He had the story, with all the details, planned out from the start. With other shows, at best you have some rough ideas about where they might go. It's great except for season 5, which is sub-par for obvious reasons. If the show wasn't cancelled after 4, it would've been the literal perfection.

you are confused as hell. The captain had to drop out after the first season, but he was brought back to tie off his story arc. The final season was a bit of a tack on, cause a lot of the plot was crammed into season 4 cause they were cancelled. But then season 5 was renewed late and so he had to rework his cut plot lines to make it work. Season 5 was a drop in quality, but the Londo stuff was fucking stellar

reading this trilogy i was similarly impressed with how the author was able to juggle so many different plot points and characters and wrap it all up, just like how jms was. the plot itself doesn't have much in common with b5 but i'd recommend this to anyone looking for a massive and and nicely wrapped up sci fi story. it takes a bit to get going but power through the book's start and you'll love it.
