Was Live Aid really that big of a TV event?
Was Live Aid really that big of a TV event?
i dunno lol
yes and all the money went to african warlords, not even joking
Nah, that was more the 'We are the World' money. With Live Aid they actually stopped the famine in Ethiopia causing the natives to celebrate, breed like rabbits and triple the population in the space of only a few years leading to a way bigger famine several years later.
It actually was Live Aid. There was an expose about it a few years after.
It was. I’m 40 remember it at school and all the fundraising we did to end poverty forever.
Ethiopia pop was 20mill and starving Now it’s 80mill and starving. So yeah... I think 20% of the money raised just went to warlords to move the aid through their turf.
Yeah. I'm old as fuck and I remember my older sister watching it. Everyone watched it and talked about it. I think the London side of it got a lot more attention, though.
I mean, imagine a concert hosted by Jack Nicholson featuring like every huge band at the time and a botched Led Zeppelin reunion and no one really ever cared about really even noticed any of that shit.
>a botched Led Zeppelin reunion
Recently watched the footage of this for the first time and good lord Jimmy Page really lost his shit during the 80's.
Yep
>He discovered it was not doing good, but, horrifically, unimaginably, the exact opposite. The Ethiopian dictator, Mengistu, until then deadlocked in the war, was using the money the west gave him to buy sophisticated weapons from the Russians, and was now able to efficiently and viciously crush the opposition. Ethiopia, then the third poorest country in the world, suddenly had the largest, best equipped army on the African continent.
