunter
Raiders of the Lost Ark (unironically, as it's the most entertaining adventure film I've ever seen, perfection in story telling)
Ghost in the Shell (1995)
The Lion in Winter
zatoichi is shit compared to yojimbo, senjuro desu.
based and redpilled
it's very different, good on it's own, I didn't try to add too many Kurosawa films on the list, I could add 10 more desu.
that said, zatoichi's character get's with each film in the series more and more interesting and emotionally deep.
This
shit thread full of arthouse fags
Good fucking taste man but Tree of Life is still a 10/10
plot baby
That's because the real samurai was you all along.
What, you've never been 17 year old user?
70s are the most powerful modern kino decade
The seventh one is taking the picture
I have, 2 years ago. It wasn't even the best film released that year.
>replying to a wehraboo
Only Angels Have Wings
To Have And Have Not
Sullivan's Travels
McCabe and Mrs Miller
my fucking nigga
>mfw the limo scene
it’s under appreciated in the sense that people just view it as a cop film, when it’s so much more. also has a killer score
