I completely agree with you OP. Everyone told me the human parts are shit and overpower this by a lot but it wasn't like that at all. So many monster moments, the action scenes were not overshadowed by the humans at all, and I liked that they were actually involved in a way that progresses the story instead of just being there.

I went in specifically looking for cutaways to human scenes last night and wound up disliking it. If you go in waiting the movie to just focus on the monster fights and not cut away then the movie will disappoint you. I personally felt the arctic and burning godzilla scenes should have been longer but besides that liked it.

The problem was that the family drama plot was terrible and most of the fights were filmed with a Parkinson’s patient holding the camera. Poor quality movie in most aspects

The main characters all had ridiculous plot armor and showing them escaping death in impossible situations made their scenes very boring and pointless. If some important character unexpectedly got killed by one of the kaijus or even some debris, helicopter falling down, whatever, maybe there would be some feeling of "shit got real".
The woman scientist plan was retarded. If instead while researching they inadvertedly had awaken the kaijus would be better.
MBB could have been mortally wound and then healed by Mothra, developing a bond - there, much better development. In the movie why should we care about the humans? If there were some more scenes of the displaced masses and the social chaos probably it would have a nice effect.
I really wanted to like this movie, the battles between kaijus were good, but the overall experience was meh... I went out from the theater feeling the huge wasted potential.

The problem with G14 wasn't how it cut away from the monsters to the humans, as every Godzilla movie does that. Heck the end battle to Ghidorah The Three-Headed Monster was all about cutting between the monsters and the humans.
The problem was that G14 didn't just cut away from the monster action, those scenes literally ended and the movie cut to different scenes entirely. Doing it once was forgivable but doing it twice made the audience feel shortchanged.
I've always liked the Godzilla series but I'm not sure if I want to spend money on watching this in theaters when the response even from hardcore fans at TohoKingdom has been so negative, it feels more like a rental for me.

I'm actually halfway done with my edit where it's literally all the monster screen time and I've got under 8mins. IIRC 2014 had 14mins of Godzilla, and it was wasted save for the nuke breath down the MUTO's throat that people enjoyed and sort of forgave the rest of the movie for because of it. This movie has one good scene with Rodan and an overpowered anime Godzilla at the end. Gotta say I'm a pretty big Godzilla fan, but Pacific Rim definitely fucks this shit-ass movie in the butthole. I'm glad I watched it at home instead of the theater, because I literally yelled at all the background action and begged my TV to tell me why I should care about the mom's death. Fuck you for being a gay and fuck this trash flick.
