other than the main theme and the Stannis theme the GOT ost is pretty forgettable

He's not that great. Game of Thrones' score is nowhere near as good as Lost or BSG.

People rave about him, but in my estimation he's just ok. He's better than what you normally hear in American TV shows, which is so bland that nobody even pays attention to it, but that doesn't make him great.

wieners floppy wieners?

For me, its Bear McCreary

He did the soundtrack for System Shock 2.

He did a shit job with Warcraft, the only good theme I heard was the Stormwind one and it was made by Blizzard.

Hes pretty great, but pretty fuckin overrated. Seriously, hiw many times can you play Rains of Castemere?

>Tyrion scene
Rains
>Cersei scene
Rains
>Jaime scene
Rains
>Tywin scene
Rains
>Joffrey scene
Rains
>scene happening to a Lannister
Rains
>scenes where Lannisters are doing the happening
Rains

i loved the bells soundtrack

This is about as non-descript as soundtrack music gets.

Kino taste

I doubt he decides on music direction.

iron man 1 was kino, shame he didn't come back for 2

youtube.com/watch?v=I9PhfUsFvj0

From my knowledge the composer makes the music after they watch a scene. It would have been nice to see even some different type of leitmotif at the very least.

>Tyrion would be Rains but only with violins signifying his connected strings
>Jaime would be Rains but with drums because he is ruled by his heart
>Tywins rains would be played by piano because he had the keys to the kingdom
>Cersei version of Rains is played by brass because shes loud as fuck

Then when they interact with eachother make the Rains play together.

He was a good match for an HBO miniseries. When GoT got big and everyone expected more, he just wasn't up to the job. and are right. The motifs were mostly forgettable and limited the dramatic potential of the show. The last episode was particularly bad where he just remixed the main theme in several parts. It works because the main theme, and many of his other pieces, are simple ostinato works that are amenable to reworking. Judging from GoT, though, he is a B tier composer at best. In fifty years, film music concerts will still be playing John Williams and Morricone but I doubt people will even remember Djiwadi.

I don't blame the producers for not getting the best. I don't even know if there are any top tier composers in their prime left.

Meanwhile in children's shows in Japan:

Vangelis>Zimmer>Shore>Poledouris

How the fuck can you even say such dumb shit like that. Noone can compare to Zimmer.

By music direction I mean when to use music and what music to use.

I guess I didnt explain enough.

Most composers have music direction. They will watch the movie or show, and sometimes even make music on the fly. Composition is often the very last thing to be done in the production process. For example Hanz Zimmer was the composer for Dark Knight and music director. He literally watched the film and used his keyboard at the same time feeling it out.

That being said directors will often always have final say.

If they're re-using the same track seven times then surely that wasn't the composer's decision.

Starks, Lannisters, Greyjoys', Robert's themes are memorable.

He’s good at meme composing, as in his songs easily become memetic even within the work itself. So he plays off of three or so pieces of his work that became iconic to good effect. Honestly the perfect composer for in universe meme songs like Rains of Castamere

Why the fuck did he do the score for that slenderman movie?

Maybe, but I think he was out of his depth and had to play it safe.

I can only somewhat recall the Lannister's theme whereas I can recall nearly all the themes in Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, the main themes to Robocop, Jurassic Park, Forrest Gump, The Rock, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, The Mission, Love Story, Independence Day, The Hunt for Red October, The Rocketeer, King of Kings, Gone with the Wind, etc., even though I haven't heard those pieces in many years whereas it's been a month since GoT ended?

"What Are You Going to Do When You're Not Saving the World" on the Live in Prague video is worth more than the entire MCU

(just ignore the guitarist and his gay hair and stupid face)

System Shock 1 had the superior soundtrack

fuck you shit taste faggot
youtube.com/watch?v=AWBZDYiqXKE

Not him but to me this is just decent. But it's probably hard to make music under the American system because how much time can the composer really have when he can only start composing after editing?

A more elaborate song with a similar vibe from a game:

lolno. At least Zimmer reinvents himself every other couple of movies or so, when a project is really interesting to him and/or a good director is attached.
This guy's highlights still involve mashing single piano keys for dramatic effect.

Holly shit, i love precure ost's

So no one will mention Prison Break

The first 30 seconds are only really memorable because you hear them in every episode, and the rest is just whatever.

i tried to think of a single tv show soundtrack that i actually remember (besides the main themes of course) and battlestar galactica was the only one i could think of

BSG is also for me one of the very few American TV soundtracks I can remember.

It's a sea of sub-mediocrity punctuated by licensed songs.

Honestly Breaking Bad and Walking Dead come to mind.

The governors theme in the Walking Dead is pretty fucking great.

yeah but each version of rains is different, cersei and jaime have the best versions and the most somber death version

such a wasted track, 6:20 till the end is pure kino, pure wasted kino

This

This is very underwhelming.

I dont know. I think it works really well.

I always imagined the pulsing to be teh blood in the Governors head. The rush he gets from hurting people, the rush he get before beheading Hershel. Its also the first time they use synthsized sound in the show, which I would say matches with the chaninging of scope. No more are the zombies a threat. Its the governor.

I have no reason to doubt that it works and that there are intellectual justifications for it, but as a piece of music it's underwhelming.

all the music in the wd is, unlike got they are all meant to be serviceable to the scene at best
